Café Tacvba leads the nominations with six; Juanes and Gustavo Santaolalla garnered five nods each; Andrés Calamaro, Kany García and Julieta Venegas each received four nominations; 2008 Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Gloria Estefan, Victor Manuelle, Soraya Moraes, Ximena Sariñana, and Joan Sebastian are among those who earned three nods apiece. And a contingent of long-established artists and emerging music makers — including Pepe Aguilar, Maria Bethânia, Andrea Bocelli, Tego Calderón, Daddy Yankee, Plácido Domingo, Jose Feliciano, Vicente Fernández, Flex, Gilberto Gil, Alejandra Guzmán, Los Tigres Del Norte, Gian Marco, Manu Chao, Sergio Mendes, Molotov, Ednita Nazario, Laura Pausini, Maria Rita, Olga Tañón, Tito El Bambino, Caetano Veloso, and Wisin y Yandel — each earned nominations. On the red carpet, St. Jude patients rubbed elbows with some of the brightest stars from the Latin music and entertainment industry who came to support Daisy Fuentes, celebrity chair, and her fight against childhood cancer. More than 550 guests were treated to live performances by Luis Fonsi, Jeremías and Valeria Gastaldi. During the night's entertainment, Emilio Estefan took to the stage alongside Victor Manuelle for an unforgettable impromptu performance. Among the other celebrity guests who came to support St. Jude were Candela Ferro, Khotan Fernandez, Fanny Lu, Ana María Canseco, Lili Estefan, Génesis Rodríguez, María Celeste Arrarás and philanthropist Adrienne Arsht.

"It was truly wonderful to see the Hispanic community of South Florida come together to support St. Jude," said John P. Moses, Chief Executive Officer for ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude. "Thanks to the supporters and sponsors of this gala, St. Jude is able to provide hope for sick children and their families from all over the world."

The money raised from this event will help St. Jude continue its groundbreaking research and lifesaving care for children from across the country and around the world who are battling cancer and other deadly diseases. Two other special guests for the evening were St. Jude patients Lucas Solberg and Stephan Boehme Gutierrez, who shared their story of survival with guests. The gala also included a cocktail reception and silent auction, which included a shopping spree at Saks Fifth Avenue and dinner for 10 with artist Romero Britto.

Victor Manuelle will be honored with the ASCAP Golden Note Award, which is presented to songwriters, composers, and artists who have achieved extraordinary career milestones, and Black Guayaba will receive the ASCAP Vanguard Award in recognition of their impact, as new and developing musical artists, on shaping the future of their musical genre and the future of music.

Victor Manuelle has amassed significant achievements as a singer and songwriter and continues to be a familiar voice to Latin Music fans ever since his first album was released in 1993. Since then, he has produced chart-toping albums with substantial radio hits every single year. In March 2004, his album "Travesía," produced by Emilio Esfefan, went to #1 on the Latin Billboard charts. In 2005, he released two live albums: "Victor Manuelle En Vivo Desde El Carnegie Hall," recorded at Carnegie Hall, and "Dos Soneros...Una Historia" (Two Soneros...One Story), from his historical collaboration with Gilberto Santarosa, recorded live at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in Puerto Rico. In 2007, he released his DVD "En Vivo Desde El Madison Square Garden," and under his own record label, Kiyavi, his first Christmas album "Una Navidad a Mi Estilo" (Christmas My Style), which became an instant classic of new compositions of traditional Puerto Rican music. Victor Manuelle has thirteen musical productions to his credit, has achieved several #1 radio hits of his own authorship and has sold over two million albums.

Victor Manuelle joins an elite list of ASCAP members who have been honored with the ASCAP Golden Note Award, including Garth Brooks, Jose Feliciano, Quincy Jones, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Tom Petty, Joan Sebastian and Stevie Wonder, among others.

The members of Grammy Award-winning rock band Black Guayaba are the first Latin music artists to be recognized with the ASCAP Vanguard Award. Other notable recipients include The All-American Rejects, The Beastie Boys, Beck and Bjork, among others.

In a short amount of time, Black Guayaba -- formed by Gustavo González (vocalist), Javier Morales (guitar), Carlos Ortíz (bass), Carlos Colón (keyboards) and Gabriel Calero (drums) -- has earned a solid fan base and has been recognized for their unique style and genre-affecting sound. They originally began playing at local pubs and private events before preparing original material for their first album. They released "Lo Demás es Plástico" in 2005, which was produced by Bob St. John, who had previously worked with Ricky Martin, Duran Duran and Collective Soul, among others. The album spawned several hit singles, such as "Lejos," "Atrapado," and "Despacio." It was that success which gave them the opportunity of being the opening act for bands Enanitos Verdes and Journey during their concerts in Puerto Rico. They had their first concert at the Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Center in March 2006, the same year they were nominated for a Latin Grammy and a Grammy. In 2007, the band released their second album titled, "No Hay Espacio," featuring the single "Sin Tu Amor." In February 2008 they won their first Grammy in the category of Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album.

ASCAP's Latin Music Awards is one of the most attended and celebrated events in the Latin entertainment community. The magazine also recognizes singers Juan Luis Guerra and Victor Manuelle for their big year in music, while TV personality Jackie Guerrido and reggaeton artist Don Omar are named the “couple of the year.” “People may think I have it all,” Don Omar tells the magazine. “But I was really looking for romantic stability… and I was searching for that person who would complement me,” he adds. Guerrido shares how they handle a long distance relationship, since she is based in Miami and Don Omar resides in New York. “Since I’m off Saturdays and Sundays, I travel to where he is… New York or anywhere else,” she says. “It’s not about the hours, but the quality time we spend together.”

(MMG) will commemorate ten years of teaching music to inner city youth with a benefit concert that will unite two generations with one goal: promoting free music education. Eight-time Grammy winner Eddie Palmieri will join forces with one of the Latin music world's young stars, singer Victor Manuelle, at 8 PM on December 1, 2006 at Manhattan Center's Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, on Eighth Avenue and 34th Street. "Two Generations" will benefit MMG's educational programs headed by Executive Director, Dr. Luis Mojica. For 10 years, MMG has struggled to provide music education in many of NYC's public schools, preparing students for a musical education and for admission to prestigious music programs. MMG's students have been able to excel in their musical skills and in their academic performance, as well. "Our students have excelled in music and in their other studies and can be expected to continue to succeed in both areas," said Mojica. MMG has served over 5000 students, tutored 400 for admission to specialized music schools and prepared hundreds for professional music careers. In addition to its instructional component, the MMG Orchestra, led by Academy Award Nominee, Ray Santos, has also presented live concerts as methods of raising funds and awareness. Past concerts include: Ӣ the Multicultural Music Encounters, a five part concert highlighting Jewish, African American, Latin, Chinese and Middle Eastern musical traditions, Ӣ a Tribute to Charlie Palmieri in 2004 at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, where Latin music and Jazz stars integrated their classic sounds with the 30-piece symphonic MMG Orchestra and Ӣ "Listen Here! 50 Years of Eddie Palmieri!" in conjunction with Aaron Davis Hall, celebrating Eddie Palmieri's 50 years of musical excellence. Mr. Palmieri has been the Honorary Chairman of MMG since 2004. Since being formed in 1996, MMG has received many commendations for its efforts towards quality music education and for its work toward racial harmony and cultural diversity. In 1999, MMG was recognized by President Clinton's "Initiative on Race" as an organization with "Promising Practices for Racial Reconciliation." In 2002, the Civil Rights Coalition for the 21st Century granted MMG "Promising Program" recognition for its efforts in promoting multicultural understanding and world peace.
