Pan American Bank (Los Angeles) today announced that it has entered the world of social media and Web 2.0 through the launch of a blog, Facebook page and Twitter account. Pan American Bank’s social media entry enables consumers to share their banking experiences, offer and read reviews and comments, and learn more about Pan American Bank's current initiatives.

"The Bank's marketing strategy includes making Pan American Bank more accessible through new media channels that include a blog, Facebook page and Twitter account. As social media use continues to rise among our target customers, it makes sense that we supplement our customers’ experience through the use of social media," said Pan American Bank President and CEO Jesse Torres. "As a bank we have a responsibility to meet the changing needs of our customers, including adopting new media in a manner that enhances our customers' overall experience with the Bank.

“The use of social media is about more than just marketing. Social media is the perfect tool for managing the Bank’s reputation and identifying issues that may be circulating. Through social media Pan American Bank can manage customer concerns and gain control of them as they develop rather than after they have gained momentum and taken on a life of their own. Social media also allows us to proactively monitor conversations that involve the Bank in an effort to identify new features, products and services that our customers need.”

Pan American Bank's Facebook page can be found at http://bit.ly/pab-facebook. The Bank’s blog is found at http://PanAmericanBank.blogspot.com. Pan American Bank can be followed on Twitter as @PanAmericanBank.

Established in 1964, Pan American Bank is California’s oldest Latino-owned bank. Headquartered in East Los Angeles, Pan American Bank serves the needs of the Latino communities in Los Angeles and Santa Ana. Founded by former U.S. Treasurer Romana Acosta Banuelos, the Bank has stayed true to its mission of transforming and empowering Latino communities through banking relationships built on trust, service, respect, communication, and guidance.

On October 1rst, the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (www.GAHCC.org) is excited to have launched what may be the first ever Social Media Ambassador Program established anywhere in the USA.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) October 4, 2009 -- The Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (www.GAHCC.org) is excited to have launched what may be the first ever Social Media Ambassador Program established anywhere in the USA. The program will be launched with eight Social Media Ambassadors who will help promote GAHCC community initiatives via popular social media outlets.

In the past year, Social Media has been adopted at astronomical rates with new terms such as tweets, followers, LinkedIn, Facebook, and fans now commonly discussed around the family dinner table. GAHCC recognizes the fact that, from major corporations like Wal-Mart to the average Austin professional, keeping in touch with long lost friends is now using Social Media. The new Social Media Ambassador Program intends to create plenty of buzz across the web on behalf of GAHCC's worthy efforts in the local community.

So who are these GAHCC Social Media Ambassadors? They are all professionals who actively use Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter daily and have chosen to support the chamber as volunteers to "spread the word" about all the various activities that the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is involved with to educate, enhance, and engage the local community.

Program Chairs are Abel C. Ruiz and Elizabeth Quintanilla. Other Social Media Ambassadors for the GAHCC are Eduardo Contreras, Scott Ingram, Mario Perez, Maura Thomas, Marion Sanchez, and Armando Rayo.

Collectively, the group represents various industries and interest groups including community involvement, entrepreneurship, technology, real estate, and more.

And now a brief description on each ambassador (in 140 characters or less and their twitter accounts included):

Abel C. Ruiz (@RCSAustin): CEO of RCS-Austin, which is a full-service social media company. We meet our goals when you meet yours.

Elizabeth Quintanilla (@equintanilla): Not just your Average ATX Girl and Private Consultant focusing on Product Mgmt and interests in business, tech, food, Austin, and things 2.0

Eduardo Contreras (@ALCON_DTS): President of ALCON DTS, delivering professional services in computers, networking, telephony and cabling for small to medium businesses.

Scott Ingram (@ScottIngram): CEO & Founder of NetworkInAustin.com, the networking hub of Central Texas. Entrepreneur, Father, Speaker, Blogger, Cyclist and more.

Mario Perez: Creative Marketing Director for RamzyDezigns.com, which uses modern marketing methods that all started from his passion in media art.

Marion Sanchez (@marion3sanchez): Multi-Faceted Public Relations (day time job), Salsa Instructor (night time job), mom (forever my job). Writer, Dreamer, Ideaneer, Believer, Social Media Addict.

Armando Rayo (@elmundodemando): I'm a nonprofit guy with a Si Se Puede attitude! I do community engagement, Hispanic engagement, social media & tacos at tacojournalism.com

"NASA astronaut Jose Hernandez, set to fly aboard space shuttle Discovery in August, is providing insights about his training on Twitter in both English and Spanish. It will be the agency's first bilingual Twitter.

Hernandez, who considers Stockton, Calif., his hometown, grew up in a migrant farming family, travelling each year between Mexico and California. He did not learn English until the age of 12.

Hernandez, whose Twitter account is astro_jose, can be followed at:

"I was inspired to pursue a dream to one day work in space while listening to the radio news about space exploration while working in the fields of northern California," Hernandez said. "I hope to spread that excitement about space, science and engineering and inspire others to follow their dreams by sharing my activities and interacting with my followers on Twitter."

Selected as an astronaut by NASA in May 2004, Hernandez will make his first spaceflight on the STS-128 shuttle mission that will continue assembly of the International Space Station. During the mission, he will oversee the transfer of supplies and equipment between the shuttle and station, assist with robotics operations and serve as a flight engineer in the shuttle cockpit during launch and landing. It will be the first shuttle mission to feature two Latino astronauts. Danny Olivas, who also is of Mexican descent, is among Hernandez's six crewmates.
