"Terra, a leading internet company and original digital content producer with a primary focus on the US Hispanic experience, today launched its 12-step revolution to a new Terra.com. Dubbed the Atom Project, this yearlong initiative comprises new, cutting-edge components that will be introduced one at a time to the portal's 60 million users on the seventh day of every month. Today, the first phase of Terra's renovations hits the homepage and main page of each channel. Among the innovations that will transform the way consumers access both editorial content and user-generated content on multiple platforms include third generation social networking tools, fresh layouts and unprecedented content integration.

"Atom is the seed for the portal of the future. $10 million was invested in the program's development, which involved the participation of 400 Terra employees and approximately 300 experts from the design and Internet industries," said Fernando Madeira, general director of Terra Latin America. "The entire project is based on creating the best experience for users, through the multiplatform offering of content and social tools. Every seventh of the month will be a day of innovation for the portal and its users."

The new Terra is designed to increase personalization, interactivity and accessibility. For example, an improved search function will enhance access to desired content; users will be able to move seamlessly between channels and subchannels; and it will be possible to simultaneously view, send and discuss a video, photo or article in a single click. The Atom Project also extends to mobile formats for Smartphones, including the iPhone, allowing for rich media and high-impact advertising.

In addition to the groundbreaking technology, original content will remain a top priority for Terra. In January, Terra will bring exclusive coverage of the inauguration, the Oscars, the World Social Forum, a special on the twentieth anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, the Dakar Rally and the Libertadores Cup. Also in January, the online Terra Magazine will introduce articles from leading New York Times columnists Umberto Eco, Mikhail Gorbachev and Thomas Friedman.

"Terra (Terra.com), the leading Internet company in Latin America with a presence in 18 countries, including the United States, is counting down to the January 7, 2009 debut of its Atom Project with a one-month rollout campaign. The Atom Project will evolve Terra's platform to fit the needs of contemporary Internet users, introducing its audience of 60 million to a new interactive component on the seventh day of every month throughout 2009. With the Atom Project, Terra will gather in a single place the most relevant professional and amateur content in a way that is totally transparent for Internet users. Previews of the Atom Project are now live at www.terra.com.

The campaign leading up to the launch of the Atom Project features seven elements, including multimedia advertisements, a one-minute introductory video and other teasers. The initiative is designed to ignite curiosity and create expectations throughout the 18 countries where Terra has a presence, including the United States and Latin America.

The Atom Project places Terra in the third generation of digital media. "We are building a new internet experience," said Fernando Madeira, general director of Terra Latin America. "Terra will become the natural destination to find out what is happening around the planet, anywhere people are. It's a new way to see the world."

About The Atom Project
With an investment of over $10 million and a focus on user experience, the Atom Project was developed in partnership with Razor Fish, a US-based company. On the seventh day of each month in 2009, a new cutting-edge component of the Atom Project will be presented. Components include tools for multimedia collaboration and interaction, all designed to strengthen the exchange of content generated by users and Terra. The resulting platform will allow for the integration and contextualization of high-impact rich media on the portal's homepage and its many channels, videos on Terra Shopping and even ad-server tools for cell phones, including the iPhone and smartphones.

Terra's record-breaking coverage of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing was a preliminary step in the Atom Project, changing the way people watch sports in the US, Latin America, Brazil and elsewhere. Audience numbers hit a record 22,756 million and 39 million videos were watched, 30 percent of which were live (versus the Internet average of 10 percent). User participation was also unprecedented with more than 100,000 contributions and 20,000 posts published on Terra's interactive channel, Fanzone.

About Terra Latin America
Terra, the largest Internet company in Latin America, is active in 18 countries, including the United States, and already has approximately 60 million unique visitors per month, 8 million unique users per month on Terra TV, with an average of 66 million streamings per month.

Terra reported net revenue of $500 million in 2007 and has portals in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Fernando Rodriguez, CEO of Terra Networks USA, said: "We are very excited to be able to offer our users and pet owners in general a much-needed online resource in English and Spanish with the most accurate medical information for pets."

"Terra's impact on the U.S. Hispanic market is undeniable. Our partnership with such an industry giant, allows us to reach the largest, fastest growing minority of the U.S. population. We now have the resources to provide our advertising clients with first-class access to a demographic that over indexes the general market in almost every sector," said Nicolas Chereque, Vice President of Sales, PetMD.

PetMD offers numerous resources, such as the pet health library (www.petmd.com/healthlibrary) with topics ranging from simple explanations of dog aggression to complex types of bacterial infections in reptiles. Consumers also have access to a dedicated first aid section highlighting frequent emergencies for most species (www.petmd.com/emergency). Additionally, PetMD helps pet owners connect with veterinarians by providing a local directory of animal health professionals (www.petmd.com/findveterinarian). The Spanish portal, espanol.petmd.com, provides PetMD's trusted pet health content to the Spanish speaking population.

According to a Pew survey conducted in 2006, nearly six in ten (57%) of all adults in this country own a pet or pets of one kind or another, with dog owners (39% of all adults) outnumbering cat owners (23%). Thirty-nine percent (39%) of Hispanics have a pet, compared to sixty-four (64%) of Caucasians and thirty percent (30%) of African-Americans. Pet owners are also more affluent: sixty-nine percent (69%) of adults with incomes of $100,000 or more have a pet, compared to forty-five (45%) of adults with an income below $30,000, according to the study.

The pet industry has grown as the number of pets has steadily increased over the years. In 1994 annual sales were at $17 billion. This number more than doubled in 13 years to reach $40.8 billion for the year 2007. Within the last 5 years, sales have increased an average of 6% per year, making the pet industry one of the solid growth sectors in the economy. The lion share of the projected total industry sales for 2007 is divided between pet food with 39% ($16.1 billion), veterinary care 24% ($9.8 billion) and medicine 24%
($9.9 billion). Other animal purchases and pet services like grooming make up the remaining 13% or $5 billion.
