The countdown features an abundance of premieres, including the network's special presentation of their original production Juega Como un MLS Pro on Dec. 7th, and climaxes on Christmas Eve with Cine Sorpresa!'s presentation of the family movie classic A Christmas Carol.

"Juniper Content Corporation's (OTC Bulletin Board: JNPC; "Juniper") Sorpresa!, America's fastest-growing Spanish-language children's network, will premiere its 60-minute live-action original special Juega Como un MLS Pro, the climax of the network's seven-month initiative with Major League Soccer, on Sunday, December 7th at 7 PM EST.

The multifaceted program promotes healthy habits and features one-on-one interviews between Sorpresa!'s Major League Soccer (MLS) sideline reporterito, 15-year-old Leily Sanchez, and some of the sport's most popular players, including Cuauhtemoc Blanco and Jorge Flores, who teach viewers essential soccer skills and the importance of staying active. The docureality special also follows 15-year-old Nathali, 9-year-old Sebastian, and 7-year-old Simon -- avid soccer players who aspire to play professionally -- while they practice, and includes helpful tips from nutritional and sports medicine experts.

"Sorpresa!, America's fastest-growing Spanish-language children's network, will launch the popular live-action Chilean teen TV series, Karku, for U.S. Hispanic tween and teen audiences on August 25 at 9 p.m. ET. Premiering as part of Sorpresa!'s "back-to-school" celebration, Hispanic teens across the U.S. are invited into the world of 13-year-old Emilia and her five friends as they experience the trials and tribulations of growing up.
"Karku offers our audience of Hispanic youth an in-culture, in-language experience that reflects the universal fears and excitement of transitioning from a child to a young adult," said Maria Badillo, SVP of Programming for Sorpresa!. "The tween and teen audience will identify with the challenges and successes of the characters, and parents will appreciate the show's emphasis on the value of hard work to achieve goals."
Set in metropolitan Santiago, Chile, Karku is the first TV series for kids produced in Latin America that follows a telenovela format. It is May Day and the Census is telling us that we are 15% of the country now or 45.5 million strong and 16 states have a Hispanic population of more than 1/2 a million. Yet, I have read that some groups have scaled back their efforts in terms of marches on this day, May 1st. They cite new strategies and even mention that big marches don't work well (some journalists even say "Marches won’t bring immigration reform "). I am not going to agree or disagree, but I will throw in my 2 cents.

If Hispanics/Latinos really seek change or the fulfillment of the promise of power brought about by demographic numbers that are a reality in this country (even without immigration), then there must also be a concerted effort of education, not only of our youth (Nearly 25% of Children Younger Than 5 Are Latino) in the traditional sense of education but of all of us in a new way. We must embrace the internet and technology and utilize them not only for fun and games but for a renaissance of knowledge/a news revolución or the communication of news/info for personal & societal growth.

In truth, this amazing country needs us at our best regardless of whoever says what. With all the baby boomers retiring this country faces an interesting future (see: Census: Fewer young workers for one example) where we may welcome immigrants in the future. Those of us who are already here must be ready to help both the immigrants and this country in its continuing evolution as a leading democracy. This country and its citizens (Hispanic or not) must not fear change (this is in my opinion what lurks below the anti-immigrant movement). Change is how our country was formed. Yes, change can be hard but to push against it is both futile and counter-productive. Instead, I believe that we should all try to be as smart as we can to mitigate how we deal with change because this isn't just about immigration reform but the future of this country.

I may be strumming the same tune that I always do, but that is because I feel strongly that with knowledge and the utilization of that knowledge (i.e. education) we could actually do/be something and help shape a wonderful future for this great country.
