Tags: GOLTV, soccer
GolTV, the only live bilingual channel delivering 24/7 soccer, will launch this week in New York City and Los Angeles on Time Warner Cable, making GolTV’s exclusive and in-depth soccer coverage available to subscribers in both Spanish and English.
Time Warner Cable, the second-largest cable operator in the U.S., will add GolTV to the Sports tier at channel 459 and the DTV en Español package at channel 820 in New York City. In Los Angeles, it will be added to the core Hispanic packages including the new El Paquetazo package, and available on channel 856.
Additionally, Time Warner Cable will launch GolTV in several of its Texas systems, including systems in Dallas, Austin and Waco, as well as on its Hudson Valley system in New York.
“Soccer has more participants than any other sport in the Americas, and as the popularity of soccer increases in North America – so does the reach of GolTV,” said Enzo Francescoli, Founder & CEO of GolTV. “Now Time Warner Cable subscribers won’t miss a match as the 2008-2009 seasons kickoff and the road to the 2010 World Cup begins.”
The Time Warner Cable launch comes as GolTV gears up for Europe’s 2008-2009 season openers. On August 15, only GolTV has exclusive coverage of the opening match of Germany’s Bundesliga, and then off to Spain for La Liga’s season kickoff on August 29. In addition to exclusive league coverage, GolTV also has rights to the 2010 World Cup qualifying matches for reigning champions Italy, as well as Germany and Spain.

MIAMI, FL – August 3, 2008 – GolTV, the only live bilingual channel delivering 24/7 soccer, regrets Dish Network’s decision to discontinue carriage of GolTV’s unmatched international soccer coverage effective Friday afternoon, August 1. Dish Network’s loss of GolTV was the result of its decision to impose unreasonable contract demands and terms on the independent and privately-owned minority network, GolTV.
Millions of DISH subscribers have lost GolTV’s exclusive, live from London, TV coverage of the Emirates Cup. This decision also falls on the verge of 2010 World Cup qualifying matches and season kick-offs of GolTV’s exclusive TV coverage of the Spain’s La Liga on August 31 and Germany’s Bundesliga on August 15.
The satellite giant decided to remove GolTV, from its America’s Top 250 and Dish Latino programming packages. Consistently ranked in the top five Hispanic satellite and cable-delivered networks, Spanish and English-speaking soccer enthusiasts have been calling the South Florida-based soccer programming network over the weekend to voice their stunned reaction by the sudden and unprecedented loss of one of their favorite sports networks.
“Dish Network has demonstrated total disregard for independent networks, the millions of soccer fans we represent, and minority-owned businesses by this action,” said Rodrigo Lombello, GolTV COO. “We urge upset Dish viewers to contact us or Dish to voice their concerns.”
Dish Network subscribers can take action by emailing GolTV at info@goltv.tv .

Edgar Castillo - Born in the U.S., Playing Soccer for Mexico
Tags: Mexico, soccer
But despite his talents and his development as a player in the United States, Castillo will never play for the national team. He holds dual American and Mexican citizenship, and after being wooed by Mexico’s former coach, Hugo Sánchez, Castillo decided earlier this year to represent Mexico in international competition. FIFA rules prohibit a player from changing countries after turning 21.
Even more frustrating for United States soccer officials, Castillo said he would have liked to have played for the United States but never attracted much interest until Mexico reached out to him first. “*

Futbol Mundial Magazine Premiere FCBarcelona Commemorative Special Issue for 2008 Tour
Tags: Guadalajara, magazine, soccer
Futbol Mundial, the largest Spanish language sports magazine in the U.S., will produce and distribute a special issue dedicated to FCBarcelona (FCB), one of Europe’s top soccer clubs. The 16-page special issue will dedicate its entire editorial content to FCB’s history, success, and 2008 U.S. tour, which will take place on August 3 versus CD Guadalajara at Chicago’s Soldier Field, and August 6 against the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium in E. Rutherford, NJ.
The tour, recently announced between Major League Soccer (MLS) and FCB, is part of a five-year partnership — the first-ever European club to establish a long-term agreement with MLS in the United States — which includes the organization of a minimum of six international matches throughout the term.
Based upon the success of the 2006 tour of FCB, the publisher of Futbol Mundial Magazine decided to release another special commemorative issue since the previous tour registered the highest average attendance for any club tour in U.S. history, averaging 80,734 in three matches, and is the only one among club soccer tours in the U.S. featuring three or more games to sell out every stadium. In 2006, FCBarcelona played in front of three sold-out crowds: at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (vs. CD Guadalajara, 1-1 on Aug. 6 in front of 92,650), at Houston’s Reliant Stadium (vs. Club America, 3-3 on Aug. 9, with a crowd of 70,550), and at Giants Stadium in E. Rutherford, NJ (vs. NY Red Bulls, 4-1 on Aug. 12, in front of 79,002).
In addition to the special FCB issue, Futbol Mundial magazine has also

“Nuestro Orgullo. Nuestra Cerveza.” That’s Crown Imports’ tagline—which translates to “Our Pride. Our Beer”—for the latest Corona Extra TV and radio campaign, targeting non-Mexican Latinos.
TV ads for the Spanish effort, created by Casanova Pendrill, Costa Mesa, Calif., started appearing this week and will run nationwide. One vignette celebrates Hispanic music and traditions with a San Antonio scene showing Mexican Americans dancing at a fiesta, followed by a wedding in New York featuring a Caribbean-style band, and revelers dancing to Norteña music in Los Angeles. A second spot focuses on sports and features a runner of Caribbean-Hispanic descent racing in a Los Angeles marathon, in addition to Latinos in baseball, boxing and soccer.”*

Spanish speakers in Winston-Salem soon will be able to flip to a new TV program geared for them.
But unlike the Spanish-language cable channels that offer melodramatic novelas (soap operas) with Mexican actors, European soccer matches or news from Latin America, this one will have more local flavor.
Winston-Salem’s government channel, WSTV-13, plans to broadcast a public-service program called Tu Comunidad (Your Community) in Spanish. The goal is to make Hispanics aware of the services that the city offers, officials said yesterday.”*
