PEOPLE en Espanol Names the Best and Worst Dressed Celebrities of the Year

"Penelope Cruz, Charlize Theron, and Eva Longoria are named the best-dressed women in Hollywood in the new issue of PEOPLE en Espanol, on newsstands on August 4. Penelope Cruz lands the top spot as the best dressed with Charlize Theron ranked #2. Others on the list include actresses Katie Holmes and Angelina Jolie, and singer Rihanna. Cruz, who next stars in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona along with Scarlett Johansson and real life beau, Javier Bardem (also on the best dressed list), is known for her elegant style at her red carpet appearances.
The magazine also gives thumps up to women with curves highlighting Ugly Betty's America Ferrera, Grey Anatomy's Sara Ramirez and singer Jennifer Hudson for their great sense of fashion; and celebrates famous moms who recently shed the pregnancy weight and got back into shape like Cate Blanchett, Salma Hayek and Jennifer Lopez. Daisy Fuentes takes top honors in a special reader's poll on www.peopleenespanol.com.
Among the Best Dressed men are David Beckman, taking the top honors, along with actors George Clooney, Javier Bardem and singer Daddy Yankee.

David Archuleta on Top
David Archuleta, the first Hispanic contestant to make it as a finalist on American Idol, talks to PEOPLE en Espanol about his newfound fame, how he almost did not make it, and his plans for the future. "I've always imagined myself on stage," says Archuleta, who at 17-years-old, placed second, after David Cook, on the hit reality show series.
Even after millions of votes and his "Archie" fan club, he still remains humble. "I thought nobody liked to hear me sing," says Archuleta. However, his accomplishments are nothing short of a miracle. About a year and a half ago, Archuleta received medical treatment for paralysis in his vocal cords. "The doctor said there is somebody up there who wants him to sing because, medically speaking, he should not be able to," says Archuleta's father.
He's now gearing up for the American Idols Live! Tour 2008 and will also start recording his first album as a solo artist. "I feel a connection when I hear other people singing. If I can accomplish that, it would make me feel so good," says Archuleta. (Page 143)

"Internationally recognized Grey Anatomy’s star, Sara Ramirez, has teamed up with the Milk Processors Education Program (MilkPEP) to help communicate to Hispanics across the US the importance of thinking about what they drink. As such, Mexican-born Sara Ramirez will be sporting a milk mustache in the upcoming Hispanic ad campaign, launching in print magazines nationwide on July 24th. This message is key for Hispanics since according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 1/3 of Hispanics in the United States are currently obese. Obesity leads to many health related problems that Hispanics are already predisposed to such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Studies indicate that drinking low-fat and/or fat free milk is not only good for developing strong bones but also helps you maintain a healthy weight and build toned lean muscle mass(1). Think About Your Drink When thinking of maintaining a “healthy weight” most people focus on what’s on their plate, but what’s filling their glass is also important. Since the 1970’s there has been a 123% increase in the consumption of sugary soft drinks while milk consumption has declined..(2) This increased consumption of calorie and sugar filled drinks may be associated with unhealthy weight gain.(3) “The majority of the people, kids, teenagers, don’t drink the recommended three glasses of milk each day. Unfortunately”¦!” she added. Role modeling Break through Latina artist, Sara Ramirez, is not only committed to health through her TV role as a doctor on the famous show Grey’s Anatomy, she also wants to reach out to the Hispanic community with the important message to moms to “Think About what they drink” since they are the primary role models for their families healthy eating habits and well-being. As a role model, this is particularly important to her. “Well, for me, success is obviously tied to work. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to work in something you love. Success Actress Sara Ramirez plays Dr. Calliope (Callie) Torres, a tough orthopedic surgeon, on the hit TV show Grey’s Anatomy. Before she was diagnosing patients, Sara attended Juilliard and participated in their Drama Division. She trained as an actress and alto singer before making her way to Broadway to portray The Lady of the Lake in Monty Python’s Spamalot. This performance netted Sara the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical. Sara acted in several Broadway hits such as The Capeman, A Class Act and The Gershwin’s Fascinating Rhythm. Furthermore, Sara has had minor roles in hit movies such as You’ve Got Mail and Spiderman. Hispanic Mags Growth Slow, Despite Cultural Boom

"In 1995, People stumbled onto the U.S. Hispanic market when it put Tejano music star Selena on a split-run cover after her untimely death; the issue flew off West Coast and Texas newsstands. A lightbulb went off above the collective head of Time Inc. and the Spanish-language People en Español came to be a year later. Around the same time, Latina, which is largely in English, launched, and all hailed the emerging Hispanic publishing category--a surefire growth market, with U.S. census data behind it, to boot. Fast forward 11 years; the Hispanic cultural footprint is much deeper. Latina, in its February 2007 issue, included a Latino TV guide, a lineup of Hispanic stars that you can watch on mainstream shows. Thursday looks particularly strong, with Ugly Betty in a prime slot on ABC, followed by Grey’s Anatomy featuring Sara Ramirez. “Five years ago we could not have put that together,” said Latina editor in chief Betty Cortina. “Today we can. Five years ago there were no Eva Longorias, no Shakiras.”"

NHMC IMPACT AWARDS Celebrating Excellence Among the Latino Entertainment Community

"Hennessy sponsored the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) 9th Annual Impact Awards Gala who’s mission is to open doors for Latinos in media. The black tie event was hosted by Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jacqueline Obradors of ABC’s “Freddie”. Tony Award winner Sara Ramirez who won this year’s TONY for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical for “Monty Python’s Spamalot” received an award for Outstanding Performance in a Theatrical Production. Enrique Murciano from the hit CBS TV series “Without a Trace” received an award for Outstanding Performance in a Dramatic Television Series. Miguel Sandoval starring in the hit drama series “Medium” received an award for Outstanding Performance in a Dramatic Television Series. Benito Martinez who plays Captain David Acebeda on “The Shield” received an award for Outstanding Performance in a Dramatic Television Series. Comedian Carlos Mencia who can currently be seen in 85 million living rooms nationwide with his Comedy Central television series, “Mind of Mencia” was honored with the Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series.
