Isabella Wall designated Representative of the Secretary of State of Tourism of Dominican Republic

The assignment
To create initiatives and platforms to promote the  Dominican Republic as a vacation destination and a  productions location for the television and film  industries.    Born and raised in the Dominican Republic and now  based out of Los Angeles, Isabella is a member of the  Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a writer,  actress and entrepreneur. Her acting credits include ER,  Nip Tuck and Days Of Our Lives.     In recent years Isabella realized the need for family  encouragement in the lives of teenage girls and created  an advocate platform for quinceañeras, the Latina  coming of age celebration of the fifteenth birthday,  hugely popular among Hispanics in the US including  Mexicans and Dominican-Americans.     Isabella became the spokesperson for the quinceañera  industry when she was named “Fairy Godmother of  quinceañeras” by the Latin media and has been  compared to Ann Landers for Hispanic girls. Her  mission, promoting that this once in a lifetime event is a  trans-cultural celebration in the United States and an  important way to bring families together.

Isabella is the co-author along with husband Marty Wall, of “Chasing Rubi, The truth about Porfirio Rubirosa, the last playboy”; the first English published biography about the Dominican playboy-diplomat rumored to have been Ian Fleming’s inspiration for James Bond, recently featured on History Channel international and soon to be turned into a movie. www.ChasingRubi.com    In her book, Isabella describes the Dominican Republic as “the new St. Bart, where one sometimes can see the likes of Bill Clinton, Oscar De La Renta, Julio Iglesias, Brad and Angelina, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Oscar de la Hoya and Sammy Sosa, strolling about the beautiful beaches, where tourism and luxury home construction are booming. Wealthy Americans are flocking there in droves because, though the Caribbean remains crystal blue as it always was, the sunsets are as stunning as ever, and the lush tropical landscape still beckons”.   In Isabella’s opinion, “discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, the island of Hispaniola AKA Quisqueya by the native Taino Indians, is still not completely uncovered. There are coves still hidden and white foamy waves that look more like lazy fluffy feathered seagulls, lying along the sandy shores, that need to be exposed. The dollar still goes a long way in this heavenly paradise and we are looking forward to shooting many important movie scenes that may announce to the world, “Just call us the DR, that’s who we are”.

“Nominees for the first ever annual Tecate Premios Deportes (Tecate Sports Awards) were announced today by Univision, the most-watched Spanish-language television network in America. Comprised of Hispanic athletes in ten different categories, the nominees have been selected for their talent, character and perseverance, as well as their contributions to and impact on the Hispanic community. The Tecate Premios Deportes awards will be presented during a celebrity-filled red carpet celebration at the historic Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California, and will be broadcast on the Univision Network on Sunday, July 20th.

The Tecate Premios Deportes nominees were selected by a distinguished panel of current and former professional athletes and sports writers, including famed boxer Oscar de la Hoya; legendary Mexican soccer goalie Jorge Campos; retired NFL player Tony Casillas; NFL Hall of Fame recipient Anthony Muñoz; former Mexican soccer coach Jesus Bracamontes; and Enrique Borja, legendary Mexican forward and team president of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) Tigres.

The judging criteria for the awards included the athletes statistical excellence, participation in a televised professional sport in the United States during 2007, cumulative impact on their team and in the sport, and their reputation as a role model for the Hispanic community.

The Academy went through an arduous selection process to identify the nominees. We wanted to ensure this event recognized athletes based on their merit and not popularity, said Oscar de la Hoya, executive member of the Tecate Premios Deportes Academy. We are confident the list encompasses the best Hispanic athletes and look forward to honoring our colleagues at the event airing nationwide on July 20th on Univision.

Sports fans have voted for four of these awards at Univision.com (keyword: Tecate Premios Deportes): Atleta Masculino del Año (Male Athlete of the Year), Atleta Femenina del Año (Female Athlete of the Year), Equipo All Star de Béisbol (Baseball All-Star Team) & Equipo All Star de Fútbol (Soccer All-Star Team). In addition, a live, dedicated mini-site provides exclusive coverage of the event and video highlights of the nominees in their finest sports moments. Tecate Premios Deportes is the first-ever awards event of its kind, showcasing a seamless merger of sports and entertainment that will reach countless online fans.

Sammy Sosa living, playing on own terms

“The charismatic Sammy Sosa plays by his own rules. He always has and he always will.

Strong-willed, stubborn, borderline selfish, but always competitive and almost always with a smile on his face, his strong personality is part of the reason he is loved.

And loathed.”*

‘Sugar’ a hit at Sundance Film Festival - Indie baseball film features Dominican hopefuls

“Major League Baseball fans know the Pedro Martinez or Sammy Sosa story well. A young Dominican ballplayer claws his way through the minor league hierarchy, eventually finding his way to fame, fortune, and hero status. Baseball is so pervasive in the Dominican Republic, how could a young ballplayer not dream of finding his way to the hallowed grounds of Wrigley Field or Yankee Stadium?

But for every Big Papi, there are hundreds of thousands of young dreamers who never reach the top, either by lack of ability or shifting priorities. Scores of young Dominicans who come to cities across America with stars in their eyes struggle to fit in to new cultures. They are far more likely to end up living paycheck to paycheck in Washington Heights, Jamaica Plain or Hialeah than collecting a Major League pension.”*

LatinoBaseball.com Celebrates Latino Achievement in Baseball

“In commemoration of Hispanic Heritage Month, LatinoBaseball.com along with sponsor Johnnie Walker, launched an exciting campaign to celebrate the prolific history of Latinos in baseball, including Hispanic Heritage Day at the Ballpark, a national radio campaign with future hall of famer David Concepción, and baseball trivia contests for readers of major national magazines. At six stadiums in major Hispanic regions – New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Houston, and Dallas – Latino players such as Alex Rodriguez, all-star Yankee and this season’s homerun leader; Miguel Cabrera, all-star third baseman of the Florida Marlins; and the Texas Rangers’ Sammy Sosa, currently fifth on the all-time homerun list, were honored for their contributions to baseball. The events drew particular excitement among fans, as they coincided with the approaching heat of the Major League Baseball playoff race.

Hispanic Heritage Day at the Ballpark asked fans over the age of 21 to vote online at LatinoBaseball.com for their favorite local Latino players. The players that received the most votes were then honored in a pre-game ceremony on-field before their hometown crowd as the 2007 Latino Player of the Year. Along with representatives from Johnnie Walker and LatinoBaseball.com, one lucky voter in each market was also given the opportunity to present the prestigious award directly to the player.

“It’s remarkable to see the impact that Latinos continue to have on baseball,” said Ralph Paniagua, President and Founder of LatinoBaseball.com. “We’re so proud to honor these incredible athletes who have not only changed the sport, but inspired millions of fans across the globe.”

The first ceremony took place at the Florida Marlins’ Pro-Player Stadium, followed by events at Texas Rangers Stadium in Arlington, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Houston Astros’ Minute Maid Park, and New York Yankee Stadium. The final award ceremony was held in Chicago at the White Sox’s U.S. Cellular Field.

During each ceremony, Latino baseball legends of the past were honored through a special video presentation displayed on the scoreboard. Many of the stadiums also featured live musical performances throughout the presentation.

“In a season gone horribly wrong, the Rangers have given you many reasons to fault them, including bad pitching, bad hitting and bad personnel decisions, which, come to think of it, pretty much covers everyone in the organization.

Except for the guy you didnt want to like.

Fans, media, scouts, people were laughing when the Rangers signed Sammy Sosa.”

In an article that’s supposed to reveal the secret of Sosa’s comeback, writer Jeff Pearlman suggests that language instruction turned the baseball player around.”

Sammy Sosa gets another run around the bases

“Sammy Sosa, the guy who always relished his self-cast role as The Gladiator, made a remarkable admission Tuesday.

“I had so many years in my body,” Sosa said. “When I left 2005, Baltimore, I wanted to come back in 2006, but I was beaten mentally.”

Sosa believes this was a passing affliction. The Texas Rangers agree with him, although they wont lose much if they’re wrong. They signed him to a non-guaranteed minor-league contract, giving him a chance to earn $500,000 and incentive bonuses while writing a new ending to his notable career.”

Wisin & Yandel Continue Making History: This Time in the Dominican Republic

“Last Saturday, Wisin and Yandel, the singing Duo that is making history, achieved what no other Reggaeton artist has done by becoming the first stars of the genre to present a concert in the majestic amphitheater at Altos del Chavón in the Dominican Republic.

For the Reggaeton idols it was truly a magical night, overflowing with energy and emotion. “To perform on this stage where such artists of the caliber of Frank Sinatra, Julio Iglesias, Santana and Marc Anthony have appeared, fills us with a sense of great pride and satisfaction. We know we are elevating the name of Puerto Rico and of Latinos everywhere to new heights and it is a responsibility we can’t ignore,” stated the interpreters of 14 hits in 2006.

Wisin and Yandel, accompanied by their dancers and a band under the direction of Angelo Torres, had over 6,000 fans singing and dancing to the rhythms of 22 of their recent musical hits. Among them, “Pega’o”, “Pam Pam”, “Rákata”, “Llamé pa’ Verte”, “Burn it Up” and “Noche de Sexo.” The event also counted with the participation of Anthony from the music group Aventura.

The public wore T-shirts, caps, and held posters with images celebrating the historical visit of the young recording artists. Many became emotional as they danced and sang to the “Dynamic Duo’s” catchy songs. During their interpretation of “Yo te Quiero”, Wisin and Yandel accompanied by the male dancers created a commotion among the fans in the audience.

Among those present in this spectacular event were major league baseball players Sammy Sosa, Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees and David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox. Wisin took advantage of a musical break to affirm, “I am a fan of many Dominicans. I love baseball. And here in Santo Domingo and in Puerto Rico we have among the best ball players.”

Wisin and Yandel have become the most highly sought after singers in the Reggaeton market, positioning themselves and earning the favor of both the industry and the public, thanks to their spectacular stage presence, which included fireworks, giant plasma screens, live bands and professional dancers that brought everyone to their feet.

This week, Wisin and Yandel, who have also been nominated for Lo Nuestro Awards, will depart for New York City and promise not to disappoint the public at Radio City Music Hall. Among the hydraulic stages, special lighting effects, dry ice, pyrotechnics and visuals, the Duo will make young and old get up to sing and dance.

“Thanks for supporting the duo that is making history. We belong to the public and will represent Latinos where ever we go,” expressed Wisin and Yandel from the stage.”

“The 30-second Pepsi commercial that aired last summer captured the changing mug of the nation’s pastime. Here you had Alex Rodriguez and Vladimir Guerrero — celebrated products of the Dominican Republic (though A-Rod grew up comfortably in South Florida) — in a whimsical home run derby, pitching the popular soft drink.

Before that, it was slugger Sammy Sosa flashing his effervescent smile for everything from Pepsi to Fila to Kmart. Mariano Rivera promoting Nike. Pedro Martinez pitching a McDonald’s lobster roll across New England. Ozzie Guillen doing the same for Subway in Chicago. Francisco Rodriguez selling Pepsi in Southern California and to countrymen in Venezuela. And let’s not forget Viagra pitchman Rafael Palmeiro.”

Diminished capacity floors Sosa

“Last October, before Game Four of the World Series, baseball celebrated its ethnic evolution by announcing its Latino Legends Team in front of a national television audience. That’s when it became apparent how far Sammy Sosa has fallen.

Not long before that night, Sosa had been the face of baseball, its most popular player, the pitchman advertisers were eager to have representing their products. Fans rejoiced over his boyish innocence, his sparkling charisma, as he engaged a surly, agitated Mark McGwire in the great home run chase of 1998. No Latino hitter had ever been as universally beloved. “
