The appearance by Don Francisco marks his first return to the Summit since receiving the Lifetime of Achievement in Hispanic Television Award in 2003. The coveted award is presented to one individual, each year, at the Summit, and Don Francisco was the Award's first recipient.

The presentation topic about the evolution of advertising in Hispanic television is particularly appropriate since, for the first time, the Hispanic Television Summit is part of this year's annual Advertising Week in New York. The Summit is the Hispanic cornerstone for the week-long series of events that focuses on the economic influence of the advertising, media and marketing industries.

Sabado Gigante has been on the air for 47 years and is recognized by the "Guinness Book of World Records" as "the longest running television variety program in the world created and hosted uninterruptedly by Mario Kreutzberger, better known as Don Francisco."

When he was running for president this year, many dismissed Richardson as someone simply angling to become Clinton’s VP. He did seem deferential towards her during some of the debates. So it was a shock when he endorsed Obama in late March. A sputtering Bill Clinton, who spent Super Bowl Sunday trying to get Richardson to endorse his wife, was furious. One Clinton loyalist, James Carville, likened Richardson to Judas. Picking Richardson, who is Hispanic, might be an inspired choice, but it could anger the Clinton camp. (Still, don’t rule out Richardson as the running mate.)

A co-production of the Network and its Station Group, the program will explain the benefits of digital broadcasting, which viewers will need to obtain a digital-to-analog converter box to continue to use their analog television sets, and how a digital-to-analog converter box can be obtained. The half-hour special will air on Saturday, December 1, at 4:30 pm ET/PT (3:30 pm Central).

Hosted by network personalities Fernando Arau and Carmen Dominicci, the special will explain in simple, easy to understand terminology the difference between the current analog and upcoming digital systems. The show will also detail the government’s program to issue coupons to help subsidize the purchase of digital-to-analog converter boxes.

Also appearing in the special are Spanish-language television icon and host of Univision’s hit show “Sabado Gigante” (Giant Saturday), Don Francisco, and Carlos Calderon, host of Galavisión Television Network’s hit interactive-music show “Acceso Máximo” (All Access). U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutiérrez, as well as Carmen Scanlon of the Federal Communications Commission will also be featured.
