MTV Tr3s programming and on-air advertising has received eight Imagen Foundation Awards for positive portrayals of young Latinos. The 23rd Annual Imagen Awards take place Thursday, August 21 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Nominated in the Best Variety or Reality Show category is “Mi TRL Awards,” an annual awards show that recognizes and honors the people and music that make “Mi TRL” the “must watch” show for U.S. Latinos and sends winners home with a shiny “Gallo” (rooster) trophy. The nominated show was packed with some of today’s hottest artists, such as RBD, Wisin y Yandel, Will Smith, Jessica Alba, Menudo, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, and Jaslene Gonzalez and Zuleyka Rivera performing, accepting and presenting awards, along with a surprise appearance by Diddy who opened the show to the delight of the fans who attended the awards show.
“Beyond Borders: An MTV Tr3s Immigration Forum,” a network special that gave voice to Latino youth who were ready to go beyond the politics and rhetoric of the immigration debate, was nominated for Best National Informational Programming. The historic, first-ever of its kind on network TV event, brought together artists such as Ana Ortiz, Calle 13’s Residente and Malverde; young people from Cal State L.A; and U.S. Congressman Xavier Becerra to explore solutions to the immigration crisis and discuss its impact on their families, education and everyday lives. It was hosted by journalist Gustavo Arellano.
MTV Tr3s’ multiplatform music discovery initiative, “Descubre & Download” earned two nominations in the Best On-Air Advertising category for projects with newcomer Colby O’Donis and West-coast rapper Malverde.
Also earning nominations in Best On Air Advertising were three MTV Tr3s “Tu Pride” entries, “Sylvestre,” “Elan,” and “Ruben.” “Tu Pride” is a series of mini-documentaries about young Latinos growing up today with a mix of cultural influences.
“The entire MTV Tr3s familia is dedicated to the positive and uplifting portrayal of the U.S. Latino experience and we are humbled to be recognized with these nominations by the Imagen Foundation,” said Lucia Ballas-Traynor, Senior Vice President and General Manager, MTV Tr3s.
MTV Tr3s (mtvTr3s.com) is in 6.4 million Hispanic TV households and 34 million total TV households, making it the most-widely distributed TV network dedicated to superserving today’s bicultural Latino youth. MTV Tr3s programming is rooted in the fusion of American and Latino music, cultures, lifestyles and languages. Music programming is at the core of MTV Tr3s and the channel features hitmakers, emerging artists and new sounds that resonate with young U.S. Latinos. In addition to music programming, the MTV Tr3s programming slate also features lifestyle series, news, documentaries and other long-form programs that celebrate US Latino hybrid identity and culture. “

On June 14, 2008, before launching the second photo shoot with Maite Perroni, NYX is hosting an autograph-signing event where fans can meet Maite and take home a personalized picture and beauty goodies. There will be free makeovers, snacks and drinks, raffles, goodies, music, and media coverage. The event is in appreciation of all the fans that supported Maite and NYX since the beginning of their successful union. Media are welcome to participate at the private interview. To participate, press badges must be obtained before the event. All interested co-sponsors and media coverage for this event are welcome.
NYX officially announced Maite Perroni as their spokes model at their launch party in Mexico City on September 27, 2007. The first photo shoot was in July 2007, in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, California, which spanned across three days. Since the union, NYX and Maite have received abundant accolades, support from fans and customers, and have built a larger following by uniting them.
About NYX: Founded in 1999 by Ms. Toni Ko and headquartered in Los Angeles, CA, the primary goal was to provide professional quality cosmetics at discount store prices. Today, NYX accomplished that challenge. It is one of the top cosmetics companies with outstanding growth in the United States. Its products are characterized as ultramodern and are directed for the public, with emphasis on makeup artists and adventurous makeup aficionados with their wide range of bold colors that never discontinue. As for the name, NYX stands for the Greek goddess of night comparing her by way of metaphor to the young ‘goddesses’ that show sophistication and boldness in the modern-day night scene. NYX products are marketed in more than thirty countries, covering five continents, and are selling in stores such as Ultra, Longs, Rite Aid, independent salons, and bricks-and-mortars across the globe.
About Maite Perroni: She won our hearts in her debut as “Lupita” in the hit Spanish youth series “Rebelde” and left us with a special message that anything is possible. She was born on March 9, 1983 in Mexico City D.F. At only eleven months old, she and her family moved to Guadalajara. An accomplished singer, actress and songwriter, Maite gained popularity as an actress playing Lupita and as a singer being a member of the Latin phenomenon group RBD, in which she is said to be the “mother” of the group. She studied in Mexico’s Center of Artistic Education for two years where she discovered her passion for acting. Maite is involved in various charities and enjoys volunteering her time for those in need. Maite’s love for dance led to a campaign with sport giant Nike that promoted the importance of dance. Receiving a great amount of support from the Hispanic population in the US, NYX strengthened the bond by enlisting Maite as their spokes model and hiring advertising specialists Patricia and Tony Gracia of Power Media Group, Inc. to oversee their campaign focusing on the Hispanic market.
About Power Media Group,Inc.: Headquartered in Los Angeles, California PMG is a company that offers an extensive portfolio of advertising services in the Hispanic Media. While mainstream Latin pop has enjoyed a resurgence of late, particularly through a flurry of Mexican acts such as RBD and Camila, and urban Latino remains strong (Wisin and Yandel, Angel and Khris are still high on the charts), the middle ground of Latin alterna-pop is still flourishing. Making music that appeals to a young adult audience, artists that began their careers as experimenters are creating lush new hybrids that modernize traditional music while updating pop conventions.
Antonio Carmona is best known as the lead singer of one of Spain’s original fusion flamenco groups, Ketama. That group was enormously successful in making salsa and flamenco compatible, with Carmona’s soulful vocals easily flowing with Afro-Caribbean rhythms. His new album, “Vengo Venenoso” (Surco-Universal) is neither a flamenco nor a flamenco-fusion album, but it retains the intoxicating qualities of Carmona’s voice.”*

When Mexican super pop group RBD came to Bakersfield for the first time in July 2006, they rocked their local fans’ world — and the Rabobank Arena’s as well.
“That was kind of the beginning when all of a sudden the Hispanic community noticed we were here,” said Steve Womack, general manager of the Rabobank Arena Theater and Convention Center.
Well, vice versa, some local Hispanics might say.”*
