“Residents waiting for a Latino market in Greeley will finally get their wish later this year, but not in the package they expected.

A Minnesota-based company is changing the Wholesale Food Outlet, 3635 10th St., to an Avanza Supermarket, a Latino grocery store. The company — Nash Finch — owns the Wholesale Food Outlet and will own Avanza.

The move comes as a different Latino grocery store, Rancho Liborio, remains secretive about its own future in Greeley.”*

“In the next 30 days, Rancho Liborio developers may know in which direction they want to go in Greeley.

Anthony Trujillo, co-owner of the Colorado arm of the California-based Latino grocery chain, partially abandoned initial plans to build a new store at a site at 43rd Avenue and 10th Street after nearly a year of work to rezone the site. In July, he turned his attention to locating into the existing, yet empty, Albertson’s property at 23rd Avenue and Reservoir Road.”

“After more than a year of discussion and controversy, Rancho Liborio has finally found a home in Greeley.

The Latino supermarket will soon move into the abandoned Albertsons, 2325 23rd Ave. Co-owner Anthony Trujillo said he hopes to have the store open by the end of 2007 and perhaps by November.

“Were really trying to get this store open in Greeley in 2007,” Trujillo said. “The rationale is that with an existing structure, we can get in there rather quickly. We wouldn’t have to buy a lot of equipment.”"

Tortillas Like Mamá’s, but This Is No Bodega - Rancho Liborio in Denver (this looks pretty cool)

“YOU’RE not going to find Swanson frozen dinners at Rancho Liborio, a shiny new 49,000-square-foot supermarket in this Denver suburb. But you will find the fried plantains called maduros and giant Peruvian kernels of corn.

In the produce section, a dollar will buy you three avocados. The tilapia are sold live. Stacks of fresh tortillas, made from 600 pounds of corn ground in the store daily, are always warm. And maybe, if the local political winds shift, shoppers might one day be able to buy a chicken that was slaughtered and plucked on site a few hours earlier.

The store’s slogan pretty much says it all: “Si es de allá lo tenemos aquí.” Translated, “If it’s from there, we have it here.””

Latino Market Drops Chicken Slaughtering Plans in Colorado

“A Hispanic grocery store has dropped plans to slaughter chickens after hearing concerns from city officials and residents.

Rancho Liborio Markets on Friday withdrew its request for an onsite slaughtering facility. The store is expected to be built by the end of the year.

“We’re grateful that they withdrew that (request),” said Becky Safarik, community development director for Greeley. “Their main operation is the grocery store, and that is the piece that is the anchor.”"

“Rancho Liborio, a new grocery store that caters to Hispanic customers, will open quietly in Commerce City today.

The store is owned by California- based Liborio Markets and Denver developer Anthony Trujillo, who says the 43,000-square-foot store in the former King Soopers at 6040 E. 64th Ave. is the first of many slated for Colorado.

Today’s “soft” opening will be followed by a grand opening celebration July 30, he said.

The company, which spent more than $10 million to renovate the store, has additional openings pending in Aurora, Greeley, Colorado Springs, Thornton and Westminster. It also has made offers on some of the 13 soon-to-be-vacant Albertsons stores in this market, Trujillo said Wednesday.”
