"What more perfect way to usher the summer season than with a good dose of KINKY as Sonic360 releases RARITIES on June 19th, 2007, a collection of remixes, live and previously unreleased songs by the Monterrey band that brought the contagious "Mas" into the world.

RARITIES was originally put out in the UK as a limited edition of 750 hand numbered copies, just for Kinky's UK fans, but overwhelming positive feedback from the European press has prompted the band and Sonic360 to launch the new full scale release in the US and Canada.

"We love making records, writing songs and playing music," says singer Gilberto Cerezo. "Since there are five of us in the band and we do everything as a team, it's hard to make one record that shows off everything we can do. That's why we decided to put out RARITIES. It's a little of this and a little of that: projects we've been doing outside the albums, covers of songs by artists we admire, songs written for movies, people doing remixes and adding their flavor to the Kinky idea. There are also a few live tracks, because the live shows are the most important thing we do."

Like all their albums, RARITIES blends sounds that are contemporary and traditional, dynamic and contemplative, innovative and yet strangely familiar. The album includes new live favorite "Coqueta," which made a guest appearance on Diez, a tribute album to Mexico's Norteno band Intocable; and the much-loved "Selva Lombardi," which was originally written for the band's sophomore album Atlas.

The record also includes KINKY's barnstorming cover of Tito Puente's iconic hymn "Oye Como Va" (extended mix), which was featured on the hit movie MAN ON FIRE. "It was a challenge because Tito Puente and Santana already have strong versions of the song," Cerezo comments. "Our take is more electronic, more rock. We also included a chilled out Lazyboy remix of the song." Other remix artists on RARITIES include: Money Mark ("Presidente"), Toy Selectah (Control Machete), a reggaeton innovator who brings a new energy to "Mas" and a mash up of "Soun Tha Mi Primer Amor" by Norteno Collective's Bostich that blends hip hop, house and Norteno flavors.

RARITIES concludes with three live recordings: "Mas," "The Headphonist," and "Sol." Kinky's Ulises Lozano explains, "There was no crowd, but it was all live. We did older songs because music changes as you play it live; songs pick up other flavors after you've played them a while."

Kinky spent years honing their highly original sound, a fusion of Latin Rhythms, Mexican regional music, electronica and rock'n'roll, in their hometown of Monterrey, in Northern Mexico. They gave Chris Allison, (Coldplay, Beta Band), a three song demo presented on a lovely cassette tape in the winter of 1999 while he was producing Plastilina Mosh. Six months later he signed them to his Sonic360 label and they were off and running. The five-man band - Gilberto Cerezo (vocals, guitar), Ulises Lozano (keyboards), Carlos Chairez (lead guitar), Cesar Pliego (bass) and Omar Gongora (drums) - exploded onto the international scene in the summer of 2000. Since 2002, the band has recorded three eclectic albums - Kinky (2002), Atlas (2003) and Reina (2006) - been nominated for three Grammy's(R) , composed music for films and played countless gigs all over the planet in front of hundreds of thousands, inducing dance floor hysteria and winning legions of enthusiastic fans.

Kinky is currently touring and available for interviews; a special VIP industry only showcase will be announced shortly. Please contact us (info below) for guest list, date and venue information.

After Landing Airplay On Such Leading Tastemaker Stations as KCRW (Los Angeles), KEXP (Seattle), and KUT (Austin) for their Song “Don’t Let Go” from the Soundtrack to the Box Office Hit “La Mujer de Mi Hermano,’ Pacha Massive Gears Up for the Release of Full Length Debut All Good Things

First Single “Don’t Let Go” Featured in NBC “Las Vegas’ Last Week

Winners of the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) Battle of the Bands, the Bronx-based Pacha Massive Have Shared the Stage With Artists Like Ozomatli, Aterciopelados, Sidestepper, and Yerba Buena

“Their songs are high-energy, funky Latin jams that combine Colombian cumbia, Afro-Cuban son, Jamaican reggae-dancehall and all manner of breakbeats, dub and drum-and-bass rhythms”
– NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Straight from the boogie-down Bronx, Nacional Records is proud to introduce its first U.S.-based signing, Pacha Massive. Pacha Massive (from “Pachamama’ meaning “Mother Earth”), is the creative collaboration between Dominican-born Nova (keys / guitar/ writer/ producer) and Colombian-born Maya (writer/bass). The result is a funky fusion of traditional Latin rhythms like Colombian cumbia, Dominican palo, reggae, dancehall, dub and electronica sure to get the pachanga fired up.

The duo met in New York while working on a project with Ivan Benavides (Sidestepper, Bloque, Carlos Vives) where a creative collaboration between the two led to the formation of Pacha Massive in 2005. Pacha Massive landed an impressive first gig opening for Colombian rockers Aterciopelados at Madison Square Garden and has since gone on to share the stage with artists like Ozomatli, Sidestepper, and Yerba Buena. After winning the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) Battle of the Bands contest (previous winners include Kinky and Los Abandoned who have both gone on to launch successful careers) the duo caught the attention of Nacional Records. Pacha Massive’s infectious track “Don’t Let Go” was featured last year on the Nacional Records soundtrack to the box-office hit “La Mujer de Mi Hermano,” and landed airplay on such leading tastemaker stations as Indie 103.1 (Los Angeles), KCRW (Los Angeles), KEXP (Seattle), and KUT (Austin). The new album “All Good Things’ is already being hotly anticipated, with first single “Don’t Let Go” recently selected by NBC to air in the popular show “Las Vegas’ last week.

Nova’s Dominican roots exposed him to a lot of traditional music like palo in addition to music from England and the U.S. played on Dominican radio. His passion for music began early, and as a youth he began building instruments out of whatever he could find using cans for drums, 2 X 4’s, rubber bands, etc. Nova recalls “When I came to the U.S. I got my first instrument on my 15th birthday, a drum set, and as the years passed I picked up guitar, bass, keys, percussion and finally the instrument that allowed me to solidify my ideas in a flexible and efficient way”¦.a Mac.” Nova describes his musical influences not necessarily as musicians, but rather as people “who have influenced me in the way I make music” citing Bruce Lee, Benjamin Franklin and Leonardo DaVinci as “people who had a bigger perspective and were more holistic in their craft”.

Maya was born in Colombia and raised in NYC’s Washington Heights. Her love of music also started at an early age with the violin and later became a career choice when she went to Cuba after graduating to study double bass. Her musical influences range from classical, salsa, bolero and traditional Colombian folklore to reggae, house and artists like Manu Chao, Hector Lavoe and Sidestepper.

“All Good Things” the group’s first album, will be released on February 20th, and is self-produced by Nova with additional mixing in Monterrey, Mexico by Alejandro Rosso of platinum-selling Mexican act Plastilina Mosh. For Nova, a seasoned musician who has played with acts like New York reggae-latin fusion band King Chango, self-producing was a positive experience “because no one knows your material better than yourself and you have the freedom to experiment until you stumble upon what you were looking for.” According to Maya, “our first album has a very personal sound to it. Written by both of us and being produced by Nova, it has a very Pacha sound”. Nova adds, “most songs deal with the struggles of everyday life, perseverance and those hardships we all go through to achieve our dreams”.
