The critics are buzzing about Barcelona-based electronic act The Pinker Tones‘ new album, ‘Wild Animals‘, as the group prepares to join the Vans Warped Tour on June 25 th in Phoenix. The dynamic duo will perform an extended set each night in the Skull Candy electronic music tent on the entire 44 date tour (SEE FULL TOUR DATES LISTING BELOW).

‘Wild Animals’ features a wide array of special vocal guests including reggae soul legend Jimmy Lindsay from Cymande on “The Whistling Song” and Amparo from Spanish band Amparanoia on “Electrotumbao”. First single will be the track, “Happy Everywhere.”

“Our last album, ‘The Million Colour Revolution’, was about utopia, a projection for how we wanted the world to be,” Mister Furia explains. “‘Wild Animals’ is about reality, our interpretation of the actual world we live in. Songs like “The Whistling Song”, “24″ and “On Se Promenait” are some of our happiest and most nostalgic yet.”

Just in 2007, the group was the subject of a New York Times feature, had an A&E television special, performed on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic”, had a song featured on hit sitcoms “Ugly Betty” and “Entourage” and saw heavy video play on networks like mtvU, MTV Tr3s, Mun2, and LATV. The Pinker Tones also made a major splash at last year’s SXSW, where they performed five shows in only 36 hours and also blew away the audience at KCRW’s Sounds Eclectic Evening in Los Angeles alongside leading artists like The Shins, Lily Allen and Rodrigo and Gabriela. The Pinker Tones recent single “Karma Hunters” was also selected by national bilingual youth network Mun2 as the theme song for its popular reality show ‘Chicas Project’.

This past August, The Pinker Tones released ‘More Colours!’, an album complete with infectious remixes and collaborations featuring a stellar lineup of artists including Kinky, Nortec Collective, Zeta Bosio (Soda Stereo) and Mexican Institute of Sound.   Over several national U.S. tours throughout 2007, the DJ crew brought their electrifying set to fans across the country. The New York Times even claimed that, “Unlike many electronica acts, The Pinker Tones thrive onstage.” With a live show that combines the intensity of a rock band and the excitement of a DJ set, the group is moving along on the path to global domination. The Pinker Tones have ventured from Barcelona to such faraway places as London, Caracas, Buenos Aires, Moscow, Toronto, Beijing and Johannesburg.

Latin groove merchants: Nacional Records celebrates three years in business

“Los Angeles-based Latin Alternative label Nacional Records marks its third anniversary with the March release of Senior Flavio’s (founder of Argentina’s Fabuloso Cadillacs) “Supersaund 2012”.

It’s been a fun ride so far.

A review of the label’s releases over the past year turned up zero duds. The Pinker Tones, Nortec Collective, Mexican Institute of Sound, Pacha Massive and DJ Bitman represent a solid nucleus of fresh, genre jumping and straight up groovin’ talent for the label. They all share a passion for embracing the new without abandoning the roots.”*

Barcelona Party Boys Mix Styles and Languages for a Good-Time Electronic Vibe - The Pinker Tones

““Is everybody happy?” asked a voice from the stage as the Pinker Tones headed into the last stretch of their set at S.O.B.’s on Thursday night. The grinning, dancing audience — small but elated — made the answer obvious. No one onstage had spoken; the words were samples, but that didn’t make them any less sincere. The Pinker Tones are a trio of producers and disc jockeys from Barcelona who aim for nothing less than euphoria.

They layer all sorts of things. The Pinker Tones can write pop-structured songs, with verses and choruses, as well as dance tracks; they used lyrics in English, Spanish and fake French, mostly about music and dancing, from recorded voices. Their samplers and CD turntables also held phantom crowds singing “yeah yeah,” electronic beats and boops, Latin percussion, power chords, oldies and buzzy Moog notes. The music stayed upbeat and kept metamorphosing, never wearing out a sample or a gimmick.

The Latin Electronic/Funk Mixtape-Style Album Features Remixes and Tracks from Nortec Collective, Thievery Corporation, David Byrne, Pacha Massive, Sergio Mendes and Many Other Leading Acts

Nacional Records is proud to present Raul Campos’ (host of the influential “Nocturna” show on Santa Monica public radio station KCRW 89.9FM/ KCRW.com) “Loteria Beats Mixtape, Vol. 1”. The album, to be released on October 23rd, is the first of its kind in this genre with the flow of a mixtape and features a cooler-than-cool list of not only acclaimed electronic acts from around the globe like Nortec Collective (Tijuana), The Pinker Tones (Barcelona), Pacha Massive (The Bronx) and Mexican Institute of Sound (Mexico City), but also rare remixes of such artists as Thievery Corporation, David Byrne and Sergio Mendes as well as up-and-comers Cuarto Poder, Los Rumbers, and Choc Quib Town.

It’s only fitting that the first Latin alternative/electronic mixtape of this kind comes from Campos, who along with KCRW music director Nic Harcourt has been continually recognized for introducing Latin Alternative artists to a wider audience and supporting bands like Café Tacuba, Ozomatli and Julieta Venegas throughout their careers.

When he is not busy hosting his week-nightly show “Nocturna” on KCRW, native angeleno Raul Campos continues to make a name for himself as a leading tastemaker DJ, and has recently rocked the decks to sold-out venues like LA’s Hollywood Bowl and NYC’s Central Park Summerstage hosting the 8th annual LAMC (Latin Alternative Music Conference) for the second year in a row.

The Spanish new wave - The Latin Alternative Music Conference hits New York - (another one I wish I could attend)

“A trip-hop/salsa/rock band from the Bronx. A flamenco/tango/electronica act brewed in Barcelona. And a reggae/folk/ranchera ensemble that hails from Mexico.

How do you categorize such a broad range of genre-hoppers? Very carefully, it seems.

All the above bands - Pacha Massive, the Pinker Tones and Cafe Tacuba, respectively - plus scores more, will take part in a sprawling festival corralled under the title “Latin Alternative Music Conference.” Tonight through Saturday, the city plays host to the event, which features bands that all pledge allegiance to something proudly vague.”

NEW LATINO SOUNDS

“Once a year, Latin alternative musicians””those who don’t play salsas, tangos, boleros or other regional beats””come to town for a series of industry panel discussions, promotional stops and, of course, plenty of music during the Latin Alternative Music Conference. Several performances (most of them free) take place at Museo del Barrio, Central Park SummerStage and Celebrate Brooklyn! to showcase not only established acts (such as Manu Chao and former Soda Stereo frontman Gustavo Cerati) but also up-and-coming artists. Among the new acts, check out Spain’s Pinker Tones (pictured) August 3 at SOB’s, who blend electronic and acoustic sounds, and the Chilean ’60s rock-inspired Los Bunkers (August 4 at Prospect Park Bandshell). For reggaeton fans, SummerStage hosts Puerto Rico’s Calle 13 followed by the crazed dub mixes of The Mexican Institute of Sound August 5.”
