““I understand the, you know, deep emotion and passion, absolutely. She’s my friend and I threw everything into her campaign that I could possibly throw into it,” Solis Doyle said during an interview in her office at Obama’s downtown Chicago headquarters. “But as heartbreaking as it was, she lost. And now it’s time, for the good of our country and for the good of my kids, to move on and get Barack Obama elected.”"*

The clock is ticking — Latinos wait to be included in Obama’s campaign (Latina Lista)

“Though Obama’s office called the other Congresswomen to invite them to the gathering, sigh, Latina grudges don’t easily go away, especially with just a phone call.

It probably also didn’t help that this week the Obama campaign announced they had hired Clinton’s former campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, as Chief of Staff for the VP candidate. Since Clinton and Solis Doyle haven’t even spoken to one another since Solis Doyle was fired from the campaign, it sends (maybe) the unintentional message that Clinton isn’t in the running for the VP spot which is bound to be a sore point among the Latina leadership waiting for personal outreach from Obama.

On top of his problem outreaching to some Latina congressional leaders, the campaign has been strangely silent with the Latino blogosphere.”*

Will Patti Solis Doyle’s Appointment Help Barack Obama?

“Patti Solis Doyle was a long-time assistant to Hillary Clinton. She began her association with Clinton as her assistant during Bill Clinton’s campaign for president in 1992. Solis Doyle then served as Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager during her senate runs in 2000 and 2006. Until February of this year, she was Clinton’s campaign manager in her bid for the Democratic nomination. She is credited with coining the term “Hillaryland”, a term describing Clinton’s close circle of advisors. Solis Doyle has a long history in political campaigning, working on both Richard M. Daily’s campaign for Mayor of Chicago and her brother’s campaign for an alderman post in their native Chicag”*

Clinton Insiders Take Umbrage at Patti Solis Doyle Move

“The nomination fight is over, but the warring between the Obama and Clinton campaigns lives on.

The Obama team announced today that it had picked former Clinton campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle to serve on its general election staff. Fair enough: Solis Doyle is a native Chicagoan with deep ties to many senior Obama aides.

But Solis Doyle — who after her firing midway through the primaries is no longer on speaking terms with much of the Clinton inner circle, including the senator herself — has been tapped to serve as chief of staff to the future vice presidential running mate. Not exactly a signal that Obama is considering Hillary Clinton for the job.”*

Patti Solis Doyle Joins Obama Campaign

“The Obama campaign announced on Monday that it has chosen Patti Solis Doyle to a key general election post, making her the first prominent Clinton official to make the leap to the other side.

But it is not exactly being seen by Clinton loyalists as an olive branch.

Obama is installing Solis Doyle as chief of staff to the future vice presidential nominee, who has not yet been picked. Given that Solis Doyle was fired from the Clinton campaign, is now at odds with several senior officials who remained and has a strained relationship with Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton herself these days, the appointment may well signal that Clinton’s chances of being picked for the vice presidential slot are close to nil.”*

Top Hillarylander mulls Obama job - Patti Solis Doyle

“Solis Doyle’s possible hiring is a major breach not just in Clinton’s campaign but in the political universe known as “Hillaryland,” a term Solis Doyle reportedly coined after joining the Clintons in 1991 as the first lady’s personal scheduler. She was forced out of Hillary Clinton’s campaign in February amid internal criticism about her spending practices and preparation for upcoming contests.

“I’ve talked to Patti throughout. I know that she wants to be helpful in a general election campaign, and we appreciate that,” Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod told Politico, declining directly to answer the question of whether he and Solis Doyle had discussed her working for the campaign. “*

“The anger in the Hispanic community over the ousting of Patti Solis Doyle as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign manager continues to unfold, with two Hispanic legislators from Mrs. Clinton’s home state sending an open letter to her expressing their concerns. Patti Solis Doyle was Clinton’s Campaign Manager who Happened to be Latina (Latina Lista)

“News report accounts say that the decision to replace Solis Doyle was finalized over the weekend, while Clinton was losing to Obama, but that the decision had been made much earlier though never officially put into action.

It’s in place now and though it’s unfortunate for Solis Doyle, it obviously has little to do with pitting a Latina against an African American.”*

“Sen. Ruben Diaz, of the Bronx, and Assemblyman Jose Peralta, of Queens, just released an “open letter” to Hillary Clinton, expressing dismay over the resignation of her Latina campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, and suggesting that if Doyle was pushed out there will be consequences - namely that Clinton could lose support in her key base of Hispanic voters.”*

A prominent member (Steven Ybarra, a California superdelegate) of the national Democratic Party has circulated a sharp e-mail saying the removal of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle was disloyal to Hispanics and should give “pause” to superdelegates and voters.

“In an impromptu press conference following a visit with supporters Hillary Clinton said her former campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle, is “a dear friend and trusted advisor and there is just too much to be done so we had to add some more people.”

Clinton’s comments are the first she has made publicly since Solis Doyle stepped aside yesterday afternoon. Clinton downplayed the campaign shift saying, “There really is no significant change. It’s merely that we’ve got to get more help. We just don’t have enough help.” “*

“As Democrat Barack Obamas Maine victory gave him a clean sweep for the weekend, rival Hillary Clinton ran the broom through her high command Sunday - ousting longtime campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle.

The overhaul signaled growing anxiety inside Camp Clinton. Solis Doyle announced her resignation in an afternoon e-mail to staffers, handing over the reins to Maggie Williams, Clintons chief of staff from her First Lady days.

“Patti Solis Doyle has done an extraordinary job in getting us to this point - within reach of the nomination,” Clinton said in a statement. With Solis Doyle shifted to an advisory role, Williams “will lead our campaign with great skill toward the nomination.”"*

Inspiring Latina: Patti Solis Doyle

“By coincidence or perhaps fate, the gray, nondescript building in Arlington, Virginia, where Patricia Solis Doyle runs Senator Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign was a district office of Citizenship and Immigration Services until 2004. It’s a fitting space for Patti, 42, the daughter of Mexican immigrants and the first Latina to run a U.S. presidential campaign. Her corner office is furnished with Clinton hand-me-downs, including an old kitchen table and daughter Chelsea’s armoire. But one thing stands out: a Diego Rivera painting, Los Sembradores. It shows two Mexican men toiling in the soil, bringing forth new life—the perfect metaphor for Patti’s current task.

After managing Hillary’s two triumphant races for New York Senate and heading her political action committee and fund-raising efforts, Patti has become Clinton’s single most important political adviser. “I can’t imagine running for president without her by my side,” Hillary has said of Patti, who confirms she’ll never run for office and is content being a behind-the-scenes player. But what a player she is: At press time, Hillary was leading an ABC News/Washington Post presidential poll with 41 percent of all Democratic support (Barack Obama was her closest competitor at 27 percent). Hillary never even officially asked Patti to run the campaign, where she manages approximately 250 people and millions of dollars in funds. “It was more like, ‘Of course Patti’s the campaign manager,’?” explains Patti, who coined the now-ubiquitous term “Hillaryland” back when Hillary was the first lady.”*

“Hispanic Business magazine has named California State University, Dominguez Hills’ president, Dr. Mildred Garcí, to its 100 Most Influential Hispanics list for 2007. The feature appears in the magazine’s October issue.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized among such an inspiring group of individuals,” Garcí said. “I am extremely proud to be the first Latina president in the California State University system and to lead CSU Dominguez Hills, a university known for its commitment to academic excellence with a diverse, global student body.”

Established in 1979, Hispanic Business magazine has been publishing its 100 Most Influential Hispanics list since 1983. Garcí joins a notable list of politicians, entertainers, CEOs, doctors, lawyers, judges, scientists and fellow educators. Among those recognized in the past have been Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; New Mexico governor and presidential hopeful, Bill Richardson; Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment; and Arturo Moreno, Angels baseball team owner, to name a few.

Included among this year’s list are New York Mets general manager, Omar Minaya, who became the first Hispanic general manager in baseball history in 2001 as GM for the Montreal Expos; America Ferrara, star of the hit television show “Ugly Betty;” New York Secretary of State Lorraine Cortes-Vasquez; and Patti Solis Doyle, campaign manager for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2008 presidential bid. Of the 100 on the list, 34 were women ”” the most in the list’s history.

In compiling the list for 2007 ”” based on nominations from readers and visitors to the paper’s web site, www.hispanicbusiness.com, and from editorial and research staff members ”” the editors of Hispanic Business said, “We look for people we think are having a great year now or who can expect a great year in 2008; people who are contributing to their communities or professions; people who are generally raising the bar in whatever they do.”

Garcí was specifically named one of the most influential Hispanics in education. The magazine alludes to Garcí’s commitment to ensuring the success of Dominguez Hills as one reason for her inclusion. They quote her as saying, “We will bring Dominguez Hills to the highest level of excellence for the benefit of our students, faculty, staff, and the state of California.”

This past August, Garcí became the seventh president of California State University, Dominguez Hills, and in doing so became the first Latina president in the California State University system. She previously had been president of Berkeley College in New York and New Jersey.

Clinton Campaign Manager to Receive the “Latina Leadership Excellence Award” - National Hispanic Corporation will honor Patti Solis Doyle at its 22nd Women’s Conference

“Clinton Campaign Manager Patti Solis Doyle is set to receive the “Latina Leadership Excellence Award” during the 22nd National Hispanic Women’s Conference on Thursday, September 13, in Phoenix, Arizona. The high energy national conference will bring together over 2000 women, businesses, community leaders and public officials. Solis Doyle will also speak at a panel focused on encouraging Latinas to get involved in the national political arena. The event is organized by the non-profit Hispanic Women’s Corporation (HWC).

“I am honored to receive this recognition,” said Solis Doyle. “The work that organizations like the HWC do to empower and encourage Latinas to participate in the political arena is admirable. I congratulate the organization for their commitment to help improve the future of the Latino community.”

“Patti has been a close advisor and friend for almost 16 years,” said Hillary Clinton. “I am proud to see that her hard work and commitment to help bring change to our country is being recognized.”

Patti Solis Doyle is the campaign manager for Hillary Clinton for President. She is the first Hispanic woman to lead a presidential effort in the United States — working hard in a business where it is rare for females to lead major campaigns, and where minorities in key positions are even harder to find. Having stayed out of the limelight for years, Patti is recognized as an effective and low profile leader, with exceptional organizational and political abilities.

The Hispanic Women Corporation is a non-profit corporation known for being a proactive leader in the development of Hispanic women, founded in 1981. Their annual conference has grown to be the largest gathering of Latina women in the nation.”
