Isabella Wall designated Representative of the Secretary of State of Tourism of Dominican Republic

The assignment
To create initiatives and platforms to promote the  Dominican Republic as a vacation destination and a  productions location for the television and film  industries.    Born and raised in the Dominican Republic and now  based out of Los Angeles, Isabella is a member of the  Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a writer,  actress and entrepreneur. Her acting credits include ER,  Nip Tuck and Days Of Our Lives.     In recent years Isabella realized the need for family  encouragement in the lives of teenage girls and created  an advocate platform for quinceañeras, the Latina  coming of age celebration of the fifteenth birthday,  hugely popular among Hispanics in the US including  Mexicans and Dominican-Americans.     Isabella became the spokesperson for the quinceañera  industry when she was named “Fairy Godmother of  quinceañeras” by the Latin media and has been  compared to Ann Landers for Hispanic girls. Her  mission, promoting that this once in a lifetime event is a  trans-cultural celebration in the United States and an  important way to bring families together.

Isabella is the co-author along with husband Marty Wall, of “Chasing Rubi, The truth about Porfirio Rubirosa, the last playboy”; the first English published biography about the Dominican playboy-diplomat rumored to have been Ian Fleming’s inspiration for James Bond, recently featured on History Channel international and soon to be turned into a movie. www.ChasingRubi.com    In her book, Isabella describes the Dominican Republic as “the new St. Bart, where one sometimes can see the likes of Bill Clinton, Oscar De La Renta, Julio Iglesias, Brad and Angelina, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Oscar de la Hoya and Sammy Sosa, strolling about the beautiful beaches, where tourism and luxury home construction are booming. Wealthy Americans are flocking there in droves because, though the Caribbean remains crystal blue as it always was, the sunsets are as stunning as ever, and the lush tropical landscape still beckons”.   In Isabella’s opinion, “discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, the island of Hispaniola AKA Quisqueya by the native Taino Indians, is still not completely uncovered. There are coves still hidden and white foamy waves that look more like lazy fluffy feathered seagulls, lying along the sandy shores, that need to be exposed. The dollar still goes a long way in this heavenly paradise and we are looking forward to shooting many important movie scenes that may announce to the world, “Just call us the DR, that’s who we are”.

Dodger legend Fernando Valenzuela to be honored at inaugural “Premios Deportes” sports awards today - “Premios Deportes” will air nationally on Univision Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m. ET/PT

“National Spanish-language television network Univision will honor Dodger Legend Fernando Valenzuela at the first annual “Premios Deportes” today at 8 p.m. The awards show will be broadcasted nationally this Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m. on Univision. Valenzuela will be honored as one of the most prominent Hispanic athletes in history with a lifetime achievement award, “Premio Leyenda Deportiva.”

Prior to the ceremony, Valenzuela will partake in a celebrity-filled red carpet celebration at the historic Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena at 7 p.m. Hispanic sports stars who will appear alongside Valenzuela include famed boxer Oscar de la Hoya, legendary Mexican soccer goalie Jorge Campos, retired NFL player Tony Casillas, NFL Hall of Fame recipient Anthony Muñoz, former Mexican soccer coach Jesús Bracamontes, and legendary Mexican forward Enrique Borja.

One of the most storied players in Los Angeles Dodger history, pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, became the only person in Major League history to win both the Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Awards in the same season (1981). The 20 year-old was an emergency starter on Opening Day because of injuries to Jerry Reuss and Burt Hooton, but a complete-game 2-0 victory that afternoon in front of 55,000 at Dodger Stadium against the Houston Astros became the start of “Fernandomania.” Valenzuela began the campaign with an 8-0 record, including five shutouts, and by the summer was the guest of the White House in Washington D.C. at a reception hosted by the president of Mexico. Valenzuela helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 1981 and overall won 141 games with Los Angeles through 1990.

Valenzuela is now in his sixth season as a Dodger Spanish-language broadcaster. He serves as the color commentator on the Dodgers’ Spanish-radio broadcasts on KHJ/La Ranchera 930 AM alongside colleagues Pepe Yñiguez and Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrín.

Univision Radio personality Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, Univision’s Fernando Fiore of “República Deportiva,” and popular novela actress Angélica Vale will host the “Premios Deportes” gala event. “Premios Deportes” honor Hispanic athletes in ten different categories who have been selected for their character, talent and perseverance, as well as their contributions to and impact on the Hispanic community. “Premios Deportes” will air this Sunday, July 20 locally at 3 p.m. on KMEX-TV channel 34.”*

De La Hoya brings heavyweight class to Houston

“Needing to catch a flight back to the United States, Oscar De La Hoya had been bombarded by dozens of repetitive questions, and he was starting to get slightly irked by constantly having to spell out details of a November fight involving one of his boxers, British light welterweight Ricky Hatton.

The creases immediately dropped from De La Hoya’s brow when the subject switched to the Houston Dynamo.

In another step in the expansion of his burgeoning business, De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions acquired a significant stake in the two-time defending MLS Cup champions earlier this year. He could not wait to share some of his soccer philosophy.”*

“The term, I admit, resists translation, but it kept running through my mind the other evening at The Home Depot Center. Cinco de Hoya.

It wasn’t a fight as much as it was a festival, with the Hispanic community, plus assorted others, gathering to express an appreciation for what Oscar De La Hoya has meant to it with his skills and with his dignity. I want to emphasize that word dignity. De La Hoya possesses it. Few in boxing do. Where is the sport going to be without him? Nowhere, I suspect.”*

“It was a boxing news conference, which meant lots of boasts and bling. Fighters have played this stage for as long as they have been doing roadwork. They know how to fling the bling.

But this one was a little different. Oscar De La Hoya was surrounded by representatives of a major airline, a beer company and a liquor manufacturer Wednesday at the MGM Grand for some midweek theater before his junior-middleweight fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Saturday night. “

Golden Boy and DIGA Entertainment Partner with Epana to Promote May 5th de la Hoya/Mayweather Fight to Hispanics via Phonecards

“Golden Boy Promotions and DIGA Entertainment have partnered with Epana Networks, Inc. to promote the historic May 5th HBO Pay-Per-View fight between Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather in more than 30,000 Hispanic neighborhood stores utilizing Epana’s Kare Distribution sales and marketing channel to deliver over two million prepaid phone cards. The promotion makes use of a new and exclusive distribution network created by Epana that is revolutionizing how information and products are delivered to Hispanic consumers at the places they shop, work and live across the USA.

HOW DOES IT WORK:

The use of pre-paid phone cards is ubiquitous in the Hispanic community. Purchased primarily at small neighborhood markets known as tiendas or bodegas, phone cards are used multiple times by each consumer and reside in the consumer’s wallet for up to a week. In many cases the same type of phone card is being purchased repeatedly by the same consumer residing in its wallet for many months. Each time a card is used, it delivers a phone prompt that can be customized by market or offering to provide a unique promotional message. Since early March, Epana’s network of 30,000 tiendas were targeted to receive merchandise, promotional materials, and two million special edition BOXEO phone cards containing information about the HBO Pay-Per-View Fight. This is a potential of ten million messages delivered straight to the eyes and ears of hard-to-reach Hispanic consumers.

Rudy Perez, DIGA Entertainment’s Chief Creative Officer and a Grammy-winning music producer who had produced de la Hoya’s debut album, brought the partners together. CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, Richard Schaefer, said “Leveraging Oscar de la Hoya’s personality and reputation with the Hispanic market in the run-up to one of the most important fights of his career has always been important to Oscar and to the Golden Boy organization. This was an opportunity to gain direct access to millions of Hispanic fans that we could not ignore.”

In making the announcement, Perez remarked, “This is the first large use of the Epana system and market reach to provide a new approach for the delivery of quality information and culturally appealing products to millions of hard-to-reach Hispanics in the US.”

“Epana sells millions of cards weekly to a network of 30,000 stores, and is rated by users as one of the most reliable card companies in the country,” Steve Smith, DIGA’s COO said. “DIGA has the exclusive right to market and promote entertainment products like this one through this massive network. We have just begun to experiment with putting entertainment products through the system, and the results have been extraordinary. We believe this will be the new model for marketing and promotion in the Latin entertainment business.”

Epana, through its Kare Distribution subsidiary, is bringing its full suite of sales, marketing and technical organizational capabilities to support the BOXEO launch. As part of the promotion, Epana developed multiple promotions in major markets across the US supporting the promotions with retail merchandising, grass roots marketing, consumer promotions, customized call-flow messages, on-pack advertising, media promotions and a grand prize of airfare, hotel and tickets to the May 5th fight in Las Vegas.

DIGA Entertainment Inc. is a leading Latin entertainment marketing and promotions company providing world class management, marketing, merchandising, distribution, production and sponsorship services. For more information, go to www.digaentertainment.com / 305-695-0263.

Epana Networks is a leading marketing, technology and diversified services company focused on the US Hispanic consumer. For more information, go to www.epana.com or call 212-931-8738.

Los Angeles-based Golden Boy Promotions was established in 2001 by Oscar De La Hoya, the first Hispanic to own a national boxing promotional company. In 2006, their fifth year of promoting, Golden Boy Promotions broke a record by selling over $2 million in pay-per-views. Golden Boy Promotions is also one of boxing’s most active and respected promoters, presenting shows in packed venues around the United States on networks such as HBO, HBO Latino, Telefutura and ESPN. Golden Boy Promotions currently has close to 50 fighters under contract, from future hall of famers Bernard Hopkins, Marco Antonio Barrera and Sugar Shane Mosley to current world champions Daniel Ponce De Leon, Jhonny Gonzalez, Juan Manuel Marquez, Fernando Montiel, Israel Vazquez and Joan Guzman. Tags: , , , , , , , , , ,

“ESPN Deportes for the second consecutive year, ESPN Deportes La Revista, the only general sports Spanish-language magazine in the U.S., will unveil its list of the “Next Hispanic Athletes.” The list, to be unveiled in the April issue, features the 14 most outstanding Hispanic young athletes of today who promise to become the sports stars of tomorrow. Florida Martins HANLEY RAMIREZ graces the cover.

The complete list includes CARLOS VELA, considered by many to be the heir to Hugo Sanchez; FRANCISCO GARCIA of the Sacramento Kings; DIEGO SANCHEZ, future UFC champion; Paraguayan golfer JULIETA GRANADA; VERONICA CHARLYN CORRAL, of Mexico’s Under-20 Women’s National Team; AARON HERNANDEZ, first Hispanic to be selected to U.S. Army American Bowl; Chivas USA soccer players DAVID ARVIZU and FRANCISCO MENDOZA; BRYAN ARGUEZ of the U-20 U.S. Men’s National Team; boxer JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ, JR.; professional skateboarder PAUL RODRIGUEZ JR; ROBIN PRENDES, who represented the U.S. in the 2006 FISA Junior World Rowing Championship and Mexican race car driver SALVADOR DURAN.

To celebrate its annual NEXT Hispanic Athletes issue, ESPN Deportes La Revista is hosting the NEXT Hispanic Party at Finnegan’s River in Downtown Miami, Tuesday, March 27.

Also in this Issue:

– Barcelona’s dynamic duo: Lionel Messi and Javier Saviola came to the Spanish club as child prodigies. Although the quality of both players is undeniable, the first has been covered in glory while the second has been relegated to the background and is only now beginning to have a real opportunity on the team. In this article, the Argentinean soccer players reflect on the situation.

– De la Hoya vs. Mayweather Jr. There’s been a lot of talk about what seems to be the final bout between two of the best boxers in recent times. Oscar de la Hoya will be seeking to retire with a grandiose flourish: as the only boxer with ten titles in six divisions, coupled with the defeat of the welterweight champ and pound-for-pound best boxer in the world; meanwhile Floyd Mayweather, Jr. will attempt to spoil the fun for the “Golden Boy.” The two points of view about the most eagerly awaited fight of the year will be featured in our April issue.

– The 10 Reasons to see Major League Baseball. One of the most respected writers on the subject of baseball, Enrique Rojas, conducts an in-depth analysis of what promises to be a history-making season for the Big Leagues. Will Barry Bonds break the home-run record? What can we expect from Daisuke Matsuzaka? Who will Roger Clemens be playing with? The answers to these and many other questions are in the April issue of ESPN Deportes La Revista.

Other interesting subjects:

– The best season ever for Major League Soccer. The difficult years for the U.S. soccer league are over. The hiring of stars such as David Beckham, the building of new stadiums, the expansion towards Canada, and the new talent springing up are some of the indications demonstrating that Major League Soccer is ready to take root and flourish with an audience that had seemed interested only in football and baseball.

– Everything for soccer: After an accident that left his legs paralyzed, Colombian soccer player Diego Fernando Cortes is now fighting - not just to walk again, but to actually return to the soccer field. In our April issue, Cortes himself tells us about his rehab and what he’s planning so he can touch the ball again.

– No criticism: This issue marks the debut of a new section of short interviews with Mexican soccer star Mario Mendez, who tells us how things have gone with his adaptation to Argentinean soccer on the Velez team. “
