"Univision blew away the competition last night as the fifth edition of its "Premios Juventud 2008" youth awards show delivered an average audience of 5.2 million viewers 2+, according to Nielsen's Fast National ratings, and catapulted the network to the #1 ranking for the evening (8:00-11:00 p.m.) among Adults 18-34 (1,910,000) and 18-49 (3,100,000), Persons 12-34 (2,270,000), and Kids 2-11 (690,000). Additionally, 11.2 million people watched some or all of the 3-hour, star-studded telecast.
"Premios Juventud 2008" was also the #1 program of the evening among Adults 18-34, besting such English-language fare on the other networks such as FOX's "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" and "So You Think You Can Dance?," CBS's "Greatest American Dog," "CSI," and "Swingtown," NBC's "Last Comic Standing" and "Fear Itself," and ABC's "Ugly Betty," "Grey's Anatomy," and "Hopkins." It was also the #2 program among Adults 18-49 and, along with Persons 12-34, averaged more viewers in those demos than all of the network programs on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and CW with the exception of FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance?"
The first and only awards show on Spanish-language television that celebrates the preferences of this country's young Hispanics, "Premios Juventud 2008" enjoyed the following significant audience increases compared to last year's telecast:

-- +8% among Men 18-34

Universal Music Group (UMG) Closes Acquisition of Univision Music Group – New Merged Company to be Known as Universal Music Latin Entertainment & Led by Jesus Lopez

"Universal Music Group (UMG), the world's leading music company, today announced that it has completed its acquisition of Univision Music Group following the recent clearance of the deal in the U.S. by the Federal Trade Commission. The acquisition results in UMG becoming the largest Latin music company in North America.

The combined company, which will operate under the Universal Music Latin Entertainment banner, will include Universal Music Latino, Machete, the newly acquired labels from the Univision purchase -- Fonovisa and Disa, Universal Music Mexico & Central America, Latin publishing in the US and Mexico, including the newly acquired Edimonsa, Disa and the Fonovisa catalogs, and GTS Global Talent Services, a management service division. As part of this acquisition, the Univision name will be phased out. Universal Music Latin Entertainment will be a division of Universal Music Latin America, and will be led by Jesus Lopez (currently Chairman & CEO of Latin America and Iberian Peninsula). Mr. Lopez will continue to be based in Miami, Florida and report to Zach Horowitz (President & COO, Universal Music Group) for Universal Music Latin Entertainment."

"President Bush said Friday the national anthem should be sung in English - not Spanish - in a blunt rejection of a new Spanish-language version. He also expressed opposition to a national work stoppage called for Monday to dramatize the importance of immigrants to the U.S. economy. "I'm not a supporter of boycotts," Bush said, while restating his support for a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws. Bush made his comments at a Rose Garden news conference as a Spanish-language version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" hit the airways featuring artists such as Wyclef Jean, hip-hop star Pitbull and Puerto Rican singers Carlos Ponce and Olga Tanon."
