Each year the National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) seeks nominations for those outstanding individuals, businesses, non-profits, educational institutions, and companies whose endeavors coincide with the NHSMBA mission and directly benefit the advancement and recognition of Hispanics and the Hispanic communities across the nation.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20110218/MM50611)

Their efforts are lauded with the Brillante Awards for Excellence, the most prestigious honor given by NSHMBA, and presented to the winning recipients during the organization's Annual Conference & Career Expo, being held this year in Anaheim, Calif., October 13-15.

Nominations open April 1 and continue through May 16. And though the spirit of the award remains unchanged, participants of this year's process will see a few changes to the 2011 categories.

Award categories include:

Brillante Award for Excellence: Founder's Circle
Brillante Award for Corporate Excellence
Brillante Award for Educational Excellence
Brillante Award for Member Excellence
Brillante Award for Community Service Excellence

New for this year is the award, Founder's Circle. This category recognizes an individual who has distinguished his or herself through lifetime achievements and contributions to the Hispanic community at large. Candidates will be requested to submit their bios and any other necessary information summarizing their accomplishments. This is the only category of the Brillante Awards for Excellence that does not accept nominations, including self-nominations, and instead are selected and awarded by the original NSHMBA founders and current CEO.

"Though the winners' efforts speak for themselves, and the Hispanic community on a daily basis sees the results of their labors and in many cases benefit because of them, it's important to recognize these individuals and companies for the great work," said Manny Gonzalez, NSHMBA CEO. "Important because it's inspirational; important because within the circle their efforts affect, it's motivational; and important because no good deed should ever go unnoticed. This is the spirit behind the Brillante Awards for Excellence and what it's all about."

The National Society of Hispanic MBAs established the Brillante Awards for Excellence in 1989, and is given to bright, radiant, and shining leaders who illuminate the paths for many ambitious MBAs, while radiating positive energy to encourage and motivate others. In addition to the gala, winners receive a custom designed award; a seal to post on their website; recognition on the NSHMBA website, its official publications, Hispanic MBA magazine and The Bottom Line newsletter; and in national press releases.

On September 1, 2010, the newest leader to head the National Society of Hispanic MBAs took office as Chief Executive Officer.

Manuel 'Manny' Gonzalez, who most recently served as principal with consulting firm Mango Entertainment, and previously as CEO of the Zoological Society of Florida and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and as vice president and general manager of Six Flags Inc. before accepting the position with NSHMBA, is best known for his ability to increase sales and revenues, streamline operations, and build creative and successful marketing plans.

These abilities, combined with a history of success, make Mr. Gonzalez an ideal candidate for the Hispanic non-profit and an obvious choice of its Board of Directors.

"We're very excited to be under the new leadership and vision of Manuel Gonzalez, and the Board of Directors feels his experience will further continue the direction and course outlined under the many new strategies and goals recently announced," said Mark Ponce, NSHMBA's BOD Chairman. "NSHMBA has had 22 years of success and under the new leadership and direction of Mr. Gonzalez, everyone from members to sponsors will benefit from his integrity, passion, determination and optimism."

The next chapter in Mr. Gonzalez's career offers a new and promising challenge that he too reciprocates and feels will benefit NSHMBA members and stakeholders alike.

"I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to lead NSHMBA, and look forward to driving innovation, partnerships and helping increase the number of Hispanics graduating from MBA schools," said Mr. Gonzalez. "NSHMBA is led by an impressive and passionate board with a vision to become the premier organization for Hispanic business professionals and I am honored to have been given this opportunity."

Mr. Gonzalez permanently stepped in as CEO, September 1, replacing Interim CEO Steven Ramos, who will return to his role as a member of the NSHMBA Board of Directors, while also serving as consultant to the new CEO during his transition into the new office. Mr. Ramos has served for NSHMBA in many capacities over his long career with the organization, starting as a chapter president and then later as a member of its Board of Directors.
