Lourdes Almeida, a renowned Mexican photographer, will capture this powerful image depicting generations of heritage from the very old to the very young. Almeida’s work has been featured in more than 100 solo exhibitions in major museums throughout Mexico, Latin America, the United States, Europe and Asia.

The photograph will be taken on Plaza Olvera, located within the El Pueblo Historic Monument in Los Angeles. Known as the birthplace of the City of Los Angeles, El Pueblo Historic Monument celebrates Mexican culture and reflects the historical significance of the event.

“The Mexican Bicentennial is a proud day for Mexicans and people of Mexican descent all over the world,” said Emiliano Escobedo, Marketing Director, Avocados from Mexico. “We are thrilled to be organizing and sponsoring 200 Faces, 200 Years, featuring Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles and memorializing this historic day for years to come.”

The photo will serve as a historical account of the Bicentennial in Los Angeles and will be preserved and shared for generations. There are plans to donate reprints of 200 Faces, 200 Years, to cultural institutions and local organizations to provide an opportunity for the community to view and appreciate the photo.

To participate in 200 Faces, 200 Years, Mexicans and Mexican-Americans born on September 16th can log on to www.avocados.com/photo or submit their name, birthdate, email address, phone number and a photo to: Avocados from Mexico, c/o CRT/tanaka, 8733 Sunset Blvd., Suite 205, Los Angeles, CA 90069.

In addition to 200 Faces, 200 Years, Avocados from Mexico will have a float in the Bicentennial Parade in East Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12.

Avocados originated in Mexico and have been perfected over generations. Central Mexico’s sun-drenched climate, fertile, rich soil and abundant rainfall combine to create a naturally creamy avocado, prized by chefs as the world’s finest. Mexico is the world leader in growing and eating avocados as well as the only place in the world where a single avocado tree blooms naturally up to four times a year, resulting in a creamy and fresh tasting avocado that’s in season year round.
