Stellar Evening With Award Ceremony and Special Screening at the 12th Annual Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival Closing Night in Hollywood

“The 12th Annual Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) came to a close last evening with an award ceremony celebrating filmmakers that have submitted their films from countries all over the world. Guests were also treated to an advanced feature film screening at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood.
The red carpet studded event included appearances by Gustavo Santaolalla, Demian Bechir, Carina Ricco, Alexa Vega, Maya Zapata, Lupe Ontiveros and other invited celebrity guests. Awards were given in categories like Opera Prima, Features, Documentaries and Short Films along with the results of the anticipated Audience Award. The following includes a list of the winners for the 12th Annual Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival:

Following the award ceremony, select audience of filmmakers, celebrities and important decision makers of the industry were able to enjoy an advanced screening of “Nothing Like the Holidays” not due for release until November.
“We are please to continue showcasing the talented work of Latino filmmakers and their contributions to the world cinema,” stated Marlene Dermer, co founder and executive director of the festival. “This night celebrates the films that have made this festival possible and we look forward to a successful festival next year.”
The closing festivities successfully conclude the 12th year of LALIFF where more than 130+ films were showcased.

Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival: Argentina’s ‘disappeared’ in the spotlight

Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival officials have honored Argentinian musician Gustavo Santaolalla with one of their top prizes.

Rosalba Ruiz, a staff writer at the Orange County Register, helped produce the new film “Alondra Smiles,” about the celebrations two teen girls have for their 15th birthdays. It has been selected for the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival.

Friday marks the start of the 12th annual Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, which runs through Sept. 19, and will screen a diverse selection of films, shorts and documentaries by Latino filmmakers from the United States, Latin America, Central America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal.

“Cine Latino, the leading Spanish-language premium film channel in the United States, makes its debut sponsorship of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF) by presenting the 2008 LALIFF Cine Latino Audience Award.

Following each of the more than 100 films that will be screened at the festival, the audience will have the opportunity to rate the film on a
four-point scale. The 2008 LALIFF Cine Latino Audience Award will be assigned to the highest-rated film based on audience feedback during the Closing Gala on Friday, September 19, 2008.
