"For the eighth consecutive year, American Airlines has been selected as one of LATINA Style's Top 50 companies for Latinas to work for in the United States. The magazine's annual survey serves as the most respected source of employment and career information for Hispanic women.

"Every year LATINA Style carefully evaluates over 800 corporations to choose the 50 best companies for Latinas to work for in the U.S.," said Robert Bard, President & CEO of LATINA Style Magazine. "Our survey is a highly regarded source of employment and career information for Hispanic women in our country. The Selection Committee was impressed by American Airlines well-documented commitment to creating an environment where all employees can thrive. I congratulate American Airlines for their eighth consecutive year on the LATINA Style Top 50!"

Selected from a pool of more than 800 U.S. corporations, the Top 50 winners take on a new dimension this year in the face of a challenging economic climate, the magazine said. The companies represented truly demonstrate their firm commitment to diversity, even as others in corporate America reevaluate diversity initiatives.

"We are honored to have been selected among so many other respected organizations to the LATINA Style 50," said Denise Lynn, American's Vice President - Diversity and Leadership Strategies. "This analysis by LATINA Style magazine is one of the most prestigious looks at corporate America's efforts to promote diversity and provide career advancement opportunities for Hispanic women. We are delighted to be recognized for our accomplishments in this area, and we're committed to maintaining our focus on the professional development of Latina women within our company."
The results of the LATINA Style 50 were unveiled at a press conference today at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., and will be published in LATINA Style's August issue.

The LATINA Style 50 Companies will also be honored on Feb. 4, 2010, during LATINA Style's Awards Ceremony & Diversity Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., and recognized at an exclusive awards reception at the White House. This year marks the eighth consecutive year that American has received the distinction.

The report will be distributed to Hispanic professional and civic organizations, national women's organizations, over 2,000 colleges and universities, all members of Congress, the White House, and members of the Cabinet, as well as at major Hispanic and recruitment conferences. The LATINA Style 50 is also a permanent feature on www.latinastyle.com. This year marks the 12th anniversary of the program.

"Kaiser Permanente has been ranked No. 1 by LATINA Style magazine on the publication's list of the 50 Best Companies for Latinas to Work for in the United States.

The LATINA Style survey, now in its 12th year, is an annual evaluation of corporate America's appreciation for the value of diversity in the workplace, and identifies the corporations in the United States that are providing the best career opportunities for Latinas. Kaiser Permanente was among 800 organizations included in the extensive research.

"It's an honor to be recognized by LATINA Style," said Ronald Knox, senior vice president and chief diversity officer at Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. "To deliver the kind of member experience needed to remain a leader in an increasingly competitive and diverse marketplace, our employees must reflect the communities we serve. At Kaiser Permanente, understanding our members' needs and speaking their languages is simply how we do business."

Companies are evaluated based on workplace issues that LATINA Style readers identified as most important to them. Among the principal areas of evaluation are: number of Latina executives, mentoring programs, Latina board members, educational opportunities, alternative work policies, dependent/child care support, employee benefits, women's issues, job retraining, affinity groups and Latina relations.

The LATINA Style 50 Companies will be honored on Feb. 4, 2010, during LATINA Style's Awards Ceremony & Diversity Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., and recognized at an exclusive awards reception at the White House.

Today, Kaiser Permanente's employee and physician workforce of 181,000 is 74 percent female and 56 percent people of color, mirroring and exceeding the racial, ethnic and gender composition of its health plan membership and the communities it serves. Kaiser Permanente's board of directors also is diverse; its membership is 21 percent Black, 14.5 percent Latino, 14.5 percent Asian American and 36 percent women, making it one of the most ethnically and gender-diverse boards in the country.

Earlier this year, Kaiser Permanente was ranked No. 1 in the fourth annual 50 Out Front for Diversity Leadership: Best Places for Diverse Managers to Work by DiversityMBA Magazine. Kaiser Permanente also was named the 2009 Corporation of the Year by the Hispanic College Fund and will be honored at the publication's 16th annual gala, to be held on Oct 30 at the J.W.

"LATINA Style, the premier magazine addressing the needs of professional Latinas in the U.S., will host the 6th annual National LATINA Symposium on Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the J.W. Marriot Hotel in Washington D.C. from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. The Symposium provides a national platform for Latina entrepreneurs and professional working women to address the status of the Hispanic woman in the United States.

The Honorable Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) is this year's Honorary Chair. Congresswoman Sanchez is a recognized leader on national security, intelligence, and counterterrorism issues. She also serves as the Vice Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Border, Maritime, and Global Counterterrorism. "This year's Symposium comes at an exciting time in history with the recent confirmation of our new Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Sonia Sotomayor," said Congresswoman Sanchez. The Symposium will give Latinas from across the country the opportunity to share their stories of struggle and opportunity and provide the needed resources to continue to advance in the workplace. I am honored to serve as the Honorary Chairwoman of this event, which I hope will help give Hispanic women the tools they need to empower themselves and their families," the Congresswoman added.

The Symposium will feature three exciting panels: "Leadership Under Fire," led by the most successful Latinas in the military, will offer guidance and advice on leadership and self development. This is an opportunity for all branches to work together and build each other up. Learn how success and power can positively impact your community and inspire others. Followed by "Nurturing Latina Success." Rising to the top is a difficult balancing act. This is a can't-miss opportunity to learn how successful Latinas have made headway against the challenges and politics of corporate America. And culminating with "Your Health - Your Future." Here, industry experts will demystify healthcare reform. Heath issues continue to disproportionately impact many aspects of a Latina professional's life. We will address these in detail and provide a roadmap for a healthier lifestyle. These groundbreaking workshops will feature some of the most prominent Latina Leaders in the nation. The event is open to the public and media and attended by Latinas from corporate America, the government, and military.

The Symposium will conclude with the Distinguished Military Service Awards Luncheon, co-hosted with the Department of Defense. During the Distinguished Military Service Awards Luncheon, LATINA Style presents the only national awards program honoring Latinas serving in the Armed Forces. We are proud to honor ten Latina military members and Department of Defense (DoD) civilian employees who supported the DoD mission, the global war on terrorism, and demonstrated role model qualities and the core values of their respective Military Service and Agency.

The day will conclude with the LATINA Style flagship event, the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund Awards & Gala. This unique event, a tribute to the memory and vision of our founder Anna Maria Arias, marks the 15th anniversary of LATINA Style Magazine, and will launch Washington's Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. Our awards will provide senior executive education grants to selected Latina business owners from across the country that have distinguished themselves through their business success and their community involvement. The award recipients will be showcased during the Gala Awards Dinner taking place from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm in Washington, D.C. on September 9, 2009, at the J.W. Marriott located at 1331 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C. 2004.

The 2009 National LATINA Symposium sponsors are Department of Defense, State Farm Insurance, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Sam's Club, Shell, the United States Navy and UnitedHealthcare, Inc. Official Airline Carrier: South West Airlines.

"Latina Style Magazine, the premier magazine addressing the needs of established Latinas & Women entrepreneurs in the U.S has partnered with Doctor.com. In September of 2008, Latina Style Magazine in connection with iWeev launched the Latina Style Health Care website (http://www.health.latinastyle.com) to become the leading health information provider for the professional Latina. Because Latina professionals dedicate much of their time to their careers and families the website is committed to creating tools that will help readers better manage their health care needs and the health care needs of their families. The Latina Style Health care website also features a segment called “Latinas in Healthcare: Addressing Disparity”, highlighting Latinas that are making a difference in their field of study.

“We hope to bring light to an important topic in our community as disparity by ethnicity is believed to result from complex interactions among genetic variations, environmental factors, and specific health behaviors” said Martita Mestey, Owner of iWeev.

The partnership with Doctor.com, which was pioneered and managed by iWeev, a website offering the most comprehensive multicultural online solutions, connecting like-minded organizations to work together on concrete actions that expand their access and knowledge potential, will give LATINA Style subscribers a remarkably easy-to-use physician directory that lets consumers quickly find a doctor or other health care professional.

Doctor.com's proprietary database includes detailed profiles for more than a million physicians, dentists, nurses, chiropractors, therapists, alternative medicine practitioners and other health professionals. Users can search the directory to find providers who match criteria such as medical specialty, health insurance affiliation, board certification, gender, etc. Recently the company launched the first nationwide doctor search API, allowing any approved website to easily integrate Doctor.com’s comprehensive search capabilities at no cost.

“We’re very excited to have Latina Style Health as one of our first API partners,” said Andrei Zimiles, General Manager of Doctor.com, “iWeev did a fantastic job with the integration and we’re confident that the Latina Style community will find our embedded doctor search features to be of value.”

"The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has received honorable mention in the LATINA Style Magazine 50 Awards, considered to be the most respected evaluation of corporate America's career development opportunities for Hispanic women. AAFES' Karen Stack, senior vice president of the military retailer's western region, will accept the award, on behalf of the Department of Defense's oldest and largest exchange service, at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 5.

"AAFES is proud to be recognized as a diversity leader as it mirrors the military members it serves," stated AAFES Director of Diversity Jeanne McDonald. "The LATINA Style award further validates AAFES' importance placed on diversity in the workforce."

More than 800 of the most prominent corporations in the US were included in the search and evaluated based on issues that LATINA Style readers identified as most important to them in the workplace. Among the principal areas of evaluation for recognition were number of Latina executives, mentoring programs, Latina board members, educational opportunities, alternative work policies, dependent/child care support, employee benefits, women's issues, job retraining, affinity groups and Hispanic relations.

The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is a joint command and is directed by a Board of Directors which is responsible to the Secretaries of the Army and the Air Force through the Service Chiefs of Staff. AAFES has the dual mission of providing authorized patrons with articles of merchandise and services and generating non-appropriated fund earnings as a supplemental source of funding for military Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs.

"LATINA Style magazine has named Kraft Foods (NYSE: KFT) one of the top 50 companies for professional Hispanic women in the United States. The award recognizes companies that excel in Latina representation in senior positions, leadership and mentoring programs for Hispanics and progressive employee benefits.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080605/AQTH531LOGO)

"Diversity and inclusion are part of our growth strategy," said Irene Rosenfeld, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Our consumers are diverse, so having a diverse perspective enables us to see first-hand how we can better meet their needs with innovative, high-quality products."

"We're honored to be among the top 50 companies for Latinas," said Anne Alonzo, Vice President, Corporate Affairs. "We recognize the growing influence of Latinas and applaud their significant accomplishments and successes." Earlier this month, Latina Style featured Kraft at its National LATINA Symposium in Washington, D.C., where Alonzo joined other prominent Latinas at a workshop focused on "Achieving Your Potential."

Building a Culture Where the Best Want to Work
Kraft's commitment to maintain a diverse workforce and attract the talent needed to fuel the company's growth goes beyond brochures and seminars. As part of its ongoing efforts to build a culture where the best talent wants to work, Kraft has expanded diversity training and developed innovative programs to help women advance. A great example is the company's Efficacy for Women program, where participants identify their own career goals and develop the specific steps to achieve them.

In addition, Kraft's employee councils have been re-energized. To help these groups grow, each member of the company's executive team sponsors one of the ten councils in the United States, Canada and Latin America. For example, Kraft's Hispanic Employee Council and the Kraft Latin America Women's Council develop strategies to meet their members' development needs and support their advancement in the organization. Also, these groups advise management on how to leverage a diverse workforce to meet business goals.

Kraft's commitment extends beyond the workplace. The company has partnered with the National Latino Children's Institute to develop Salsa, Sabor y Salud to address nutrition and obesity issues among U.S. Latino families. "

"Ryder is proud to be recognized for our diversity initiatives," said Ryder Chairman and CEO Greg Swienton. "Over the past five years, we have grown our business from a $4.7 billion company to a $6.6 billion company. Our commitment to diversity has strengthened, and we strongly believe there is a direct correlation between our diverse employees and our business success. We cultivate a talented, diverse workforce, and we welcome the contributions of Latina women as part of that workforce."
The 2008 LATINA Style 50 is determined from a survey of the Fortune 1000 companies on initiatives that promote diversity and career advancement opportunities for Hispanic women. The survey was originally developed and first launched in 1998 with the assistance of the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and national Hispanic organizations. Leadership programs, employee benefits and Latina representation in senior positions are among the criteria used to evaluate the diversity at each company through the survey. Over 800 companies are evaluated.
"Slowly but surely, Latinas continue to make progress in climbing the corporate ladder," said LATINA Style Publisher Robert Bard. "However, we still have a long way to go to achieve parity. As the only national Latina publication focusing on the needs and aspirations of professional Latinas, we have a duty to keep Hispanic women informed about corporate America's best employment practices. We have gone to great lengths to provide a reliable resource for Latinas to evaluate companies, so they can be confident that the 2008 LATINA Style 50 truly represents some of the best opportunities corporate America has to offer."
The LATINA Style 50 Companies will be honored February 5, 2009, during the LATINA Style Awards Ceremony & Diversity Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., and recognized at an exclusive awards reception at the White House. "

"LATINA Style Magazine, the premier magazine addressing the needs of Latina professionals in the United States, is pleased to announce an innovative collaboration with Dartmouth College's Tuck School of Business. LATINA Style will provide ten executive business education grants for Latina entrepreneurs, to be given to this year's winners of the Annual Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund, and to be presented in our Nation's Capital on September, 5, 2008.

These grants will help to assure that ten of the Nation's highest-potential Latina entrepreneurs will be able to attend Tuck School's flagship executive program, Building a High-Performing Minority Business. The program helps business owners take their company to the next level, creating more wealth and more jobs in their communities.

Since its establishment in 2002, the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund has been the most respected and coveted business award program for Latina business owners in the United States. The Fund was created to recognize the accomplishments of Anna Maria Arias, the late founder and editor of LATINA Style Magazine. Her drive and mission to empower Hispanic women is one of the true legacies in the Hispanic community. The Fund celebrates this spirit of entrepreneurship that was Anna Maria's vision and that today serves to fuel the phenomenal growth of the Latina business sector.

Created in the spirit of Anna Maria Arias' vision for Latinas in the business sector, this fund was designed to celebrate the perseverance and commitment that marked Anna Maria's life. She was a pioneer as a publisher, businesswoman and champion of entrepreneurship. The fund provides these educational grants to selected Latina business owners from across the country who exemplify those business practices and principles that Anna Maria championed.

"When you are looking to jump start your business and take it to the next level of success, the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund could be available to help you achieve your goals," stated Robert Bard, President and CEO of LATINA Style Inc. "When we started these awards we knew that the goal was to make long-term, transformational impact on our women business owners ... now through this collaboration with the Tuck School of Business, the Fund will provide a world class learning experience to create innovative, strategic business leaders!"

Since 1980, the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth has been the leader in helping minority business executives succeed in perfecting and growing their businesses. Among the school's more than 4,500 minority graduates are some of the nation's most celebrated success stories. The Tuck School, rated the number one business school by both The Wall Street Journal and Forbes, provides world-class faculty and high-quality, high-impact intensive learning experiences that are specifically tailored to the needs of minority-owned businesses. The grant awardees will gain the business tools that today's Latina needs to compete effectively in the increasingly challenging global marketplace, and position her company for increased profits and for breakthrough growth.

"Tuck is committed to the growth and development of the Latina business community," said Professor Leonard Greenhalgh, Tuck's Director of Programs for Minority- and Women-Owned Businesses. "We commend LATINA Style Magazine and the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund Awards Program for their vision and their very significant commitment to the development of Latina business owners through a unique and innovative collaboration with the Tuck School. These educational scholarships will accelerate the progress of the award winners."

The deadline for these awards is August 15, 2008. The grant recipients will be showcased during a gala awards dinner at this year's LATINA Style Annual Symposium taking place in Washington, DC on September 5th, 2008, at the Washington Hilton Hotel in our nation's capital.

"LATINA Style Magazine, the premier magazine addressing the needs of Latina professionals in the United States, is pleased to announce the availability of ten (10) executive business education grants for Latina entrepreneurs.

"We started these awards more than 6 years ago ... we are now entering our seventh year, and the Fund has helped dozens of Latinas grow their companies. The awards have made a difference in the lives of dozens of Latina entrepreneurs, ensuring that business dreams become a reality ... one woman at a time!"

We look forward to receiving hundreds of applications this year. The grant recipients will be showcased during a gala awards dinner at this year's LATINA Style Annual Symposium taking place in Washington, DC on September 5, 2008, at the Washington Hilton Hotel in our nation's capital. For more information or to apply for the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund visit http://www. latinastyle.com or call 1-800-651-8083.
