Latinos’ Best Shines at 5th Annual Premios Fox Sports Presented by DHL

“Sports teams and athletes from Argentina have plenty to celebrate tonight as they dominated the fifth anniversary edition of Fox Pan American Sports’ (FPAS) Premios Fox Sports presented by DHL with six major award wins and numerous special recognitions. The biggest individual winner of the night was Juan Román Riquelme of Argentina’s Boca Juniors with wins for “Best Goal of Copa Toyota Libertadores” and “Best Latin American Soccer Player.” International golf superstar Lorena Ochoa scored Mexico’s second “Athlete of the Year” award in a row and the second in the category for a female athlete in the show’s history.

Puerto Rican boxer Miguel Cotto earned his third consecutive “Outstanding Boxer” award, while South Florida’s María Mansur (Tennis) of Flanagan High School and South Broward High School’s Alberto Benarroch (Soccer and Water Polo) were named the inaugural “Latino Student Athletes of the Year.”

Hosted by Kate del Castillo and Cristian de la Fuente, celebrities from the world of Latin American sports and entertainment gathered tonight at the star-studded fifth anniversary edition of Premios Fox Sports presented by DHL at The Fillmore Miami Beach at The Jackie Gleason Theater in beautiful Miami Beach. The show will be telecast to more than 33 million households throughout the United States by Fox Sports en Español and in Latin America by Fox Sports Latin America on December 16.

Fans across the Americas participated in this year’s event by casting more than half a million votes online at the official Premios Fox Sports Web site (www.premiosfoxsports.msn.com) presented by DHL and in partnership with MSN or through T-Mobile-sponsored standard text messaging for Viewer’s Choice Awards recognizing the best goals scored during the 2007 editions of Fox Sports en Español and Fox Sports Latin America’s exclusive soccer tournaments. The musical line-up for the fifth annual Premios Fox Sports was kicked off by Latin Grammy winner and salsa legend Gilberto Santa Rosa’s live performance of “Conteo regresivo.” Latin Grammy-nominated pop trio Camila performed from their hit debut album “Todo Cambió,” followed by 2007 Latin Grammy Best New Artists Jesse & Joy. Pop sensation the world over RBD closed the show with two electrifying performances, including “Inalcanzable” and “Besame sin miedo.”

“MTV Latin America announced today the nominees for the sixth annual “Los Premios MTV Latin America 2007.” Mexican pop artist Belinda tops the list with five nominations, followed by Spain’s Alejandro Sanz and Argentina’s Babasonicos with four nominations. Mexico’s Division Minuscula, Julieta Venegas, Mana, Panda, and Paulina Rubio, together with Argentina’s Gustavo Cerati and Miranda! and Chile’s Kudai follow with three nominations each. In addition, pop superstar Hilary Duff signs on to perform live at the show. The event will air from El Palacio de Los Deportes in Mexico City, on Thursday, October 18th at 11:00 p.m. ET (10:00 p.m. Mexico, 11:00 p.m. Argentina and Chile).

“Los Premios MTV Latin America” brings together a variety of regional and local Latin American pop and rock artists, as well as international acts to reflect the music and attitude of youth in Latin America today. This year marks the second time the annual awards ceremony will take place in Mexico City. The event will air live on MTV Latin America to more than 24 countries. In addition, it will be seen on MTV Tr3s and MTV2 in the U.S., reaching an additional 90 million households. It will also be available on other MTVs around the world, as well as on various select broadcast stations throughout Latin America, details of which will be announced.

“Los Premios MTV” is the biggest musical celebration of the year for our fans in the region,” commented Jose Tillan, Senior Vice President of Creative, Content and Music for MTV Networks Latin America. “This year’s nominee line- up reflects our audience’s diverse taste and speaks to the incredible talent in Latin America. As always, we are delighted to be able to offer an extremely musical platform to showcase and bring together such a wide variety of established and up and coming talent in a fun an irreverent manner that only MTV can do”.

This year, pop superstar Hilary Duff will fire up the audience joining previously announced chart topper Avril Lavigne, Cafe Tacvba and internationally renowned The Cure, to perform live in the premiere celebration of local and international music in Latin America. In 2007, Duff released her third album, Dignity which reached the top five in the U.S. and Canada, the top twenty in Australia and the top forty in the UK. Her first single from this album, “With Love”, made the U.S. Hot 100 hit list and topped Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Additional performers and presenters for Los Premios MTV 2007 will be announced shortly.

This year’s show adds three new award categories, including the “Fashionista Award,” for best dressed celebrity; “Best Urban Artist Award” for best R&B, rap, hip hop or reggaeton; and the “Influencia Award” honoring an artist for their influence and trajectory in the music industry.

The nominees in 19 of the total 23 categories were selected by a combination of MTV viewers and industry professionals; while the nominees in the four remaining categories were selected by a specialized panel of MTV Latin America executives.

VOTING THROUGHOUT LATIN AMERICA

Starting September 12th through October 5th, 2007, the winners of “Los Premios MTV 2007″ will be selected by MTV Latin American viewers, who will cast their votes online at MTVla.com or via their cell phones by sending the text message VOTA to 33933 in Mexico and VOTA to 25252 in the rest of Latin America. The winners for the categories of “Best Independent Artist”, “Promising Artist”, and “Influencia” will be selected by a Los Premios committee of MTV Music and Talent executives. Nominees for the “Fashionista Award” will be selected live during the red carpet arrivals by a fashion expert; and the winner will be chosen by viewers online during the show and announced in the online post show.

VOTING IN THE U.S.

This year, MTV Tr3s has expanded its Viewer Choice Awards from one to three categories: Best Pop Artist, Best New Artist and Best Urban Artist. Starting September 12th, MTV Tr3s viewers can cast their vote for the “MTV Tr3s Viewers’ Choice Awards” by logging onto lospremios.MTVTr3s.com, calling 1-877-MTVVOTE or by sending a PREMIOS text message to 66333. MTV Tr3s viewers will also be able to vote for all “Premios” nominees by following a link at premiosMTVTr3s.com. All winners will be announced during the live telecast on October 18th.

“By expanding the ‘MTV Tr3s Viewer Choice Awards’ to three categories, we seek to better represent the musical preferences of our U.S. Latino audience,” said Jesus Lara, Senior Vice President, Talent and Music for MTV Tr3s and MTV/VH1 Latin America. “We are proud of the platform MTV Tr3s provides both established and emerging artists and are excited to discover who young U.S. Latinos vote for as best urban, pop and new artist!”

Tillan will serve as Executive Producer for the “Los Premios MTV Latinoamerica 2007″ and Audrey Morrissey (a veteran of many MTV productions and award shows, and producer of “Alejandro Sanz MTV Unplugged,” “La Ley MTV Unplugged” and four previous Los Premios MTV), will produce the show.
