Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Yahoo! Telemundo today announced its Top 10 Searches for the month ending July 31 (http://yahootelemundo.com/lomasbuscado), which include the Top 10 in overall searches, image searches, as well as the most searched for Men for the month of July, as established by the millions of Yahoo! Telemundo users.

Top Trends in Search for July include:

Top 10 Overall Searches

1. Without Breasts There Is No Paradise (Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso)

2. Miss Universe 2008

3. Animals

4. Monica Bellucci

5. Love and Sex

6. Aracely Arambula

7. Galilea Montijo

8. Marijuana risks

9. Ingrid Betancourt

10. Organic Foods

Sin Senos No Hay Paraíso (literally, Without Breasts There Is No Paradise), is a Spanish-language telenovela that debuted on Telemundo on July 16. A hit in Colombia, the telenovela tells the story of an attractive young prostitute who seeks massive breast implants to attract a rich cocaine smuggler. The show was one of the network’s most-watched premieres ever and, not surprisingly, nabbed this month’s number one spot on the Top 10 Overall Searches. Also topping the list was a group of beautiful women, including Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza, Italian actress Monica Bellucci, and Aracely Arambula, who just announced she is pregnant with boyfriend Luis Miguel’s second child. Rounding out the list was former FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) captive Ingrid Betancourt, whose recent rescue after six-and-a-half years of captivity created a worldwide media frenzy.

Top 10 Image Searches

1. Tattoos

2. Adriana Lima

3. Sceneries

4. Gemma Atkinson

5. Eva Longoria

6. Galilea Montijo

7. Barbara Mori

8. Vanessa Guzman

9. Isabel Madow

10. Naruto

Top 10 Image Searches (cont.)

The number one most searched for image on Yahoo! Telemundo in July was Tattoos – tattoos have experienced a resurgence in popularity in many parts of the world, particularly in North America, South America and Europe. A survey published by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that 24% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 50 have a tattoo.

Victoria’s Secret Supermodel Adriana Lima, an ever-popular name on the Top Searches lists, is still making headlines after it was announced that she and basketball star boyfriend, Marko Jaric of the Minnesota Timberwolves, will be tying the knot. Following in Lima’s footsteps – four more models were among the most searched for images in July: British lingerie model (and reality TV star) Gemma Atkinson; Uruguayan-Mexican actress/model Barbara Mori, star of the hit telenovela remake, Rubi; as well as model Isabel Madow, known for her appearances on the Mexican edition of Big Brother VIP. Mexican actress and model Vanessa Guzman (a former Miss Mexico) also peaked users’ interest as she recently went public with information that she and boyfriend Uberto Bondoni, an actor from Uruguay, were blackmailed for a sex tape that was allegedly taken from their home in Mexico.

Top 10 Men Searches

1. Thomas Beatie

2. Chespirito

3. Lil wayne

4. Don Omar

5. Luis Miguel

6. Vicente Fernandez

7. Juanes

8. Cristiano Ronaldo

9. Tito El Bambino

10. Ricardo Arjona

Ironically, the most searched for man this month is really a woman. Thomas Beatie, the world’s first person to conceive a child after a gender-reassignment operation, gave birth this past month to a healthy baby girl. Mexican television icon Roberto Gómez Bolaños, known to the world as Chespirito, also topped the list. Bolaños, best known for his roles as “El Chavo del Ocho” and “El Chapulín Colorado,” has been touring Latin America to present his play “11 y 12.”

In the number four slot, Puerto Rican Reggaeton star Don Omar has been cleared of all drug and weapons charges in relation to an incident dating back to 2004.The 30-year-old has been on trial in a court in Carolina, Puerto Rico for the last two weeks, after he was arrested in September 2004 by drug enforcement officers, who claim to have found him and two pals smoking marijuana. The agents also allegedly found a gun and $1,200 in cash in his possession. Portuguese footballer and heartthrob Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Manchester United, has also generated interest amidst speculation about a move to Real Madrid. Last but not least, Guatemalan singer-songwriter, Ricardo Arjona, also generated buzz as he officially launched “Fundación Adentro,” an initiative to teach music to poor children in his native Guatemala.

Every month the Yahoo! Telemundo Top 10 Searches showcases the diverse interests and concerns of U.S. Hispanics around the net, from gorgeous celebrity sightings and salacious political news to funny jokes and the latest consumer obsessions.  The monthly list includes a recap of the Top 10 Overall Searches, Top 10 Image Searches and Top 10 Searches in a revolving category, which changes monthly.  To come up with the Yahoo! Top Searches list, Yahoo! scans anonymous query logs from Yahoo! Search across a variety of categories to see what themes and trends bubble up to the surface. Individual searches are never used to develop these lists.  For more information on Yahoo! Telemundo’s Top 10 Searches, visit www.yahootelemundo.com/lomasbuscado.

“Concierto por la libertad”– Announced In A Press Conference Yesterday By Betancourt & The Mayor of Paris – Will Coincide With Hundreds of Planned Peace Marches & Concerts Across The World In Celebration of Colombian Independence Day

Scheduled To Take Place at The Trocadero Esplanade In Paris at 2PM,  “Concierto por la libertad” (The Concert For Freedom) Will See Colombian Superstar Juanes Joined By Spanish Superstar Miguel Bose, French Artists Renan Luce & Michel Delpech (and More Artists to Be Announced Shortly) In a Free Acoustic Concert To Both Celebrate The Recent Release of 15 Long-Held Hostages – Including Ingrid Betancourt – And Advocate For The Return Of Thousands Of People Still Held Captive In The Jungles of Colombia

- - - - - - - -

During a press conference yesterday in Paris, Ingrid Betancourt - the former Colombian Senator and Presidential candidate recently released from six-years of captivity – announced plans to hold a special free concert in Paris on July 20th in conjunction with Colombian Independence Day.  The Concert for Freedom will coincide with hundreds of similar peace concerts and marches planned throughout Colombia and across the world that will demand the release of the thousands of remaining hostages still held captive in the jungles of Colombia.  Joined by the mayor of Paris, Betancourt explained the event will be a bridge of love between France and Colombia,” and is intended to send “a message of hope for those who are still there and act as a tribute to those who will not return”

Set to take place at 2:00PM in Paris at the Trocadero Esplanade, the concert will see acoustic performances by Juanes (who has already been honored by France as a “Knight of The Ordre des Arts et des Lettres), Spanish superstar Miguel Bose, French artists Renan Luce & Michel Delpech and more performers to be announced shortly.

Known world-wide as a leading activist for peace in Colombia, Juanes was able to speak with Betancourt via a radio program the day following her release. Betancourt graciously shared that she “was one of his first fans” (having seen Juanes perform in concert and meeting the then-upcoming singer shortly before her captivity) “…and look at him now, an artist recognized by the whole world and the pride of Colombia.”

In the ensuing days, Betancourt and the multiple-Latin Grammy winner remained in contact and Juanes proposed the idea of holding an event similar to the recent Concierto Paz Sin Fronteras (The Peace Without Borders Concert) which he had organized in response to border tensions between Colombia and Venezuela. In addition to the July 20th call for the immediate release of all remaining hostages, JUANES also plans to pay tribute to the heroic Colombian soldiers who risked their own lives in the dramatic rescue effort.

Currently in the midst of a highly successful tour of Europe, Juanes will quickly fly from Paris to resume his concert schedule at a show that same evening in Locarno, Switzerland.

Latin Music USA - A Multi-Media Event Premieres January 21, 2009 on PBS

“From Latin Jazz and Mambo to Salsa, Tejano, Chicano Rock, Latin pop, and Reggaeton, Latin Music USA tells the story of the rise of new American music forged from powerful Latin roots and reveals the often overlooked influence of Latin music on Jazz, Hip Hop, Rhythm and Blues and Rock and Roll - and on all of American culture. It’s a fresh take on our musical history, reaching across time and across musical genres to embrace the exciting hybrid sounds created by Latinos, musical fusions that have deeply enriched popular music in the US over more than five decades.

The series features memorable characters and vibrant music and dance showcasing the impressive range of Latin music in the US, including, among others, Salsa greats Willy Colon and Marc Anthony; the Latin-inflected sound found in much of sixties Rock and Roll from the Drifters to Motown to the Rolling Stones; the genius of Texas accordion player Flaco Jimenez; Carlos Santana; Linda Ronstadt; the legendary Chicano rock band Los Lobos; megastars Gloria and Emilio Estefan; Ricky Martin and Juanes; Miami rapper Pitbull; and Reggaeton performers Daddy Yankee and Tego Calderon. The life experiences of these and many other unforgettable artists will reveal how Latinos have reinvented music in the United States and forged new identities within this country, while never losing sight of their own rich traditions.

Produced by a world-class production team at WGBH and the BBC, Latin Music USA “invites the audience into the vibrant musical conversation between Latinos and non-Latinos that has helped shape the history of popular music in the United States,” says series producer Adriana Bosch. The multimedia project is anchored by a four-hour documentary series that premieres on January 21, 2009 on PBS stations nationwide.

“Latin Music USA has the potential to be a cultural milestone, advancing Americans’ understanding of Latino rhythm and music as a dynamic player in shaping American society past, present and future,” said John F. Wilson, senior vice president and chief television programming executive, PBS. “And music, the universal language, communicates this phenomenon in a most irresistible way.”

“This summer, Latino artists, comedians and entertainers are in the spotlight in the country’s top travel destination: Las Vegas. Visitors from around the world are flocking to the Strip at the height of travel season to see award-winning musical talents such as Juanes, Ozomatli and Camila, as well as comedians like Carlos Mencia and George Lopez. In a city already known for world-class entertainment, these Latino acts are drawing sellout crowds.

Recently, Carlos Mencia, the Honduran-born host of Comedy Central’s “Mind of Mencia” showcased his comedy at Pearl Concert Theater at The Palms Casino Resort; while Juanes, a three-time Latin Grammy-winning Colombian artist was at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Ozomatli, the Grammy-winning Latin fusion band, performed poolside at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino; Camila, the hit Mexican band, prepares for their live performance at The Joint (also at the Hard Rock) on June 20. The Grammy-nominated Mexican trio’s third single, Todo Cambió, recently reached the #1 spot of Mexico’s Top 100 Singles Chart.

The Strip is already preparing for Mexican Independence Day. Already lined up for the weekend, September 12-15, at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is Luis Miguel. Leading Latin Pop Star Alejandro Fernández brings his new tour “VIENTO A FAVOR” to the Mandalay Bay Events Center Monday, Sept. 15. Tickets for Fernández are on sale now, while Miguel’s are on sale June 7.

Packing an entire summer’s worth of fun into one trip has never been easier than in fabulous Las Vegas. Whether it’s the hottest new headliner, a chic restaurant opening or a VIP event at a trendy nightclub, there is always something exciting happening in Vegas.

There’s a good reason why Las Vegas is called the “Entertainment Capital of the World.” The biggest shows and brightest stars are within walking distance on the famed Strip. Elton John, Bette Midler and Cher have taken over The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, while Barry Manilow performs at the Las Vegas Hilton. The curtain rises on Mamma Mia! at Mandalay Bay and Jersey Boys at The Palazzo, while five different Cirque du Soleil shows entice guests to enjoy a different world. Beginning in September, Cirque du Soleil will add another show to the Strip with Criss Angel’s Believe. Tickets are available now.

Las Vegas has redefined the culinary and wine experience by offering world-class restaurants, more Master Sommeliers than any other city in the world, more wine sold per capita than in any other destination and the most comprehensive collection of celebrity chefs including Guatemalan native Eduardo Perez, who command their own fan base of fine diners and culinary enthusiasts. Perez worked his way up within the renowned Wolfgang Puck Fine Dining Group family, and is now the executive chef of Trattoria del Lupo at Mandalay Bay.

As the dining scene evolves in Las Vegas, new restaurants continue to open nearly every month, providing unique experiences for repeat visitors. Some of the many new restaurants include: Mario Batali’s first steakhouse Carnevino and fiery Brazilian SUSHISAMBA in The Palazzo, Payard Pâtisserie & Bistro at Caesars Palace, DJT in Trump International Hotel and Tower, RUB BBQ inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Kerry Simon’s Simon at Palms Place and Hard Rock Hotel’s AGO. Stephen Hanson and B.R. Guest opened Dos Caminos Las Vegas, at The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino, the first outside of New York City.

Enter any casino resort and discover amazing shopping opportunities around every corner. From Manolo and Jimmy Choo to Prada, Fendi, Louis Vuitton and Gucci, more than 700 different retail outlets and 11 million square feet of shopping fill the destination. One-of-a-kind shopping venues include Wynn Esplanade, The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, Mandalay Place, Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, Via Bellagio, Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian, Fashion Show Mall, Town Square and The Shoppes at Palazzo. “A lineup of Latin mega-stars including Shakira, Ricky Martin and Alejandro Sanz performed simultaneously on stages in Buenos Aires and Mexico City at the weekend, raising awareness for the needs of poor children in Latin America.

Outspoken Colombian rocker Juanes, one of the most anticipated performers at Saturday’s event, was absent due to problems with his plane.

Organized by the Fundacion ALAS (Latin America in Solidarity Action), the concerts, which have been widely referred to as the Latin American version of 2005’s Live 8 anti-poverty concerts, brought together more than 380,000 people in the Mexican capital’s Zocalo plaza and the riverside Costanera Sur in Buenos Aires. Mexican magnate Carlos Slim and Howard Buffett, son of billionaire Warren Buffett, donated $200 million to combat poverty in Latin America.”*

Latin rocker Juanes projects political voice in U.S.

“Eight years ago, Colombian rocker Juanes was an immigrant seeking opportunities in Los Angeles before he found a music producer who gave him his big break.

Today, Juanes is probably the most universal of Latin America’s stars, having sold 10 million records worldwide from Japan to Germany with his fusion of Latin folk music and rock, sung in Spanish.

At 35, he’s determined to put that clout to good use, whether to push for peace on Latin America’s borders or, while on his U.S. tour, to prod immigrants to get politically involved in this year of elections and immigration crackdowns.”*

Yahoo! Telemundo Reveals BUZZ-worthy Searches for April, Highlights Top 10 Searches in Three Popular Search Categories

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

“Yahoo! Telemundo today announced its Top 10 Searches for the month ending April 30 (yahootelemundo.com/lomasbuscado), which include the Top 10 overall searches, image searches and health searches for the month, as established by the millions of Yahoo! Telemundo users.

Top Trends in Search for April include:

Top 10 Overall Searches
1) Scarlett Johansson
2) Megan Fox
3) Comedians
4) 2008 Latin Billboard Awards
5) Valeria Mazza
6) Cuba
7) Juanes
8) Foreign baby names
9) Jackie Guerrido y Don Omar
10) Environment

Big screen bombshells topped the list of the most searched for on Yahoo! Telemundo with Scarlett Johansson and Megan Fox earning the top two spots in April. Johansson who recently starred in The Other Boleyn Girl, famous for her curvaceous figure and sultry voice, was the No. 1 search. Coming in at second place was Megan Fox of Transformers fame, who was just voted as the number one, sexiest woman in the world by readers of FHM magazine. Comedians came in third place on this April Fool’s month and the 2008 Latin Billboard Awards also garnered a hot spot on the list with Yahoo! Telemundo’s official web page dedicated to the event. The site offered music fans behind-the-scenes videos of rehearsals and interviews, plus a recap of the entire show, featuring the best/worst of the red carpet and show feedback from performers, guests and fans.

Argentine supermodel, Valeria Mazza and her husband, businessman Alejandro Gravier, welcomed their fourth child (and first daughter) Taina, on April 22 in Buenos Aires, earning her the number five slot. Many searched for news on Cuba’s lift of the decades-long ban on consumer electronics such as cell phones, DVD players and microwave ovens, etc. After years of being denied these modern day luxuries, Cuban citizens are now allowed to purchase these consumer goods — despite extremely high prices.

Latin rock star Juanes, with his often sold out concert tour, continues as one of the most searched for personalities on Yahoo! Telemundo. Searches for foreign baby names were popular this month as many expectant parents look for unique names to moniker their little ones. There was also much buzz about Jackie Guerrido and Don Omar’s April wedding — the Reggaeton star and TV weather forecaster reportedly tied the knot in their native Puerto Rico with over 300 family and friends. Rounding off the top ten is a topic that should interest people the world over — the environment and climate change have become current and definitive topics and many are searching the web for more in depth and up to the minute news on how we can make a significant change to save our planet.

Top 10 Image Searches
1) Screensavers
2) Jessica Alba
3) Tatoos
4) Carmen Electra
5) Adriana Lima
6) Adamari Lopez
7) Naruto
8) Rihanna
9) Lindsay Lohan
10) Maria Sharapova

Screensavers nabbed the number one slot for the most searched image category in April; but overall, famous beauties continue to rule this category with celebrities such as mom-to-be, Jessica Alba, Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima, tennis star Maria Sharapova, as well as R&B singer Rihanna. Lindsay Lohan is back as a most searched term this month as the long-troubled actress continues to get her life back on track. Images of newly engaged Carmen Electra were also quite popular perhaps due to her surprising black diamond engagement ring from musician Rob Patterson. Hanging on strong to the list are images of the popular Japanese anime character Naruto due to its enormous popularity with kids around the world.
