MEXICAN ROCKERS JAGUARES SIGN ON FOR AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL’S SMALL PLACES TOUR

SHOWS TO BE AMONG HUNDREDS OF WORLDWIDE CONCERTS
Jaguares have announced their participation in Amnesty International’s upcoming Small Places Tour. A hugely popular Rock group from Mexico City, Jaguares will lend their talent and energy once again to Amnesty’s current campaign, which coincides with the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

Through media interviews, ads, concerts, college visits, and community forums throughout the Americas, Jaguares will encourage audiences to join Aliados con Amnesty, a group of activists engaged in promoting human rights for Latinos that’s the fastest-growing network of Amnesty International members.  The band will also participate in activism events hosted by Amnesty Aliados volunteers, and will include information about the organization with the release of their new album “45″ on September 2nd.

The Small Places Tour is unique in that artists worldwide can participate, just like Jaguares, to raise funds and awareness by performing benefit concerts, offering premium-seating packages, or auctioning off meet & greets and other unique fan experiences between September 10 and December 10. The proceeds will go towards Amnesty’s UDHR 60 campaigns, which include putting a stop to torture, demanding the closure of Guantanamo, ending the killing in Darfur, preventing violence against women, protesting China’s actions in Tibet, and working for the release of Aung San Sui Kyi in Burma.

For nearly half a century, Amnesty International has been fighting the good fight on behalf of the underdog and the oppressed. From Pete Townshend’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” at the first Amnesty International “Secret Policeman’s Ball” gala in 1979 to Green Day’s stirring rendition of John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero” for Amnesty’s 2007 Darfur campaign, musicians and fans have always answered Amnesty’s call, willing to stand on the front lines of the war to counter terror with justice and human rights.

The Secret Is Out - New York Latino Rock Band Sonido Secreto to share the stage With Rock En Español Legends Jaguares

“New York’s own Sonido Secreto will open up for Jaguares on September 12, 2007 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.

Made up of Pozo (guitar), Gaia (drums/percussion), Oveck (lead vocals/guitar), and the sultry Sol (bass/vocals), Sonido Secreto is on the verge of bringing their unique sound to the masses. While once categorized as a blend of grunge and psychedelic rock with subliminal sound effects and samples, they recently have incorporated a more progressive rock approach, adding classic rock, hard rock and blues influences. Their sound is offered in elaborate musical parables rich with allegories that offer respite before a sonic rush of climax until transforming into a trip in which they transport their audience to a surrender of the senses. This versatile quartet experiments with sounds in which influences of classic bands like Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin as well as sounds of contemporaries like La Barranca and Draco can be heard.

“We are extremely excited that Guasabara’s inaugural act will be sharing the stage with veritable Rock en Español Legends like Jaguares,” said Guasabara Records, CEO Jason Otaño. “The time has come for rock fans worldwide to take part in the Sonido Secreto experience. Hopefully, this show will help pave the way.”

Sonido Secreto signed with Guasabara Records in the fall of 2006. Sonido Secreto just completed their debut album, Voodoo Sónico. The recent single release - “Huellas de Rosas” & “Wasted”, was the inaugural release for Guasabara Records, as well as the first commercial release by Sonido Secreto.
About Guasabara Records:

“Justo en el momento en que celebraban ser la Única banda latina incluida en el disco Make some noise, diez años de vida de Jaguares y la gira Caifanes XX, los fantasmas de más de cuarenta cirugís a las que sometiera SaÚl Hernández hace algunos años por padecimientos de su garganta y por ante todo seguir brindando mÚsica a sus “aliados”; parecieron hacerse presentes de nuevo.”

The accents on the music - Patricia Lopez knows what Hispanics want - “Mex 2 the Max”

“The idea behind “Mex 2 the Max” is a timely one. So perfectly in tune with current entertainment trends and census data that its home ”” the six-year-old bilingual youth culture programmer LATV ”” is about to take the show national.

“Mex 2 the Max,” hosted by Los Angeles-born ex-model Patricia Lopez in that ubiquitous mix of Spanish and English called Spanglish thats heard around town, delivers the biggest international and national Hispanic music acts Jaguares, Daddy Yankee, Cafe Tacuba, Pitbull alongside up-and-coming local bands Los Abandoned, Go Betty Go, Malverde for an audience that can’t get enough. Especially now that MTV hardly screens videos at all.”

Rock (the Vote) en Espanol

Tags: , ,

“When SaÚl Hernández, singer of the Mexican alternative-rock band Los Jaguares, digs deep into his patriotic soul for the words to “Esta Muy Claro” (It’s Very Clear), the sadness of his sentiments””“In my country, the system has lost itself / Lost its beliefs, its autonomy / Lost its peace”””is almost too much to bear. It’s a quiet song about a country that long ago turned its back on its most vulnerable citizens, a country born of a revolution nearly a century ago that was supposed to usher in a new era of liberty and social justice. Today, Hernández sings of Mexico’s “cult of failure,” ending his lament with the repeated words, “It’s very clear that this government is not for me.”

Sound familiar? We in the United States would do well to watch what happens when Hernández and his fellow Mexicans go to the polls on July 2. From the looks of recent election results in Latin America, the region is moving leftward again after about a decade of flirting with U.S.-style free-market democracy and economic reform.”

Mexican rock band ‘Jaguares’ supporting AI’s campaign to Stop Violence Against Women

Filed under [ Hispanic News ]

“Over the next three months, Make Some Noise wants you to support the grassroots work of inspiring women in Ciudad Juarez and elsewhere by sending e-cards demanding justice.

Since 1993, almost 400 women and girls have been murdered and more than 70 remain missing in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua, Mexico. After years of campaigning on this issue, Mexican rock group and Make Some Noise artist Jaguares will add their support to the struggle of women activists on the ground.

Violence against women is a silent scandal that blights lives regardless of class or culture. Help tear a hole in that silence.”

Having Just Won an Impact Award For “Excellence in Bilingual Television Broadcasting”, LATV’s September Appearances Include Reggaeton Posterboy Daddy Yankee, Mexican Rock Supergroup Jaguares, and Warped Tour Favorites Go Betty Go

Chelina Vargas, Host & Co-Producer of Indie 103.1FM “The Red Zone”, Joins Network as Talent Booker for “LATV Live”

This fall, Los Angeles-based bilingual youth network LATV will be featuring performances and interviews from some of the biggest names in Latino entertainment, as well as up-and-coming talent. LATV continues to showcase today’s top artists in several genres, including performances this fall from reggaeton posterboy Daddy Yankee, Mexican rock supergroup Jaguares, Warped Tour favorites Go Betty Go, platinum-selling urbano act Akwid, and Latin-alternative buzz band Volumen Cero.

Joining “LATV Live” as the show’s new talent booker is Chelina Vargas, who is also known as “Cha-Cha” by loyal listeners of the popular “Red Zone” Latin-alternative radio show she co-produces and hosts on Indie 103.1FM in Los Angeles. At LATV, Vargas will develop exciting and relevant content as the network’s bi-cultural audience and marketshare continues to grow. She will be responsible for all music and entertainment-related bookings on “LATV Live.”

With its groundbreaking mix of English and Spanish language music and lifestyle programming, LATV has solidified itself as the leading network among bicultural Latinos in Los Angeles, America’s top Hispanic market. The network was recently singled out by the New York Times for its support of the Latin alternative genre in a recent cover story about the genre. The network is also developing a series of politically-minded segments for October and November stemming from LATV’s recent visit to Washington, DC. LATV’s content is predominantly in English, targeting bilingual Latino youth. Each week, LATV has a live in-studio audience. Presently, LATV is the only network airing on basic cable in Los Angeles that reaches the highly sought-after bicultural demographic. A favorite of national advertisers, LATV’s sponsors include Verizon, AT&T, McDonald’s, VW, Target Stores, and many others.

Political animals Jaguares on the prowl in Mexico

Even a hint of politics in song is a pretty good way to kill radio airplay in the U.S. But Mexico’s Jaguares are fierce in their politics, criticizing the Mexican government for alleged torture, unsolved mass murders and other human-rights violations.
