“As a result of the recent ‘reset’ in our economy, expectations of businesses and our community are changing,” said Margaret Lazo, EVP HR, Network and Cable Entertainment, NBCU and national co-chair of the GE Hispanic Forum. “This year the Summit will touch upon issues affecting Hispanics in their daily life – healthcare, education and the overall business environment,” added Ruben Gonzalez, General Manager, Latin America, GE Industrial Solutions and national co-chair of the GE Hispanic Forum. “The Hispanic community requires a renewed commitment from the private sector to improve in many of these areas and our Forum intends to do exactly that,” concluded Delia Garced General Manager, Product Commercialization, GE Energy and national co-chair of the GE Hispanic Forum.

This year's Summit explores new ideas and business growth opportunities for the Hispanic community in today's challenging economy. Close to 700 of GE's top Hispanic professional employees will participate, along with other GE leaders and representation from the company’s Latin American regional leadership. In addition, a series of panels will address the current economic environment and the state of Hispanics in the US today featuring multiple external experts including Jose Moreno Hernandez, NASA Shuttle astronaut, Fernando Aguirre, Chairman and CEO, Chiquita Brands International, and Maria Theresa Petersen Kumar, Executive Director, Voto Latino, among many others.

During this year’s Summit, the GE Hispanic Forum will unveil the Minorities in Higher Education 2010 – Twenty-Fourth Status Report conducted by The American Council on Education (ACE). The publication tracks the movement of people of color into and through higher education institutions in the United States. This year, the report includes a special essay on the educational attainment of the U. S. Hispanic population. The Status Report, made possible by a grant from the GE Foundation, is widely recognized as the national source of information on current trends related to minorities in higher education. This report summarizes high school completion rates, college enrollment, educational attainment, degrees conferred and employment trends.

On Tuesday October 19th, the GE Hispanic Forum members will participate on a signature GE Developing HealthTM community project in partnership with El Centro de Corazon, a local nonprofit whose mission is to promote the individual, community and social health of the East End and the Greater Houston area. In addition to a $20,000 donation from the Forum, 650 volunteers will gather to celebrate the completion of 2,600 hours of work around the city together with 1,500 community residents, through eight projects in 11 sites. Volunteers will assess health needs of the community, distribute food, offer mentoring sessions, help digitize patients’ records, and conduct facility improvement activities. The East End, an inner-city neighborhood contiguous to downtown Houston, a predominantly Hispanic community, is one of the poorest in the city. El Centro was established in June 1994 as a community-based social service organization servicing families in the East End, 90% of which are Latino.

In addition, GE volunteers will visit four schools to bring the Forum’s signature health program “Bee Healthy” to young children and expose them to the benefits of healthy living. The GE Hispanic Forum community efforts during the Summit will take place on the heels of a $1.25 million GE Developing HealthTM contribution to five Houston community health centers in April of this year.

“Cine Mexicano viewers celebrate their Hispanic heritage each time they tune into the network, where we pride ourselves in providing culturally-relevant programming for the Latino audience,” said Fernanda Merodio, director of affiliate sales and marketing for Olympusat’s Hispanic networks. “With our Apantállate promotion, we want to thank our viewers for their support, and provide them with great prizes that will allow them to engage with Cine Mexicano’s premium films and online content at the recently renovated CineMexicano.com.”

In conjunction with the online promotion, Cine Mexicano will also premiere a new movie each weekend day through Oct. 10. The programming schedule is available online at www.CineMexicano.com.
All movies are originally produced in Spanish, never dubbed, and feature many of the most-recognized film and telenovela stars from Mexico.
