Futbol Mundial Magazine Premiere FCBarcelona Commemorative Special Issue for 2008 Tour

Tags: , ,

“Futbol Mundial, the largest Spanish language sports magazine in the U.S., will produce and distribute a special issue dedicated to FCBarcelona (FCB), one of Europe’s top soccer clubs. The 16-page special issue will dedicate its entire editorial content to FCB’s history, success, and 2008 U.S. tour, which will take place on August 3 versus CD Guadalajara at Chicago’s Soldier Field, and August 6 against the New York Red Bulls at Giants Stadium in E. Rutherford, NJ.

The tour, recently announced between Major League Soccer (MLS) and FCB, is part of a five-year partnership — the first-ever European club to establish a long-term agreement with MLS in the United States — which includes the organization of a minimum of six international matches throughout the term.

Based upon the success of the 2006 tour of FCB, the publisher of Futbol Mundial Magazine decided to release another special commemorative issue since the previous tour registered the highest average attendance for any club tour in U.S. history, averaging 80,734 in three matches, and is the only one among club soccer tours in the U.S. featuring three or more games to sell out every stadium. In 2006, FCBarcelona played in front of three sold-out crowds: at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (vs. CD Guadalajara, 1-1 on Aug. 6 in front of 92,650), at Houston’s Reliant Stadium (vs. Club America, 3-3 on Aug. 9, with a crowd of 70,550), and at Giants Stadium in E. Rutherford, NJ (vs. NY Red Bulls, 4-1 on Aug. 12, in front of 79,002).

In addition to the special FCB issue, Futbol Mundial magazine has also
co-produced the official 2008 bilingual InterLiga program for the Mexican-club tournament with MLS’s marketing arm, Soccer United Marketing.

The selected story, which will be voted on by users from August 11 through 24 and revealed the week of September 1, will serve as inspiration for a new song to be performed by Chilean singer and former La Ley frontman Beto Cuevas on MTV’s “Los 10+ Pedidos” show scheduled to air this October.

“MTVN is proud to once again partner with Yahoo! in creating exciting, compelling content that engages Latin American youth through an online experience that translates into a unique, once-in-a-lifetime on-air opportunity with one of the region’s most iconic music legends, Beto Cuevas,” said Corinna Keller, vice president of International Marketing Partnerships. “Given Yahoo!’s reach and relevance in the region among youth, we are very excited to bring to life a viewer’s story on air in one of our most viewed and popular shows, Los 10+ Pedidos.”

“Many of our users throughout Latin America consider music to be a key motivator in their daily lives, and Blog & Rock provides them with a unique opportunity to turn the tables and potentially make their personal stories the source for inspiration for the next big lyrical hit,” said Jose Rivera Font, vice president and general manager, Yahoo! “Nominees for the first ever annual Tecate Premios Deportes (Tecate Sports Awards) were announced today by Univision, the most-watched Spanish-language television network in America. Comprised of Hispanic athletes in ten different categories, the nominees have been selected for their talent, character and perseverance, as well as their contributions to and impact on the Hispanic community. The Tecate Premios Deportes awards will be presented during a celebrity-filled red carpet celebration at the historic Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California, and will be broadcast on the Univision Network on Sunday, July 20th.

The Tecate Premios Deportes nominees were selected by a distinguished panel of current and former professional athletes and sports writers, including famed boxer Oscar de la Hoya; legendary Mexican soccer goalie Jorge Campos; retired NFL player Tony Casillas; NFL Hall of Fame recipient Anthony Muñoz; former Mexican soccer coach Jesus Bracamontes; and Enrique Borja, legendary Mexican forward and team president of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) Tigres.

The judging criteria for the awards included the athletes statistical excellence, participation in a televised professional sport in the United States during 2007, cumulative impact on their team and in the sport, and their reputation as a role model for the Hispanic community.

The Academy went through an arduous selection process to identify the nominees. We wanted to ensure this event recognized athletes based on their merit and not popularity, said Oscar de la Hoya, executive member of the Tecate Premios Deportes Academy. We are confident the list encompasses the best Hispanic athletes and look forward to honoring our colleagues at the event airing nationwide on July 20th on Univision.

Tecate Premios Deportes is the first-ever awards event of its kind, showcasing a seamless merger of sports and entertainment that will reach countless online fans.

“The Guggenheim Foundation’s proposal to build a museum in Guadalajara has failed because the foundation’s director Thomas Krens refused to scale down the project to fit Mexico’s art budgets, says Guadalajara businessman and art collector Jorge Vergara.

Mr Krens says that Mr Vergara has “absolutely nothing to do with our project in Guadalajara”. However as a powerful figure in the region—Mr Vergara owns the nutrition and cosmetics company Omnilife, four football clubs, and produces films—he is in a position to offer an insight into the processes that have resulted in the impasse.”*

Chivas USA wants to add a marquee Mexican-born player - Deadline for signing players outside the U.S. is Tuesday, but another window opens June 15

“Chivas USA and one of Mexico’s most celebrated soccer teams, Chivas de Guadalajara, share an owner, a nickname and similar jerseys.

But that lineage hasn’t helped the Major League Soccer club land its own celebrated Mexican-born player.

Chivas USA has only two Mexican-born players on its roster, defender Claudio Suarez and midfielder Francisco Mendoza.”*

HispanicPRWire - Anheuser-Busch and Hispanic Scholarship Fund Team Up with Major League Soccer for Higher Education

“Anheuser-Busch and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) announced they will team up to provide scholarships for Latino students nationwide through the Budweiser Saves for Education program. Nine Major League Soccer teams — Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA, Chicago Fire, San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas, Colorado Rapids, New York Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake, Houston Dynamo — are participating in this program. For every save made by the home team’s goalies this season, Anheuser-Busch and its local wholesaler will donate $100 to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, up to $10,000 per team.

“Goalies will be the heroes in every match, because their saves will help raise money for education,” said Frank D. Alvarez, president and CEO, Hispanic Scholarship Fund. “In the last 25 years, Anheuser-Busch and its family of wholesalers have partnered with us to raise more than $23 million and award more than 18,000 scholarships, and we’re pleased to continue these efforts with the Budweiser Saves for Education program.”

Anheuser-Busch is the brewer of Budweiser, the Official Beer Sponsor of Major League Soccer. Budweiser also sponsors the FIFA World Cup, the English Premier League, Manchester United, the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams, the Mexican National Team, SuperLiga, InterLiga and Chivas de Guadalajara.

“We’re pleased to partner with Major League Soccer and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships through Budweiser Saves for Education,” said Jesús Rangel, vice president, sales development and community relations, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. “Anheuser-Busch has been part of the Latino community for more than 100 years, and we understand that the future of any community depends upon developing the next generation of leaders. It’s a goal we can celebrate with every save.”

During Hispanic Heritage Month in October, Anheuser-Busch will present a check to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.

Anheuser-Busch’s support of the Latino community dates back more than a century. The company supports approximately 400 community-based, local and national Latino organizations with contributions totaling nearly $52 million during the past two decades. Anheuser-Busch’s efforts in the Latino community focus on values such as education, leadership development, economic empowerment, public advocacy and arts and culture. As a result, the company has the No. 1 and No. 2 beer brands in the Latino market - Bud Light and Budweiser. To learn more about these efforts, please visit www.Latinobud.com.

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the nation’s preeminent Latino scholarship organization HSF’s vision is to strengthen the country by advancing college education among Hispanic Americans. In support of its mission to double the rate of Hispanics earning college degrees, HSF provides the Latino community more college scholarships and educational outreach support than any other organization in the country. During the 2006-2007 academic year, HSF awarded nearly 4,200 scholarships exceeding $26.5 million. In its 32-year history, HSF has awarded more than 82,000 scholarships worth more than $221 million to Latinos attending nearly 2,000 colleges and universities in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
