MIAMI, FL – August 3, 2008 – GolTV, the only live bilingual channel delivering 24/7 soccer, regrets Dish Network’s decision to discontinue carriage of GolTV’s unmatched international soccer coverage effective Friday afternoon, August 1. Dish Network’s loss of GolTV was the result of its decision to impose unreasonable contract demands and terms on the independent and privately-owned minority network, GolTV.

Millions of DISH subscribers have lost GolTV’s exclusive, live from London, TV coverage of the Emirates Cup. This decision also falls on the verge of 2010 World Cup qualifying matches and season kick-offs of GolTV’s exclusive TV coverage of the Spain’s La Liga on August 31 and Germany’s Bundesliga on August 15.

The satellite giant decided to remove GolTV, from its America’s Top 250 and Dish Latino programming packages. Consistently ranked in the top five Hispanic satellite and cable-delivered networks, Spanish and English-speaking soccer enthusiasts have been calling the South Florida-based soccer programming network over the weekend to voice their stunned reaction by the sudden and unprecedented loss of one of their favorite sports networks.

“Dish Network has demonstrated total disregard for independent networks, the millions of soccer fans we represent, and minority-owned businesses by this action,” said Rodrigo Lombello, GolTV COO. “We urge upset Dish viewers to contact us or Dish to voice their concerns.”

Dish Network subscribers can take action by emailing GolTV at info@goltv.tv .

Nielsen to Report U.S. Ratings for GolTV on Its Spanish-Language Cable Service

Tags: , , ,

“Nielsen Co. and GolTV, the 24-hour soccer cable channel, reached an agreement to report program ratings in Nielsen’s U.S. Hispanic cable service, known as the Nielsen Homevideo Index Hispanic Service. The agreement is effective Oct. 1.

GolTV’s ratings will be derived from the Hispanic sub-sample of Nielsen’s National People Meter panel. About 1,300 Hispanic households are included in the Hispanic sample.

Prior to this, the network was receiving access to quarterly Nielsen Hispanic data for their internal use but was not published to the marketplace.

With the new agreement, GolTV will be one of only four fully rated Spanish-language cable networks that will be accessible to national clients. The network will receive an NHIH Hispanic Cable Pocketpiece book, which covers various programs and dayparts and will be distributed to all National clients. Other services include NHIH English language cable network Reports, monthly sample characteristics report, rights to publishing data and access to Nielsen’s Galaxy Software.

On Aug. 27, Nielsen announced that it was retiring its National Hispanic People Meter panel, a separate Hispanic-only sample established in 1992, and that it would be using the larger National People Meter sample for all national television ratings reporting. The HNIH service draws upon Hispanic panelists in the National People Meter sample.”

“As a tribute to an athlete’s passion to compete and will to win, Gatorade’s latest ad spotlights Rolando Cantu, a pioneer for all Hispanic athletes to follow as he became the first player from a Mexican University to play in the NFL. The new spot, called “Chosen”, tells the story of Cantu’s entry into the league and the challenges he faced along the way to the roster of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals. The ad debuts nationwide today on Telemundo, Telefutura, Univision, GolTV, and Azteca America networks.

In the spot, Cantu tells his story as he lines up for action on the Cardinals’ practice field. As he prepares for the snap, he recounts how people told him he wasn’t big enough or good enough to play in the NFL and how the game was too complicated for him to succeed. However, as the ball is snapped, those assumptions, along with a Cardinal linebacker, are squashed as Cantu dominates the play. “
