“LA FAMILIA P. LUCHE has put a bizarre spin on the traditional Mexican family for 5 successful years, and this coming May 27th, Xenon Pictures and Televisa Home Entertainment will give audiences nationwide the chance to enjoy the best moments of the series on DVD, allowing fans to relive the mirth and hilarity of television’s funniest dynasty.
(Photo: www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080527/LATU087)

From the delightfully eccentric imagination of Mexico’s premier comic, Eugenio Derbez (La Misma Luna), LA FAMILIA P. LUCHE explores real-life circumstances in completely outrageous settings, all the while delivering big laughs. Derbez stars alongside Consuelo Duval (”El Privilegio de Mandar”, “La Hora Pico”), Regina Blandon (”Hospital el Paisa”), Miguel Perez (”Codigo Postal”), Luis Manuel Avila (”La Fea mas Bella”), and Barbara Torres (”Hospital el Paisa”).

Media Life Magazine reported in 2006 that LA FAMILIA P. LUCHE was “Telefutura’s most watched show among kids”; this overwhelming popularity has resulted in a theatrical feature, scheduled for release later this year.

The single-disc, Spanish-language DVD will be available at all major retail and online stores with a suggested retail price of $14.98. (High resolution cover attached).

SYNOPSIS:
“La Familia P. Luche” (The Plush Family) reflects the experiences of a typical Mexican family-living in a highly improbable world. The members consist of housewife Federica, henpecked husband Ludovico, Ludoviquito, the wily youngest child, Junior, a grown man the family has “adopted”, Bibi, the misfit daughter, and their maid, Exelsa, all of whom wear plushy clothes, drive plushy cars, and live in a soft, fuzzy, bouncy universe. Enjoy the misadventures of this hilariously bizarre family as they stumble their way through the cartoon reality known as Ciudad Peluche. “La Familia P. Luche” is just like real life, yet totally ridiculous — and a whole lot funnier!

“Univision Communications Inc., the leading Spanish-language media company in the U.S., today presented the 2008-2009 programming line-up for its three television networks and showcased their unique 360o marketing resources as solutions for clients seeking growth. Univision challenged advertisers to view Hispanic consumers as the growth engine of tomorrow and the key to marketing success. The presentation included a heart-stopping performance by music superstar Shakira and the opening number of In the Heights, the hit Broadway musical about the Hispanic experience in the U.S. which was just nominated for 13 Tony Awards®. The Upfront event was held this morning at the Frederick P. Rose Hall/Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City and was hosted by Univision CEO, Joe Uva, Univision president and COO, Ray Rodriguez, and president of advertising sales and marketing, David Lawenda.

This years Upfront is not about marketing to Hispanics, but about marketing itself, said Uva. Its about the gap between the true power of the Hispanic consumer to grow brands and those advertisers who have yet to realize that a marketing strategy that is not fully committed to the Hispanic consumer, is hardly a winning strategy.

Univision is delivering innovative, quality programming that has performed very well year after year, said Rodriguez. The strength of our programming, combined with the unique connection with our audiences, allows marketers to build cross-platform initiatives that can help build market share.

Marketing to Hispanics grows brands today and builds loyalty for tomorrow, and only Univision offers advertisers innovative and results-driven marketing solutions via the most powerful, cross-platform vehicles in Spanish-language media, commented Lawenda. Every dollar spent with Univision is truly a dollar invested in growth.

While only a small percentage of viewers are unique to the top English-language networks, 60% of Univisions Adult 18-49 audience are unduplicated viewers who are not exposed to advertisers messages anywhere else. In addition, during the last five years while the English-language networks have lost audience, Univision has been growing. In just the last year, Univision was the #1 network in America in the highly coveted Adult 18-34 demographic on 55 nights, beating ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX.

Univision Communications includes the #1 Spanish-language television network, the #1 Spanish-language cable network, the #1 Spanish-language radio properties and the #1 Spanish-language online portal.

Upfront Presentation Highlights

The company presented client testimonials attesting to the positive results it has achieved. Representatives from leading brands such as AT&T, Ford, General Motors, and Miller Lite shared their success stories about how Univision helped grow their business.

The presentation also outlined the benefits of the recently introduced Fusion research tool, created in partnership with Nielsen Media Research. Measuring the viewing habits of product purchasers against the purchasing habits of TV viewers, the Fusion research tool is designed to help clients target consumers more efficiently and quantify their return on investment.

Building on its more than 40 years of community involvement, Univision unveiled its new environmental initiative, Piensa Verde, Actúa Verde (Think Green, Act Green), a company-wide effort to educate viewers on the importance of protecting the environment that includes a variety of specials and 50+ energy conservation tips. A number of popular programs will have green content, including Premios Juventud, Primer Impacto and Galavisións most popular entertainment, lifestyle and news programs such as Acceso Máximo, Moda al Rescate, Decorando Contigo, Tu Salud, Delicioso, and En Profundidad.

Univision Network News, anchored by Jorge Ramos and María Elena Salinas, will continue to provide the most complete Spanish-language coverage of the 2008 presidential elections, including the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, in Decisión 2008 (Decision 2008). With the most in-depth, relevant coverage and special editions of Al Punto (To the Point), Univision undoubtedly is the source of information for Hispanic voters in November as they flock to the polls to make U.S. election history.

In addition, Univision awarded its 2nd annual Corazón (Heart) Awards, which pay tribute to commercials that best connect with Hispanic consumers, as judged by viewers. Advertisers submitted dozens of entries, which were posted on Univision.com, and users voted for those they found particularly meaningful. This years winners were Ford and Pampers.

“The Univision Television Network’s telecast of the 8th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards last night reached 12.6 million viewers and was the biggest broadcast ever in the history of the award show among the highly coveted Adult 18-34 demographic. According to Nielsen Media Research’s Fast NTI Ratings, the broadcast attracted 2.3 million Adults 18-34 and 2.7 million Persons 12-34, a +15% and +8% increase versus last year, respectively. Overall, Univision’s telecast attracted 6.2 million average Total Viewers.

Among Adults 18-34, the Univision telecast beat such other popular programs as ABC’s “Ugly Betty” (2,171,000); NBC’s “ER” (2,078,000); CBS’s “Survivor China” (1,889,000); Fox’s “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?” (1,543,000) and “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” (1,309,000); and CW’s “Smallville” (1,253,000) and “Supernatural” (747,000).

Univision’s telecast of the award show was also an unqualified success among other important demos. This year’s show garnered the second highest audience ever among Adults 18-49 (3.8 million) and Teens 12-17 (390,000), versus previous Latin GRAMMY® broadcasts.

The broadcast was also the #1 program in its time period in a number of major markets among key demos, regardless of language. In Los Angeles, the program was #1 for the time period among Persons 2+ and in the key demos of Adults 18-34, 18-49, and Teens 12-17, beating all other stations in the market. The program was #1 among Adults 18-34 in New York, Houston, and Dallas. It was #1 among Adults 18-49 in Houston and Dallas, and it was #1 in households in Miami.

Held for the very first time in Las Vegas, the excitement of this year’s program started even before the show as thousands of screaming, enthusiastic Latin music fans lined the Green Carpet arrival area at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The completely sold-out, capacity crowd erupted with cheers and danced in the aisles starting with the show’s electrifying opening act of superstar Ricky Martin (winner for Best Male Pop Vocal Album and Best Long Form Music Video) and one of Vegas’ most popular acts, Blue Man Group.

The energized audience was then treated to an incredible line-up of eye-popping Las Vegas style musical numbers spanning the rich spectrum of Latin music featuring Juan Luis Guerra (The evening’s leading winner for Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Best Merengue Album, and Best Tropical Song), Calle 13 (winners for Best Urban Music Album and Best Urban Song), Pepe Aguilar (Best Ranchero Album), La 5a Estación (Best Pop Album By A Duo Or Group With Vocal), and Laura Pausini (Best Female Pop Vocal Album), and Jesse & Joy (Best New Artist), among others.

The show featured an explosive performance by the Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Calle 13 and Cuban hip-hop group Orishas, featuring the cast from the Las Vegas production of “STOMP OUT LOUD,” dancers from “HavanaNightShow,” and Arauco Indians from Colombia in native dress. Fellow reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee performed “Ella Me Levanto” surrounded by a bevy of beauties in towering feathered headdresses from the Folies Bergere.

Another musical highlight featured Best Female Pop Vocal Album winner Laura Pausini who was joined onstage by fellow Italian and superstar tenor Andrea Bocelli. In one of the evening’s most colorful productions, Puerto Rican reggeatonera Ivy Queen performed her hit “Que Lloren” dressed as a geisha and surrounded by dancers in elaborate Japanese masks and costumes. In perhaps the most emotionally charged performance of the evening, Spanish singer Shaila Dúrcal moved the audience as she sang “Amor Eterno,” a tribute to her deceased mother, Rocío Dúrcal. One of the most interesting combinations of the show was the pairing of duranguense group Alacranes Musical and Mexican alternative band Kinky. Proving that talent runs in the family, international recording sensation Miguel Bosé performed an exciting duo with his niece Bimba. Closing the show was the night’s biggest winner Juan Luis Guerra who was accompanied on timbales by legendary percussionist Sheila E. in a rousing performance of his hit “La Travesía.”

Contributing to the program’s ratings success was no doubt Univision’s unique cross-promotional efforts by its sister networks TeleFutura and Galavisión, its Univision Radio Group, and its popular website Univision.com. The star-studded extravaganza was also broadcast offering English-language closed-captions, allowing all lovers of Latin music to enjoy this annual celebration of musical artistry.

Univision.com (keyword: Latin Grammy) was the official Spanish-language website of this year’s Latin GRAMMY® Awards. Exclusive online coverage features pre and post-show highlights that include behind-the-scenes videos, celebrity commentary, and a detailed summary of the night’s winners. Rounding out coverage, Univision Móvil also delivers pre and post-show exclusives with mobile video clips from the Green Carpet, artist interviews and behind-the-scenes action.

The 8th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards, co-hosted by internationally acclaimed actress/singer Lucero and Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez, was broadcast live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on the Univision Network on Thursday, November 8th, 2007, from 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. ET/PT (7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Central).”*

Filmmaker and activist Edward James Olmos and Marlene Dermer, co-founders of the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival (LALIFF) announced the 2007 festival lineup today.

LALIFF, which for the last ten years, has celebrated the rich diversity and artistry of Latino film and films that address Latino realities, will open on Sunday, October 7th, with Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna), the spell-binding feature film debut of Mexican director Patricia Riggen. Closing night, Sunday, October 14th, will be highlighted by El Camino de los Ingleses (Summer Rain), the second feature film directed by Gabi Award Winner Antonio Banderas. Presenting the best in Ibero-American cinema from Mexico to Spain, the 11th annual festival is sharply defined, says Dermer by coming of age stories and films from Latina women, an unprecedented coincidence that makes this year’s festival one of the strongest programs ever.

Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna), the festival opening night feature, earned a standing ovation at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival for its poignant, emotionally rich tale of a mother and son living on opposite sides of the U.S.-Mexico border connected by an enduring love. Written by Ligiah Villalobos, the film stars Adrián Alonso, Kate del Castillo, Eugenio Derbez, Maya Zapata, Carmen Salinas, Marí Rojo, Mario Almada, and America Ferrera. The film also features a cameo appearance by the legendary Norteño band Los Tigres Del Norte who also contributed to the film’s soundtrack.

Directed by Antonio Banderas, El Camino de los Ingleses takes us to Málaga where a group of young adults find their way through the perilous labyrinths of love, desire, poetry while confronting dark family secrets. “Summer Rain touches on a process we must all go through”¦ the passage from adolescence to adulthood,” says Banderas in his Director’s Notes.

In a potent addition to the opening and closing selections, award-winning director Alfredo de Villa (Washington Heights, Yellow) returns with his second LALIFF premiere, Adrift in Manhattan (USA), starring Heather Graham, William Baldwin, Dominic Chianese, Victor Rasuk and Elizabeth Peña. From Brazil, A Casa De Alice (Alice’s House), directed by Chico Teixeira, and winner of the Special Jury Award at the recent Guadalajara International Film Festival, also premieres at the festival this year.

LALIFF is also pleased to present a selection of North American premieres, among them Radio Corazón (Chile), directed by Roberto Artiagoití based on stories shared on air by listeners of the most successful Chilean radio show host of all time; La Señal (Argentina), the directorial debut by acclaimed actor Ricardo Darín and Martin Hodara, who took over directing the film after the passing of acclaimed director Eduardo Mignogna just before preproduction began; the visually interesting and original Postcards from Leningrad (Venezuela) directed by Mariana Rondón; Una Novia Errante (Argentina) directed, written and acted by newcommer Ana Katz; and Angel (Puerto Rico) directed by Jacobo Morales, whose film, Lo que le pasó a Santiago, earned him an Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film Category in 1990.

The documentary portion of the festival includes a broad selection of important works including: award-winning El Telón de AzÚcar (Cuba) directed by Camila Guzmán UrzÚa, daughter of re-known Chilean documentary filmmaker Patricio Guzmán; The Railrod All-Starts (Guatemala) directed by Chema Rodríguez about a group of prostitutes who start a soccer team; the inspirational story about how a man can make a difference in so many lives, Father G and the Homeboys (USA), directed by John Bohn; Hijos de la Guerra (USA) a powerful story about the America’s worst export – gangs in Central America; and Lost and Found in Mexico (USA) directed Caren Cross which brings a different look to the common migration between Mexico and US and features the lives of established American professionals who leave everything behind to start a new life in San Miguel, Mexico. Tell Me Cuba (USA) directed by Megan Williams and The Man of Two Havanas (USA) directed by Vivian Lesnik Weisman offer a better understanding of the constant controversial and divided situation between Cuban and US political situation. Cocalero (Bolivia) directed by Leandro Landes, bring a closer look to the Evo Morales, a man who became the first president of Bolivia with indigenous background.

LALIFF, a qualifying festival in the Short Award Category of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Science, will also present 45 titles in its Shorts Program. In addition, the festival will present a Music program with films from Brazil, Spain, USA and Puerto Rico.

In commemoration of the one hundred year anniversary of his birth, Olmos announced that the festival will honor the legacy of Gabriel Figueroa, the Mexican filmmaker who paved the way for the Golden Age of Mexican cinema and for whom the annual festival’s Gabi Lifetime Achievement Award is named, with a retrospective of Mexican films highlighting the world-class work of the acclaimed cinematographer.

The festival also announced that famed Mexican actor Ignacio López Tarso, 82, will be the recipient of the 2007 Gabi Lifetime Achievement Award. A pioneer in Mexico’s development of film and television productions, López Tarso has worked on more than 150 plays and musicals, 50 feature films and 25 television productions.

The Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival was founded in 1996 when the City of Los Angeles first looked at the possibility of having an official Latino film festival to cater to the cultural needs of the rapidly growing Latino community. The festival was founded by a group of visionaries led by Marlene Dermer, an independent producer with vast knowledge of Latin film and programming, George Hernandez, an independent film and music producer; and actor, director, producer and activist Edward James Olmos.

LALIFF, a 501c3 non-profit organization, has established the LALIFF Collection at the Academy Film Archive, which is open to the public and includes film titles presented at past year’s festivals. At the beginning of 2006, LALIFF announced the creation of the Latino International Film Institute (LIFI), dedicated to mentor, develop and support Latino filmmakers with independent and diverse visions in the United States and internationally; to provide an outlet and distribution opportunities; and to support the development and further education of school children from elementary to junior college in the United States.

The 11th Edition of the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival will take place from October 7-14, 2007 at the ArcLight Cinemas, 6360 W Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90028. Tickets will be available at the ArcLight Cinemas Box office and website: www.arclightcinemas.com.

During its Fall Programming Initiative and Hispanic Heritage Month, del Castillo will serve as the voice of The History Channel en español, handling an array of promotional responsibilities and hosting the U.S. debut of several acclaimed documentary films.

“I’m honored to be able to share with a diverse audience some of the remarkable achievements and important aspects of the history and culture of our people,” said Kate del Castillo. “And I’m proud to introduce these important films as we celebrate THE HISTORY CHANNEL EN ESPAí‘OL’s new fall programming Initiative.”

As part of the special events during the month, The History Channel en español will Premiere a full schedule of remarkable documentary programming, offering intelligent, thought-provoking programming from the U.S. and Latin America spotlighting Latino roots and culture.

The programs include:

The Pinochet Case The story of the landmark legal case against General Augusto Pinochet of Chile, before and after his arrest in London in 1998. It explores how a small group of people in Madrid laid the groundwork for an incredible feat — catching a dictator 25 years after his rise to power. Directed by Patricio Guzmán, 109 minutes. Premieres on The History Channel en español on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 8/7c.

The Sugar Curtain An intimate portrait of a generation that began its studies in primary school when the Cuban regime was at its best economically — the mid-1970s. It was at that moment that Cuba was left without allies, money or petroleum and the ideals of this generation were dismantled under the paralysis of the system. Directed by Camila Guzmán UrzÚa, 90 minutes. Premieres on The History Channel en español on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 8/7c.

Señorita Extraviada (Missing Young Woman) This documentary tells the story of the hundreds of women who have been kidnapped, raped and murdered in Juárez, Mexico since 1993 without any hope of bringing the perpetrators to justice. The film investigates the circumstances of the murders and the horror, fear and courage of the families whose children have been taken. Directed by Lourdes Portillo, 74 minutes. Premieres on The History Channel en español on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 8/7c.

Mexican Migration to the U.S. October 26, 2006. President George W. Bush signs Resolution 6061, authorizing exploration of a wall extending 1.123 kilometers to be constructed along the border between Mexico and the U.S. In this 2-hour special, The History Channel en español explores the key historical events leading up to this act, from the Mexican-American War in 1846 to today’s efforts to deny entry to Mexican immigrants attempting to cross illegally into “the land of opportunity.” Premieres on The History Channel en español on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 8/7c.

The Private Archives Of Pablo Escobar A rare glimpse into the life of Pablo Escobar, one of Colombia’s most infamous drug lords. With the help of his surviving family members, former associates, and over 600 hours of rare archival footage, this documentary gives viewers an idea of what used to be his home, fortune, and daily routine. It also offers some explanation of his contradictory reputation, and chronicles his rise from a small-time crook to a politically influential drug lord. Directed by Marc de Beaufort, 70 minutes. Premieres on The History Channel en español on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 8/7c.

The True Story Of Che Guevara This special from The History Channel, offers an exciting new look into Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s extraordinary life with interviews from those who knew him best (wives, children, comrades). The film depicts his affluent upbringing in Argentina, to the blood-soaked battlefields of the Cuban revolution, to his proud victories and humiliating defeats and his eventual assassination in the presence of the CIA in the jungles of Bolivia. 120 minutes. Premieres on The History Channel en español on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 8/7c.

A Place Called Chiapas A documentary that gives a firsthand account of the lives of the Zapatistas, led by the charismatic Subcomandante Marcos.
