“Me siento súper agradecido y honrado por este reconocimiento que me hace el gobierno de los Estados Unidos, y sobre todo la ciudad de Nueva York. Yo tuve la oportunidad de vivir dos  años allí y guardo gratos recuerdos de esta gran ciudad” comento el artista.

Luego de esta celebración, el cantante regreso a Miami a cumplir con varias actividades de su agenda promocional y partió a primera hora, del día sábado, hacia Medellín - a formar parte del majestuoso Concierto Nacional por la Paz en celebración del 20 de Julio – día de la Independencia de Colombia.  CABAS fue el artista invitado a cerrar este gran concierto en la ciudad de Medellín ante más de 50 mil personas.
Vale la pena mencionar que su hit radial ‘Bonita” lleva mas de 21 semanas ocupando el puesto #1 a nivel radial en su país natal  - Colombia – convirtiendo su mas reciente álbum “Amores Difíciles” en uno de los mas vendidos y escuchados en Colombia. “Bonita” de igual manera ocupa los primeros lugares en Bolivia, Argentina y Republica Dominicana respectivamente.

Colombian fighters have added excitement to American boxing in recent years. They haven’t always been the most technically skilled but most have been good punchers and their fights have been action-packed, in some cases hit-or-be-hit sizzlers.

Rubiela García gently kneads the corn-flour dough by hand, adding the occasional splash of water. “She has to do it with her hands because it’s the only way she can feel that it’s exactly how it should be,” explains her husband, Orlando Moreno.

By the time this weekend rolls around, García will have made enough dough to fashion about 800 empanadas. Esperanza Gomez, 50, is a physician, trained in Colombia, who spent 17 years at a children’s hospital in the Colombian city of Cali before coming to the United States four years ago. She would like to obtain her license to practice medicine in the United States, but the path for foreign-trained doctors is not easy, involving three lengthy exams, considerable expense, and a three-year residency program.

But now there is an organization designed to assist people such as Gomez. The Rhode Island Welcome Back Center, at Dorcas Place, 220 Elmwood Ave., was created to help immigrants trained in the health professions find appropriate work in this country. It officially opens tomorrow and Manuela Raposo, director of the center, said she’s already been contacted by 32 people, including Gomez, who want to make appointments.”*

Juanes’s in-laws were given quite a fright this past weekend when three assailants trespassed their property in Cartagena, Colombia, and stole $6,000 in cash and jewelry, along with a laptop and other valuables, according to various Colombian media sources. “*

After the breakup of Bacilos, his successful folk-pop trio from Miami, Jorge Villamizar found himself drawn to the native country he left behind.

“I grew up musically in the Miami scene, with people like Elsten Torres from Fulano, the guys from La Secta, the Spam Allstars,” Villamizar says. “But I became more attracted to Colombia. I bought a house there and decided to collaborate with musicians from there.”

Villamizar, whose new self-titled solo album was released last week on Warner Music Latina, cherishes his time with Bacilos. The partnership yielded three albums and a massive single, “Mi Primer Millon (My First Million),” that reconciled the gap between creative songwriting and massive sales.”*

This summer, Latino artists, comedians and entertainers are in the spotlight in the country’s top travel destination: Las Vegas. The Strip is already preparing for Mexican Independence Day. Already lined up for the weekend, September 12-15, at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is Luis Miguel. Leading Latin Pop Star Alejandro Fernández brings his new tour “VIENTO A FAVOR” to the Mandalay Bay Events Center Monday, Sept. 15. The Cordillera Central is one of the prime regions torn by the war between the Colombian military and the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia). The rural population, which is mostly lower class and of indigenous decent, and consequently the sector of the Colombian populous most dramatically hit by the armed confrontations, defends itself through the “Indigenous War.”

An enormous green desert. Leaving the Cali Airport, a sea of sugarcane plantations covers the extensive flats of Cauca, one of the most fertile regions of the Colombian countryside. Here, coffee cultivation has barely taken root, going back only two decades. Manuel Rozental, a doctor who has followed the activities and movements of the indigenous peoples of the North Cauca region for years, comments on the scenery from his seat at the back of the bus, remarking “It’s the agrofuels business.” Here, sugarcane trains stuffed to the brim cross all along the Pan-American route as they make their way to the refineries that border the track systems. As they go, they are met with the indifferent, and seemingly lost, gazes from rows of black countrymen, as they slowly saunter toward their poorly-constructed houses.”*

Orlando’s Hispanic population is not only growing but also becoming more diverse.

Aside from Puerto Ricans and Cubans, who have been coming to Florida for decades, the Latino population of Metro Orlando now also includes significant numbers of Mexicans, Colombians, Dominicans and Venezuelans.

Cooing softly in baby talk, German Viasus gently uses a toothbrush to bathe the little animal he has raised since infancy and then pampers it with a fresh meal of mango, bananas and melon. The object of his affection? A beetle the size of a hamster with a hard, shiny shell and 2-inch-long horns.

Viasus, 36, is a Colombian entrepreneur who is exploiting the beetle-mania sweeping Japan by raising and exporting hundreds of the creepy-crawlies every month.

He has become a fearless (in more ways than one) pioneer of Colombia’s somewhat belated effort to promote the legal exploitation of its biodiversity, a stunning variety of plant and animal species that is second only to Brazil’s.”*
