“Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company, today announced that it has completed its acquisition of Univision Music Group following the recent clearance of the deal in the U.S. by the Federal Trade Commission. The acquisition results in UMG becoming the largest Latin music company in North America.

The combined company, which will operate under the Universal Music Latin Entertainment banner, will include Universal Music Latino, Machete, the newly acquired labels from the Univision purchase — Fonovisa and Disa, Universal Music Mexico & Central America, Latin publishing in the US and Mexico, including the newly acquired Edimonsa, Disa and the Fonovisa catalogs, and GTS Global Talent Services, a management service division. “I am truly grateful to Zach for this exciting opportunity,” commented Mr. Lopez. “It is a privilege to continue working so closely with him and the entire Latin music team as we build this new company, complete with such a rich history and one of the most dynamic groups of artists and executives in the business.”

In addition, it was also announced today that Jose Behar, President of Univision Music Group, has departed the company.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to recognize all of the contributions that Jose has made to Univision over the years,” added Mr. Lopez. “We certainly wish him the very best in all of his future endeavors.”

“Microsoft Corp.’s Zune team today announced an industry-leading collaboration with MSN Latino and partnership with Remezcla.com to be the exclusive music sponsor for each site. The partnership will bring together the most trusted, renowned and visited sites among the Hispanic community, creating a powerful tool for artists to authentically connect with online consumers. The new co-branded online platform will launch on April 15, maximizing the reach among Hispanic and Spanish-language online sites.

The new alliance lets consumers discover new music and artists in an environment that’s familiar, while giving them a convenient and consistent purchase experience through Zune Marketplace. Through the announced digital platform, Zune and these cross-promoters will gain a significant reach and breadth among the Hispanic online community.

“For artists it means getting maximum exposure through prominent sites and through a digital storefront,” said Denisse Guerrero, lead singer of the Mexican electropop band, Belanova. “We’re thrilled that we’re able to work with Zune to expose our music to fans through various online avenues.”

Belanova will have prominent placement on the Zune Marketplace homepage and be artist of the month on MSN Latino in May.

“Zune continues its commitment to Latin artists and to the Hispanic community,” said Javier Farfan, the senior manager of Lifestyle Marketing for Zune. “Through these business arrangements, Zune will continue to offer Latino music lovers the artists’ information and industry content they care about through Zune, Zune Marketplace and the Zune Social.”

The arrangement with MSN Latino gives Zune the exclusive naming rights to MSN Latino’s music channel, which will be rebranded as Zune Musica through 2009. The collaboration between Zune and MSN Latino will include all pages within the MSN Latino Zune Musica music channel including editorial, graphics, photos, in-page video, special-event coverage and sponsorships related to music, such as the Latin Grammys and Latin Billboard Music awards. Additional support provided by the Zune-MSN Latino collaboration will include a Zune-branded artist of the month and deep links into Zune Marketplace when users want to buy music of featured artists.

“We’re excited to join Zune in its digital expansion,” said Mike DeGennaro, national sales manager for MSN Latino. “Our site has an eclectic mixture of content, and this collaboration with Zune, musically, will only enhance our content.”"

‘Karlifornia’ Puts A New Lens On L.A. - New MTV Tr3s original reality production introduces Karli Henriquez - Premieres on November 13th at 4 PM

“-“Karlifornia,” the newest offering from MTV Tr3s, is a weekly one-hour show that invites viewers to live the L.A. lifestyle as the cameras follow Karli Henriquez, the quintessential Angelina, as she opens up about growing up in L.A., her personal life, family, dating and more while hanging out with her favorite artists and actors and everyone who is making a mark in the City of Angels. “Karlifornia” premieres on MTV Tr3s on November 13th at 4 PM.

“Growing up in L.A. is the most awesome experience ever and I can’t wait to introduce MTV Tr3s viewers to my world and mi familia” says Karli. “Having my own TV show is a dream come true and I promise viewers they’re going to love getting to know L.A. ‘Karlifornia,’ style!”

In the first episode Karli gets pointers from her gal pal Audrina Patridge from MTV’s “The Hills,” checks in with a psychic about the future of her new show and introduces viewers to the artist LaLa whose song “la la la” is the theme song for “Karlifornia.” Videos by Karli’s favorites artists are included in every episode.

“Karlifornia” is a channel-defining program for MTV Tr3s because it draws directly on the experiences of Karli, a young Latina who grew up in a bilingual, bicultural world and is using her unique sense of style and perspective to succeed in life.

“Karli really represents the best of Latino youth. She is proud, smart and totally open to new experiences. Her love of life is infectious and she really has her finger on the pulse of the hottest music, fashion and cultural trends,” says Lily Neumeyer, Vice President of Programming and Production for MTV Tr3s. “Our audience is going to really enjoy getting to know Karli and discovering all that “Karlfornia” has to offer.”

Karli got her start in radio, first as an intern, then as a member of the station’s street team and ultimately as on-air talent for the JoJo on the Radio program on KIIS-FM. She sees herself as an inspiration to young Latinas who are chasing their dreams just as she is doing.

Karli gets her own inspiration from role models such as Jennifer Lopez and Oprah Winfrey for their entertainment success, hard work, leadership and influence on other people and most of all, from her abuelita, who is her heroine.

Raised in a Mexican and Salvadoran family, Karli grew up listening to Vicente Fernandez, Celia Cruz and New Kids on the Block. Today she fills her iPod with tunes by artists such as Belanova, Calle 13 and Kanye West.

Away from work Karli likes shopping, dancing, reading, having some occasional outdoor adventures and spending time with her family. Finding new restaurants, clubs and places to visit are also among her favorite pastimes.

Karli was raised in Hollywood, California until moving to the San Fernando Valley where she graduated from Reseda High School. She plans to pursue a college degree in Business.

Following the premiere of “Karlifornia,” a companion Karli blog will be launched on mtvtr3s.com where viewers will be able to give Karli feedback about the show and comment on everything from her choice of guys, clothes and more.

MTV Tr3s is in 6.2 million Hispanic TV households and 31.9 million total TV households, making it the most-widely distributed TV network dedicated to superserving today’s bicultural Latino youth. MTV Tr3s’ programming is rooted in the fusion of American and Latino music, cultures, lifestyles and languages. Music programming is at the core of MTV Tr3s and the channel features hitmakers, emerging artists and new sounds that resonate with young U.S. Latinos. In addition to music programming, MTV Tr3s programming slate also features lifestyle series, news, documentaries and other long-form programs that celebrate US Latino hybrid identity and culture.”*

Something to please everyone at Reventón in Los Angeles, California

“As Mexican electro-pop group Belanova waltzed through a truly abominable version of the Cure’s classic nugget “Boys Don’t Cry,” all lovers of quality Latin music who were present at the Reventón Super Estrella festival on Saturday at the Los Angeles Coliseum must have said to themselves: “Why am I here?”

But that’s OK. Now in its ninth edition, the annual Reventón, organized by local radio station Super Estrella (107.1 FM), has a long-standing reputation for creating indigestible combinations where the glorious often stands side by side with the downright grotesque.”
