Yahoo! Telemundo today announced its Top 10 Searches for the month ending July 31 (http://yahootelemundo.com/lomasbuscado), which include the Top 10 in overall searches, image searches, as well as the most searched for Men for the month of July, as established by the millions of Yahoo! Telemundo users.

Top Trends in Search for July include:

Top 10 Overall Searches

1. Without Breasts There Is No Paradise (Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso)

2. Miss Universe 2008

3. Animals

4. Monica Bellucci

5. Love and Sex

6. Aracely Arambula

7. Galilea Montijo

8. Marijuana risks

9. Ingrid Betancourt

10. Organic Foods

Sin Senos No Hay Paraíso (literally, Without Breasts There Is No Paradise), is a Spanish-language telenovela that debuted on Telemundo on July 16. A hit in Colombia, the telenovela tells the story of an attractive young prostitute who seeks massive breast implants to attract a rich cocaine smuggler. The show was one of the network’s most-watched premieres ever and, not surprisingly, nabbed this month’s number one spot on the Top 10 Overall Searches. Also topping the list was a group of beautiful women, including Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza, Italian actress Monica Bellucci, and Aracely Arambula, who just announced she is pregnant with boyfriend Luis Miguel’s second child. Rounding out the list was former FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) captive Ingrid Betancourt, whose recent rescue after six-and-a-half years of captivity created a worldwide media frenzy.

Top 10 Image Searches

1. Tattoos

2. Adriana Lima

3. Sceneries

4. Gemma Atkinson

5. Eva Longoria

6. Galilea Montijo

7. Barbara Mori

8. Vanessa Guzman

9. Isabel Madow

10. Naruto

Top 10 Image Searches (cont.)

The number one most searched for image on Yahoo! Telemundo in July was Tattoos – tattoos have experienced a resurgence in popularity in many parts of the world, particularly in North America, South America and Europe. A survey published by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that 24% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 50 have a tattoo.

Victoria’s Secret Supermodel Adriana Lima, an ever-popular name on the Top Searches lists, is still making headlines after it was announced that she and basketball star boyfriend, Marko Jaric of the Minnesota Timberwolves, will be tying the knot. Following in Lima’s footsteps – four more models were among the most searched for images in July: British lingerie model (and reality TV star) Gemma Atkinson; Uruguayan-Mexican actress/model Barbara Mori, star of the hit telenovela remake, Rubi; as well as model Isabel Madow, known for her appearances on the Mexican edition of Big Brother VIP. Mexican actress and model Vanessa Guzman (a former Miss Mexico) also peaked users’ interest as she recently went public with information that she and boyfriend Uberto Bondoni, an actor from Uruguay, were blackmailed for a sex tape that was allegedly taken from their home in Mexico.

Top 10 Men Searches

1. Thomas Beatie

2. Chespirito

3. Lil wayne

4. Don Omar

5. Luis Miguel

6. Vicente Fernandez

7. Juanes

8. Cristiano Ronaldo

9. Tito El Bambino

10. Ricardo Arjona

Ironically, the most searched for man this month is really a woman. Thomas Beatie, the world’s first person to conceive a child after a gender-reassignment operation, gave birth this past month to a healthy baby girl. Mexican television icon Roberto Gómez Bolaños, known to the world as Chespirito, also topped the list. Bolaños, best known for his roles as “El Chavo del Ocho” and “El Chapulín Colorado,” has been touring Latin America to present his play “11 y 12.”

In the number four slot, Puerto Rican Reggaeton star Don Omar has been cleared of all drug and weapons charges in relation to an incident dating back to 2004.The 30-year-old has been on trial in a court in Carolina, Puerto Rico for the last two weeks, after he was arrested in September 2004 by drug enforcement officers, who claim to have found him and two pals smoking marijuana. The agents also allegedly found a gun and $1,200 in cash in his possession. Portuguese footballer and heartthrob Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for Manchester United, has also generated interest amidst speculation about a move to Real Madrid. Last but not least, Guatemalan singer-songwriter, Ricardo Arjona, also generated buzz as he officially launched “Fundación Adentro,” an initiative to teach music to poor children in his native Guatemala.

Every month the Yahoo! Telemundo Top 10 Searches showcases the diverse interests and concerns of U.S. Hispanics around the net, from gorgeous celebrity sightings and salacious political news to funny jokes and the latest consumer obsessions.  The monthly list includes a recap of the Top 10 Overall Searches, Top 10 Image Searches and Top 10 Searches in a revolving category, which changes monthly.  To come up with the Yahoo! Top Searches list, Yahoo! scans anonymous query logs from Yahoo! Search across a variety of categories to see what themes and trends bubble up to the surface. Individual searches are never used to develop these lists.  For more information on Yahoo! Telemundo’s Top 10 Searches, visit www.yahootelemundo.com/lomasbuscado.

Comcast Expands Spanish-Language Coverage of the 2008 Democratic National Convention

“Comcast Corporation, the nation’s leading provider of entertainment, information and communications products and services, and Entravision Communications Corporation have teamed-up to deliver Spanish-language content for the upcoming 2008 Democratic National Convention.

As part of the partnership, Comcast will provide Spanish-language translation services for content and programming from the Democratic National Convention, which will give Entravision up to eight hours of content per day to air across its network of radio and television stations and stream on its websites.

In addition, Comcast Latino, the online destination for Latinos, will stream video content of the Democratic National Convention on its popular site, Comcast.terra.com, which is powered by Terra.com. Terra is the largest original digital content producer for U.S. Hispanics and includes 29 channels in Spanish featuring News, Music, Entertainment, Sports and Terra TV, as well as community areas, blogs and services. Terra.com has 2.6 million unique viewers in the U.S. per month.

“We are excited about this partnership with Entravision and Comcast Latino to provide this important content in Spanish to Latinos across the country,” said David L. Cohen, Executive Vice President, Comcast Corporation. “Many more Latinos will now have the opportunity to be a part of the electoral process and experience the messages conveyed during the Democratic National Convention.”

“The translation and technology services offered by Comcast and Entravision will play an important role in equipping our citizens with the tools to more fully participate in the Convention,” said U.S. Senator Ken Salazar. “For communities who have not engaged in the political process due to language barriers, this partnership provides a tremendous community service.”

“Entravision is pleased to be partnering with Comcast to provide this valuable content to the Latino community,” said Walter F. Ulloa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Entravision. “We are committed to encouraging the Latino community to become engaged in the political process and providing information from the Democratic National Convention through our outlets will allow the messages to reach hundreds of thousands of Spanish-language radio listeners and TV viewers.”

Last month, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) announced that Comcast Corporation will produce simultaneous, online streaming coverage of the Convention in Spanish at DemConvention.com and make available a broad range of Convention content through its signature video on demand service. The DNCC also announced that Comcast has been named the Convention’s Official Cable Television and Video-On-Demand (VOD) provider. The 2008 Democratic National Convention will run from Monday, August 25, until Thursday, August 28, in Denver, Colorado.

“From day one, we set out to make this year’s Convention different – one that is more accessible to the American people and more inclusive of our Party’s ‘big tent,’” said Leah D. Daughtry, CEO of the Democratic National Convention Committee. “Working with Comcast to expand the reach of our unprecedented Spanish language simulcast is yet another example of how we are throwing open the doors of this Convention and bringing all Americans into this historic experience.”

LATINO JOURNAL ENDORSES KEVIN JOHNSON FOR MAYOR - Sacramento

“The Latino Journal, the only publication dedicated to providing information about public policy and government from a Latino perspective, is announcing its endorsement of Sacramento Mayoral Candidate Kevin Johnson. “Although the publication has a statewide and national reach, we still call Sacramento, California our home,” says Adrian Perez, Publisher. “The Mayor’s race is very important to us. These are difficult times and Sacramento needs a leader who can help the city weather through this economic depression. “

Incumbent Mayor Heather Fargo was successor to the late Mayor Joe Serna, Jr., an important Latino leader who was teacher to many Latinos now active in the political realm. Mayor Fargo’s management style is to lead by consensus, a style that has blocked and delayed critical decisions. During Mayor Fargo’s 7-year tenure, crime has increased nearly 50 percent, the city lost control of the Kings Arena (a significant source of revenue), and the city is facing a $58 million budget deficit.

“Mayor Fargo has demonstrated little leadership in tackling flood control and addressing those issues causing our schools to fail our children, which are important issues to us,” adds Perez.

Mayor Fargo’s most prominent competitor is Mr. Kevin Johnson, a native of Sacramento who attended the University of California, Berkeley, played for the National Basketball Association, and retired to become an educator and developer in his old neighborhood of Oak Park.

“Mr. Johnson’s business acumen, genuine concern for our children’s education, and his demonstrated ability to convert a crime ridden and dilapidated neighborhood into a vibrant and energetic place to live are demonstrated skills necessary to be the Mayor of any city,” says Perez. “He has learned how to politic to get critical support, funding, and create collaborations to develop St. Hope Academy, redevelop Oak Park, and ensure high school kids in his school pursue a higher education.”

Although plagued by personal issues that have surfaced during this election, Perez says Mr. Johnson has maintained himself as a competitor and true believer in promoting the best interests of this city. “We need to believe in our justice system and trust it would have taken necessary actions if either of the allegations were true,” says Perez.

“We at the Latino Journal fully support and endorse Mr. Kevin Johnson for Mayor of the City of Sacramento, California,” concludes Perez.”*

“As the title implies, this show highlights South American and Latino artists whose work crosses all media and disciplines, including significant examples by Francis Alÿs, Maria Fernanda Cardoso, Enrique Chagoya, Iran do Espírito Santo, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Alfredo Jaar, Gabriel Kuri, Ana Mendieta, Vik Muniz, Gabriel Orozco, Victor Payan, Rubèn Ortiz Torres, Marcos Ramirez (ERRE) and Perry Vasquez.

Mexican video artist Gustavo Artigas studies identity and social interaction in a literal way in his 2000 DVD work The Rules of the Game. The video depicts two American basketball teams and two Mexican soccer teams playing their games simultaneously on a handball court in the border town of Tijuana. In some cases, identity is explored through nostalgia and traditional images. For María Fernando Cardoso, memory and individual perception play large roles in her installation Cemetery—Vertical Garden, based largely on the Cementario Central in her native Bogotá.”*

As the Spanish-language broadcast home to the top Hispanic sports tournaments in the world, including the FIFA World Cup, Univision will be broadcasting a world-class production celebrating top Hispanic athletes that will take place in front of a live audience from the historic Pasadena Auditorium in Pasadena, California.

This gala red carpet event will feature ten award categories and tributes to some of the most important athletes of our time. Categories include the North American Soccer (Mexican and American Leagues) Best 11; the North American Soccer Player of the Year; Best Hispanic Boxer; Baseball Hispanic All-Star Team; Baseball Hispanic Player of the Year; Basketball Hispanic Player of the Year; American Football Hispanic Player of the Year; the Legends Award; and the Tecate Athlete of the Year award, which will be given to the Male athlete that rose to the top of his sport in 2007. Consumers will also have the opportunity to vote online through Unvision.com for Best Hispanic Female, Best Hispanic Male Athlete of the Year, All-Star Soccer Team of the Year, and All-Star Baseball Team of the Year.

“No one is more passionate about their sports heroes than Hispanic sports fans,” said David Downs, president of Univision Sports. “And as this country’s #1 destination for Hispanic sports fans, Univision is proud to team up with Tecate to recognize the monumental accomplishments of our favorite athletes.”

“We are proud to be the title sponsor for the inaugural Tecate Premios Deportes, which will recognize and celebrate the exceptional talent and accomplishments of Hispanic athletes,” said Carlos Boughton, brand director of Tecate Brand Equity for Heineken USA. “These individuals possess the qualities of our target audience; they embody the character and perseverance needed to succeed in this country. The Tecate Premios Deportes gives us yet another opportunity to strengthen our connection with our consumers through their passion for sports and celebration of Hispanic role models.”

An academy of professional and ex-professional athletes and sports writers, including famed boxer Oscar de la Hoya, popular Mexican ex-soccer goalie Jorge Campos, ex-football great Tony Casillas, NFL Hall of Fame Recipient Anthony Muñoz, former Mexican soccer coach Jesus Bracamontes, and President of the UANL Tigres Enrique Borja, will nominate and select the most accomplished active Hispanic athletes in the various sports categories. In order to be eligible for these awards, athletes must have participated in a televised professional sport in the U.S. during 2007. Judging criteria will be based on the athlete’s statistical excellence; cumulative impact on their team and in the sport; and their reputation as a role model for the Hispanic community.

In an effort to bring sports aficionados even closer to their heroes, cerveza Tecate and Univision will open the doors to the Pasadena Auditorium and invite them to attend the live show. Fourteen hundred seats will be made available to the public, with ticket sale details to be announced at a later date.
