Coca-Cola Telenovela Club Stars, Angélica María and Angélica Vale, Treat Fans to a Memorable Red-Carpet Event

“The Coca-Cola Telenovela Club celebrated the ugliest novela in the prettiest city in America this weekend. Several fans of the popular novela, “La Fea Más Bella,” were treated to a weekend getaway to Miami Beach, compliments of the latest Coca-Cola Telenovela Club consumer promotion. Fans and their guests attended a red carpet, Hollywood-style party at the popular Tantra Restaurant and Lounge on South Beach, where they met and dined with telenovela legend Angélica María and her daughter Angélica Vale.

“Our fans are such an important part of our lives and we strive to pick projects, such as ‘La Fea Más Bella,’ that they will enjoy,” said María and Vale in a joint statement. “Our association with the Coca-Cola Telenovela Club allows us to meet our fans and let them know just how much we appreciate them.”

“The Coca-Cola Telenovela Club reaches consumers online through My Coke Rewards as well as through local retail and radio promotions. With this promotion consumers have the opportunity to win prizes and experiences they may have only dreamed of,” said Reinaldo Padua, assistant vice president, Hispanic Marketing, Coca-Cola North America.

This year, the Coca-Cola Telenovela Club and Dress for Success Miami celebrated the importance of inner beauty and outer appearance, which was pivotal to the storyline of “La Fea Más Bella”. Dress for Success Miami is a women’s program that trains and suits women in Miami-Dade County who are struggling to secure and retain employment. The Coca-Cola Company gave the organization a cash donation and actual wardrobe items from the novela to auction off at future fundraising events.

“In partnering with Dress for Success Miami, the Coca-Cola Telenovela Club aims to take ‘dream making’ to a new level by making the dreams of women needing assistance in obtaining work also come true. We couldn’t be happier to work with an organization that has touched so many lives,” said Padua.

Coca-Cola North America also revealed details of the next phase of the Telenovela Club consumer promotion. Scheduled to run from September 1 to October 31, it will celebrate the novela, “Destilando Amor”. Telenovela fans will be able to redeem points for prizes related to “Destilando Amor,” such as recipe booklets, memorabilia, a flat screen television and DVDs.

In addition, participants will have another chance to enter a sweepstakes to meet their favorite celebrities during a dream weekend in Miami next year. “

Dodger legend Fernando Valenzuela to be honored at inaugural “Premios Deportes” sports awards today - “Premios Deportes” will air nationally on Univision Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m. ET/PT

“National Spanish-language television network Univision will honor Dodger Legend Fernando Valenzuela at the first annual “Premios Deportes” today at 8 p.m. The awards show will be broadcasted nationally this Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m. on Univision. Valenzuela will be honored as one of the most prominent Hispanic athletes in history with a lifetime achievement award, “Premio Leyenda Deportiva.”

Prior to the ceremony, Valenzuela will partake in a celebrity-filled red carpet celebration at the historic Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena at 7 p.m. Hispanic sports stars who will appear alongside Valenzuela include famed boxer Oscar de la Hoya, legendary Mexican soccer goalie Jorge Campos, retired NFL player Tony Casillas, NFL Hall of Fame recipient Anthony Muñoz, former Mexican soccer coach Jesús Bracamontes, and legendary Mexican forward Enrique Borja.

One of the most storied players in Los Angeles Dodger history, pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, became the only person in Major League history to win both the Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Awards in the same season (1981). The 20 year-old was an emergency starter on Opening Day because of injuries to Jerry Reuss and Burt Hooton, but a complete-game 2-0 victory that afternoon in front of 55,000 at Dodger Stadium against the Houston Astros became the start of “Fernandomania.” Valenzuela began the campaign with an 8-0 record, including five shutouts, and by the summer was the guest of the White House in Washington D.C. at a reception hosted by the president of Mexico. Valenzuela helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 1981 and overall won 141 games with Los Angeles through 1990.

Valenzuela is now in his sixth season as a Dodger Spanish-language broadcaster. He serves as the color commentator on the Dodgers’ Spanish-radio broadcasts on KHJ/La Ranchera 930 AM alongside colleagues Pepe Yñiguez and Hall of Famer Jaime Jarrín.

Univision Radio personality Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, Univision’s Fernando Fiore of “República Deportiva,” and popular novela actress Angélica Vale will host the “Premios Deportes” gala event. “Premios Deportes” honor Hispanic athletes in ten different categories who have been selected for their character, talent and perseverance, as well as their contributions to and impact on the Hispanic community. “Premios Deportes” will air this Sunday, July 20 locally at 3 p.m. on KMEX-TV channel 34.”*

Angélica Vale on the December/January Cover of Siempre Mujer

“Angélica Vale, star of La Fea más Bella, opens up in Siempre Mujer’s December/January issue about her New Year’s resolutions, her acting career that began at two-years-old and what she desires most in 2008. Excerpts from the issue, on newsstands nationwide, follow:

About going after that lead role: “Maybe because I’m not Barbie-type – blonde, thin, blue eyed –, it was impossible for people to see me as the protagonist in a telenovela.” But, she says: “Even though the big opportunity wasn’t coming, I couldn’t get angry or upset. I kept preparing myself so that, if it did come, I wouldn’t miss out because I wasn’t ready.”

One of her New Year’s goals: “Come January 1st, like every other year, I’ll think about getting back to the gym.” Then, she laughingly admits: “Also, like every other year, that thought will probably only last a few days.”

About her dreams of finding love: “I’ve always been a romantic. But it doesn’t mean you lose faith if you haven’t achieved much success. I know that God will send me someone very special, and that every day I’m a little closer.”
