Mexican actor Eduardo Verastegui is featured in a Yes on Proposition 4 television ad unveiled by the campaign today. Release of the Spanish-language ad comes just days after a poll of California voters showed strong support for the parental notification and child protection initiative among Latinos. A Field Poll published Sept. 26 revealed that Hispanics favor Proposition 4 by 62% to 31%. If adopted on Nov. 4, Proposition 4 would amend the state constitution to require that a physician notify a parent or other adult family member when a girl 17 years old or younger seeks an abortion. In the ad, which runs just under a minute and a half long, Verastegui says family involvement is the best way to ensure that a girl gets the best medical care and understands all her options. He also notes that adult men who sexually abuse young girls often resort to secret abortions to cover up their crimes. The Yes on 4 campaign has posted the ad on YouTube so that anyone can view it, and post a link to it on their own web site. Verastegui is well known among Spanish-speakers for his roles in various popular soap operas, viewed in more than 20 countries worldwide, including an estimated audience of more than 10 million in the United States. Early in his career, Verastegui toured the world as a member of the popular Mexican singing group Kairo. He later starred in the films “Chasing Papi” and “Meet Me In Miami.” He has also made frequent appearances in popular primetime television programs in the United States. In 2006, Verastegui starred in the heartwarming film “Bella.”
