Five years after arriving in Central Florida, El Nuevo Día Orlando, the region’s only daily Spanish-language newspaper, is closing.

La Magica (the Magic) was an AM station with a mere 1,000 watts. But it marked the beginning of a new era in Central Florida radio, spawning a format that has become a leading force locally. With three FM stations and at least 10 AM stations, the Orlando Spanish-language radio market has grown exponentially and now competes head-to-head with English-language radio for advertising revenue and audience share.
