"Plaza Bank, based in Seattle, Washington, announces that it surpassed $100 million in assets one month before its third anniversary. The Bank was founded on the principles of serving business and individual customers with a focus on the Latino community.

"This is quite an achievement for any bank during these troubled times," President and CEO Carlos Guangorena admits. "I'm proud of the team we've assembled and appreciative of the businesses and individuals who have put their trust in Plaza Bank. We are doing everything we can to continue to earn their trust and provide a world-class banking experience."

Significantly, this accomplishment was reached while operating from two locations, unusual for a de novo bank. As Plaza Bank enters its fourth year of business, Guangorena cautions that there is still work to do. “The Bank achieved this milestone in a challenging environment. We have to stay focused on credit quality and service during these tough times."

Meanwhile, Plaza Bank continues to reach out to minorities:

* Its total loans to women and minorities were over 40 percent of total loan balances outstanding at the

close of 2008.

* Approximately 70 percent of its consumer loans are to Hispanics.
* About 23 percent of its commercial loans are to Latinos.

Plaza Bank is a locally-owned community commercial bank serving the Seattle Metropolitan area and offering quality services and products to businesses, non-profit organizations and consumers with a focus on Hispanic businesses and consumers. The Bank is one of only three which have been designated as FDIC Minority Depository Institutions in the Pacific Northwest. The Kent Station branch in Kent is open Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am - 5 pm; Fridays 9:30 am - 6 pm. The Downtown Seattle office is open 9 am - 5pm weekdays. For more information about Plaza Bank, call 206-436-7600 or visit www.plazabankwa.com. "

"The Mariners have celebrated Latinos in baseball annually in recent years. In 2008, they will do so as Los Marineros.

Players will don the same white home uniforms Saturday afternoon against the Detroit Tigers at Safeco Field, with one distinguishable difference — the front of their jerseys will say "Marineros," the Spanish translation of the team name.

It will be the first time the team has done so, and is the most prominent gesture of all of the team's previous yearly salutes to Latin American "beisbol.""

"The winter quarter ratings book from The Arbitron Co. was a good one for Spanish-language radio in the Seattle-Tacoma market. Three such stations placed in the top 31 among all listeners.

Which adds an element of curiosity to Salem Communications Inc.'s recent decision to sell KKMO-AM/1360, marketed as Radio Sol.

According to a filing with the Federal Communications Commission, Salem has agreed to sell KKMO, one of five AM stations it owns in this market, to Intelli LLC of San Jose, Calif., for $3.69 million."

"As a bonus to its highly recommended exhibit "American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music," Experience Music Project presents the greatest salsa band of all time — El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico — at 8 tonight at EMP.

With its 40-year-plus legacy of more than 50 albums, including a Grammy-winning 40th anniversary concert disc, El Gran Combo is the real deal — salsa as it has been danced to in Puerto Rico, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Curaçao and beyond for more than four decades. With saxophones, trumpets and trombone answering the call of an infectious vocal trio — which in turn follows its own lead-and-chorus patterns — and a thicket of percussion thrusting the music forward, El Gran Combo creates an irresistible mix for dancing or listening."

Despite their diverse backgrounds, the message repeated by all at Monday's trade and immigration round table converged at a single point: U.S. immigration policy has been broken for too long, and it is sapping trade, the lifeblood of Washington state.

"When I walk into a grocery store and to the produce station, I see hands," said Josh Koempel, the manager of Potentiality Orchards in Cashmere. "Whether pears, apples, cherries, peaches or apricots, they have all been touched by hands, multiple times.""

Mariachi music trumped the drizzle as band members played to the performance of Concord Elementary School dancers and young members from El Centro de la Raza holding photos of Chavez chanting "Si se puede" or "Yes we can."
