"Norsan Multimedia, the largest Hispanic Media Group in North Carolina announces the format switch of La Tremenda, 1310 AM to a news talk station, Radio Formula: starting June 29th, 2009. Radio Formula is an internationally known syndicated talk show produced in Mexico and appeals to the immigrant market in the U.S. The network delivers a wide variety of programs that will keep the targeted audience fully engaged. People who enjoy this type of programming will get information, news, sports, family matters, gossip and entertainment shows, among others.

"By bringing Radio Formula to Charlotte, we are filling an existing gap in the Spanish radio offerings in the market. We are pleased to present this new option to our wide audience," said Norberto Sanchez, Norsan Multimedia's CEO. Sanchez added that this programming has proven to be successful in similar markets due to the presence of recognized journalists and on-air personalities of Mexican television and radio, such as: Ricardo Rocha, Joaquin Lopez Doriga, Eduardo Ruiz-Healy, Enrique "El Perro" Bermudez, Maxine Woodside, Alfredo Palacios, among others. He also noted, "Our Hispanic radio programming wouldn't be complete without a segment for local news and community information. On Radio Formula 1310 AM we are very pleased to be able to offer free air-time to non-profit and other well recognized organizations that serve Latinos in Charlotte and surrounding counties."

"By the inclusion of Radio Formula 1310 AM to our portfolio of radio properties in Charlotte, we are sure to reach 100% of the Spanish speaking audience in the market," said Edgar Saucedo, General Manager of Norsan Multimedia. He added, "Radio Formula's programming appeals to a more mature, educated audience; this segment of listeners often like to hear about an array of political topics, analysis of current events and different points of view in economics, sports, immigration, among others."

"But there is also entertainment through a well known gossip program about singers, soap opera stars, etc. There is even a folk tale terror midnight show!" added Sergio Garcia, operations manager for Norsan Broadcasting.

La Tremenda 1310 AM was the first radio station acquired by Norsan Group in Charlotte five years ago. Later, other stations were added to Norsan's local portfolio: La Raza 106.1 FM (Regional Mexican), Latina 102.3 FM (Pop and Tropical in Spanish), and Alfa 1060 AM (the only full Christian Spanish station).

Norsan Multimedia has a total of 10 radio stations in the Southeastern U.S. In addition to the Charlotte market, Norsan Multimedia has strong presence in Jacksonville, FL; Knoxville, TN; and Columbia, SC.

In August 2008, Norsan Multimedia bought Mi Gente Spanish Newspaper and a couple months ago, the website: http://www.descubrecharlotte.com.

"s of Thursday, January 1, 2009, WOLS 106.1 FM will be operated by Norsan Media, becoming the newest Spanish Language FM station in Charlotte and the second FM here for Norsan Media, the group that also publishes the weekly "Mi Gente".
According to Edgar Saucedo, general manager of Norsan Media, WOLS 106.1 FM will be the new home of La Raza, the Mexican regional format that has been aired on WGSP 102.3 FM, also property of Norsan Media.
"I'm happy to continue growing in Charlotte; as of today, we are the strongest Spanish media in the Carolinas. This will provide a competitive advantage that will benefit our audience and customers," said Norberto Sanchez, CEO of Norsan Media.
According to Sergio Garcia, Norsan Broadcasting Operations Manager, the new acquisition will allow Norsan Media to reach a different segment of the population, which has been underserved for years.
"The programming will be based on tropical hits and pop in Spanish, something new and fresh for our diverse audience. Charlotte is growing in Hispanic diversity and we do not want to be left out. We need to keep up this momentum," said Garcia.
WOLS 106.1 and its powerful 21,000 watts will cover Gastonia, Rock Hill, Lancaster, Kannapolis, Charlotte, Union County, and North Mecklenburg along with a neat, high quality sound that will allow listeners to continue enjoying the successful programming of La Raza 102.3 FM, home to the national show Piolin por la Manana.
Currently, Norsan Media has 10 radio stations in its portfolio: WGSP 102.3 FM La Raza, WGSP 1310 AM La Tremenda, WXNC 1060 AM Latino Hits in Charlotte, as well as WKGN 1340 AM in Knoxville, TN, WFAY 1230 AM in Fayetteville, NC, WCEO 840 AM in Columbia, SC, and four other stations in Jacksonville, FL, WVOJ 1570 AM, WSOS 1170 AM, WEWC 1160 AM and WNNR 970 AM.
"All of the changes are positive for the development and growth of our company. We are putting ourselves in a position to be a major player in the Charlotte broadcasting industry," said Sanchez.
Norsan Broadcasting's media hub is located in Charlotte, NC. In addition to the eleven radio stations (including WOLS 106.1 FM), Norsan Media has another Spanish Newspaper, "Hola Noticias," in Jacksonville, FL"

Another Spanish station is heading to the powerful FM dial in Charlotte, the third to go on the air since 2006. Starting Jan. 1, Norsan Media will take over the signal of WOLS-FM (106.1), an English-language oldies station. It will carry the Mexican regional format of Norsan’s WRML-FM (“La Raza” 102.3), and WRML will adopt a new Spanish pop-tropical format.

This joint venture creates the most powerful mass media Latino conglomerate in the Charlotte Metro region, with print, radio and Internet outlets.

"We have decided to invest in Mi Gente because it has persistently pursued a mission to offer excellent journalism and coverage of relevant issues to the Charlotte Hispanic Community," said Norberto Sánchez, CEO of Norsan Media.

With the joint venture, the editorial content of Hola Noticias, a Norsan Media Group Charlotte weekly newspaper, will be incorporated in Mi Gente.

"Through Hola Noticias we will have the best coverage in several significant subjects, among them, education, health and community services. For a long time Mi Gente has been the indisputable leader in reporting immigration, political, and police matters," said Rafael Prieto, Publisher and Editor of Mi Gente.

Norsan Media Group is offering special packages to advertisers, which include radio, print, Internet and new media combo options.

The synergy between Norsan Media and Mi Gente will play a crucial role in producing newscasts and community programs for La Raza 102.3 FM, La Tremenda 1310 AM and Latino Hits 1060 AM.

The first issue of Mi Gente was published on March 18, 2002. With a circulation of 25,000 copies, audited by Circulation Verification Council (CVC), Mi Gente reaches over 125,000 readers every week, in 14 counties of North and South Carolina. Mi Gente, which is printed at The Charlotte Observer, will continue delivering its outstanding opinion section as well its colorful, easy-to-read, easy-to-carry, 64 pages format.

Mi Gente has won six national journalism awards in the last two years -- five from the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) and one from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).

Norsan Group is based in Atlanta, GA and owns one of the fastest growing Latino broadcasting groups in the country, with stations in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
