“Nampa high school art students, many who had never picked up a paint brush before, are showing their work in an exhibit celebrating Latino art and culture throughout February.

Art created by mostly Hispanic students from both Columbia and Nampa high schools can be seen from 9 to 5 p.m. daily at the Hispanic Cultural Center.”

“Idaho’s Hispanic community is youthful, growing and registered to vote in ever-larger numbers, according to a new report that indicates the states largest minority group could play a larger role in public affairs in years to come.

The Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs will introduce the report today at the Capitol, marking the second time it has collected the data from sources including the U.S. Census. The first was in 2005.”

City services must often wait for an interpreter to arrive on the scene of an emergency before they can assist Spanish speaking victims.”

“Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter has endorsed a proposal to deny state services to people who cannot provide valid proof of U.S. residency.

In his State of the State speech to the Idaho Legislature on Monday, Otter urged lawmakers to back a bill sponsored by state Sen. John McGee, R-Caldwell. The bill specifically limits taxpayer-supported benefits to those who demonstrate residency with state-approved identification.”

“Wells Fargo Home Mortgage has opened a Nampa branch office that area real estate agents believe is the first Treasure Valley bank tailored exclusively for the Spanish-speaking market.

The Nampa branch opened July 31 at 1812 N. Midland with a bilingual staff of four and office decor featuring Latino, African-American and Asian artwork. It’s one of 35 alternative branches that Wells Fargo plans to open this year.”
