Nampa Hispanic forum focuses on information distrubution - Idaho

“Hispanic entrepreneurial businesses need more information as they open in Nampa, mayor Tom Dale told business owners and development officials.

“Maybe we need to require a business license program in the city,” said Dale, relating the point that the city currently doesn’t require a business license to open shop. “Maybe, we require a permit and at the same time we ask them about their business, whether they have a business plan, an outlook or a need for financing, and at that point we give them the information that is available.””*

“”It’s unfair for people to say that,” said Dwight, Region V Idaho Health and Welfare self-reliance supervisor in Twin Falls, at a meeting of the Hispanic Business and Professionals Network.

People who think that illegal residents are sucking up welfare benefits are running on emotion, not facts, she added.

Not a whole lot of people who are in the country illegally come into Health and Welfare offices to apply for benefits for themselves, said Shanahan, state Health and Welfare spokesman. “It’s pretty rare.” If they do come in, they are applying for their children, who may be eligible.”*
