“Úrsula Hilaria Celia Caridad Cruz Alfonso, Celia Cruz or simply Celia, who hailed from the humble Havana neighborhood of Santos Suárez, would become one of Latin music’s seminal figures, and probably the most recognized Cuban female singer.

A popular off-Broadway musical, Celia: The Life and Music of Celia Cruz, celebrates her 60-year career and, after an extended run in New York — scheduled to end in December, the show’s success kept it onstage until last month — starts its international tour Wednesday at Miami’s Arsht Center, with shows in Spanish and English.”*

Hispanics are online, but advertisers miss out - Targeting Hispanics online means more than just translating ads to Spanish. A conference in Miami Beach focused on how to get a piece of the rapidly growing Hispanic audience within digital media.

In South Florida, Eviction Spares Few - (almost everyone in this article from the New York Times is Latino)

Filed under [ Business ] [ People ] [ Real Estate ] [ Your Money ] [ Eye Openers ] [ Florida ]

“It used to take a day or two for officers to get to an address after tenants received a notice to leave. Now, with evictions up by roughly a third over last year, Miami-Dade’s backlog is around two weeks, sometimes longer.

“It is what it is,” Officer Fernandez said, looking at a list of addresses about to be emptied. “People of all walks of life are getting evicted.”

If South Florida is a barometer for the housing crisis and the economy, the forecast does not look good. Like other areas nationwide, evictions are rising throughout the state, clogging county courts and spawning a boom in companies that specialize in “eviction services” like moving furniture to the curb.”*

Democrats See Cuba Travel Limits as a Campaign Issue in Florida

“Cuban-Americans can visit the island of Cuba only once every three years, so because he spent 12 days there last October, he must wait, hoping and praying that his mother, who has cancer, lives until 2010.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” Mr. Garrote said. “If you have sick relatives, you should have a right to see them. That’s not political.”

Miami being Miami, however, the policy is political and always has been. President Bush tightened the travel rules just months before the 2004 election at the behest of Cuban-American hard-liners, and this year, Democrats are trying hard to exploit growing frustration with the law’s impact.”*
