Procter & Gamble (P&G) announced the Title Sponsorship of the 82nd League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Annual National Convention and Expo which is being held in Cincinnati, Ohio, home to P&G headquarters, from June 27 – July 2, 2011. LULAC is the largest and oldest Hispanic organization gather to address critical issues impacting our community and our country.

This year, the Convention theme is Bridging the Gap: Expanding the Latino Agenda Into New Frontiers and is expected to bring 20,000 visitors to the Duke Energy Convention Center.

Today, LULAC leaders were joined by Melanie Healey, the North American President for P&G, to share details about the Sponsorship of the Convention & Expo.

“Supporting LULAC’s Annual National Convention is the perfect fit for P&G as a continuation of our long-standing partnership to touch and improve the lives of our Latino community on their road to success and prosperity,” said Healey. “We are honored to be hosting the convention in our hometown of Cincinnati and we encourage everyone in the community to take part in this great event.”

At the opening of the exposition on Wednesday, June 29, P&G will be unveiling its interactive home experience booth, “Casa P&G”, where attendees will be able to try out for free the innovation behind P&G’s trusted brands, as well as sign up for a chance to win a free P&G product basket raffled off every hour.

Expo attendees visiting the P&G booth will be greeted by experts for guided consultations and products demonstrations for beauty, personal care and home care brands including Covergirl, Olay, Pantene, Crest, Always, Secret, Tide, Downy, Dawn, Bounty, Charmin, Gain, Bounce, and Febreze.

Those interested in learning more about employment and supplier diversity opportunities at P&G can visit the Diversity and Inclusion area of the booth.

There will also be activities for the young children at the P&G Young Readers’ Corner, a lounge area with a library where they can relax and have fun, be it reading on their own or being read to by special guests, including Captain America and renowned journalist and author Maria Antonieta Collins.

The Convention is the Nation’s premier Latino gathering and brings together leaders in government, business, labor and the community for a week filled with renowned speakers, important seminars, celebrities and exciting entertainment. Seminars and workshops will feature expert panelists addressing the issues that affect Latino communities most, from immigration reform and education to health care and civil rights. Separate tracks for Youth and Young Adults provide emerging Latino leaders with workshops on community service, leadership development, career opportunities and advocacy training.

“LULAC has had a long and productive partnership with P&G,” stated Margaret Moran, LULAC National President. “From scholarships to technology centers and from our Young Readers program to our national convention, P&G has worked hand in hand with LULAC to address the needs of the fastest growing population in the United States. We are delighted to be coming to P&G’s headquarters city with our national convention and we are grateful for their strong support of our organization and our community.”

According to the latest Census figures, the Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area is home to 125,000 Latinos and is one of the fastest-growing Hispanic communities in the nation. In Cincinnati proper, the Census estimates the Hispanic population to have doubled over the last 10 years. This emerging Latino community is re-defining the social, demographic and cultural landscape of Cincinnati and it creates the ideal context for the LULAC National Convention to open dialogue and forge partnerships.

“The impact of the LULAC convention on Cincinnati USA is profound," said Dan Lincoln, president and CEO of the Cincinnati USA Convention and Visitors Bureau. "More than 20,000 attendees, millions of dollars for the regional economy, the sense of community pride in hosting such a significant event. But even more importantly, our friends at LULAC are gathering influential people and big thinkers right here in Cincinnati to spark creative dialogue, share ideas and inspire positive change for our neighborhoods, our communities and our businesses. The impact will ripple out from Cincinnati across the country and around the world, and we're proud to be a part of it.”

Additional local sponsors of the 2011 LULAC Annual National Convention and Expo include: Duke, Kroger, Luxottica, Macy's, Xavier University, University of Cincinnati, and the Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Hollywood rolls out the red carpet for the best Latino Cinema from around the world for the 15th Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF). The festival will run from Sunday July 17 through Monday July 25, 2011 in the heart of the entertainment capital. www.latinofilm.org

LALIFF, co-founded by Oscar® nominated & Golden Globe and Emmy winner actor, director, and activist Edward James Olmos, celebrates the diversity and richness of the best of emerging and established Latino talent in cinema. The festival’s mission is to support and promote the development and exhibition of the work by Latino filmmakers including producers, directors, writers and actors, as well as movies that depict Latino culture.

Since its inception in 1997, LALIFF has grown to become an internationally renowned festival that attracts and unites film enthusiasts from a culturally diverse audience from the Los Angeles community, as well as industry executives and Hollywood celebrities. Through the years, LALIFF has hosted the premieres of hundreds of Latino films, many of which have followed their world premieres at the prestigious Cannes, Toronto, Venice and San Sebastian film festivals.

The Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences validates the festival’s films excellence by recognizing LALIFF as a qualifying festival for the Academy’s Short Film Category for the Oscar® race. LALIFF and the Academy’s Film Archive have also established the LALIFF Collection where Latino films are preserved and available for free viewing to the public.

LALIFF 2011 will present feature films, documentaries, shorts and special screenings. In addition, filmmakers and the public will be able to participate in workshops presented by the Writers Guild and Directors Guilds of America as well as musical and arts events.
