New population estimates released by the U.S. Census Bureau Thursday show Wisconsin’s Hispanic population has increased by 41% since 2000 and reached 5%.

The new demographic data estimates Stanislaus County’s white non-Hispanic population was 50.2 percent of the county’s total, with Hispanics making up 39 percent – California

Forsyth County’s Hispanic population grew 8 percent last year and accounted for almost 40 percent of the county’s population growth, new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show. But some local Hispanics said yesterday that the jobs Hispanics have held in the local economy are becoming harder to find, causing some workers to leave or consider leaving. – North Carolina

Census estimates also show 78 of Nebraska’s 93 counties had an increase in Hispanic population and a decrease in white, non-Hispanic population over the seven-year span (2000-2007).

Coastwide, census figures through July 1, 2007, show the Hispanic population in Harrison, Jackson and Hancock counties grew from 11,538 in 2005 to 12,094 – an increase of 4.8%. Growth between 2000 and July of last year was much stronger, at 42.4%. – Mississippi

Zayas was one of the 14,409 newcomers to Tippecanoe County from 2000 to 2007, during which time the population grew by 9.7%. That was more than double the state’s growth rate of 4.4% during the same time. – Indiana

Latinos continue to be the fastest-growing population in Oregon — five to six times faster than whites in the Portland metropolitan area, new U.S. Census Bureau figures show. In Multnomah and Clark counties, the number of Hispanics climbed the most, by 7% in 2007, while Washington and Clackamas counties each saw a 6% increase last year.

From 2000 to 2007, Ottawa County’s population grew 8.77%, from 238,314 to 259,206. The county’s overall Hispanic population grew from 16,692 to 20,804, an increase of 24.63%. – Michigan

The number of Hispanics in most Arizona counties is increasing far faster than that of other groups. New figures today from the U.S. Census Bureau, show that the state gained more than 89,000 people who identify themselves as Hispanics in the year ending July 1, 2007.

North Carolina’s Hispanic population is continuing its rapid expansion, according to U.S. Census numbers released today. The Hispanic population grew by nearly 8 percent in the year that ended July 1, 2007, while the state’s population as a whole grew by only 2.2 percent, the data show.

The Hispanic population is growing in Tulsa and across the state, despite fears that a tough anti-illegal immigration law would drive out many in that community. Detailed U.S. Census numbers for 2007 show a 7.2 percent increase in Hispanics in Tulsa County, compared with the year before. The statewide increase was 5.5 percent. Out of 77 counties, only six saw their Hispanic population decrease during the same time period.

Hispanics are on pace to outnumber black people in Hartford and New Haven counties for the first time in history, according to new population data from the U.S. Census Bureau. – Connecticut

Young Hispanic families are increasingly choosing the Lower Hudson Valley as a place to settle down and have children, a Journal News analysis of new census data suggests. While the region as a whole remains predominantly white non-Hispanic, young families with small children may soon be mostly Hispanic.

In St. Johns County the number of Hispanics swelled by nearly 13% from 2006 to 2007 and doubled since 2000, according to census estimates released today. In Duval County, the population adds new Hispanic residents at six times the rate of overall growth. – Jacksonville, Florida area

A surge in Hispanic immigration over the past decade has dramatically altered the racial and ethnic composition of the region’s youngest residents, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures released today. – Washington DC area

Los Ángeles is the county with the largest number of Latinos in the nation. New information coming from the Census Bureau offers no big surprises, given today’s immigration trends, birth rates and the history of our city, but it reveals only a fraction of what this means for our future.
