"A study by South Dakota State University shows that the Hispanic population in the state has grown substantially in recent years. South Dakota had the nation's sixth-largest percentage increase in Hispanics in the first half of the decade, the SDSU study says. "(Hispanics) are coming here at quite a rapid rate and they've become an important part of society in South Dakota," said Trevor Brooks, a graduate research assistant with the SDSU Rural Life Census Data Center in Brookings and author of the study."

School employees taking Spanish to prepare for possible changes – South Dakota

"Sixteen people from Aberdeen who work with children and parents are gearing up for the possibility of more Spanish-speaking students entering the citys schools. Most of the 16 who took an introductory course in Spanish at Central High School are classroom teachers. But the group included a school nurse, a Head Start educator, a school administrative assistant and a school speech therapist."

South Dakota: Spanish newscast offered

"KDLT is offering a Spanish newscast, according to a news release from the station. Mondays 10 p.m. newscast was to be rebroadcast at 2:10 this morning, according to the press release. Early morning rebroadcasts will continue daily at 2:10, it states."
