The National Society of Hispanic MBAs (NSHMBA) will hold its Annual Conference and Career Expo October 8 - 10 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, MN. Over 8,000 MBA students, professionals, and executives will converge in Minneapolis to engage with top Hispanic leaders in America. The Career Expo boasts more than 250 corporations and academic institutions, and more than 4,000 on-site interviews. The conference theme, "Think Ahead, Move Forward," exemplifies the essence of the conference - presenting opportunities for the MBA student and professional to broaden their future and advance in the development of their relationships with peers and employers while gaining access to valuable resources.

This year, NSHMBA is pleased to have Target as corporate lead sponsor and Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota as the academic lead sponsor. "It is an honor to partner with lead sponsors who are actively engaged with the NSHMBA mission of fostering Hispanic leadership, dedicating effort and resources to guarantee the success of our endeavor," said Steve A. Ramos, NSHMBA Interim CEO.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, October 9 at 8:20 a.m. with the attendance of Mr. Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota; Isaias Zamarripa, Director of Talent Acquisition, General Mills and Chair of NSHMBA Corporate Advisory Board; Cosette Gutierrez, Chair of NSHMBA Board of Directors; Anthony Heredia, Vice President of Corporate Risk and Responsibility, Target; and Steve Ramos, NSHMBA Interim CEO.

NSHMBA's three-day conference features a Professional Development Day, an exclusive Executive Forum, a Research Forum, a Career Management Center, and the nation's largest career expo for Hispanic MBAs. The Professional Development Day includes breakout sessions presented by leading corporate executives and business experts, and an Executive Forum created to provide a venue for high-level Hispanic executives to convene and address the challenges and demands Hispanic executives face in corporate America.

During the conference, NSHMBA will recognize Hispanic scholarship recipients from across the country who have been recently awarded financial assistance through the NSHMBA Scholarship Program and the NSHMBA University Partnership Program.

During the final evening gala on Saturday night sponsored by Target, NSHMBA will present the prestigious Brillante Awards for Excellence awards, with Maria Celeste Arraras as the events Emcee. Ms. Arraras is host and managing editor of "Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste," the most talked about newsmagazine in Hispanic television, airing nationwide in the U.S. and 15 Latin American countries, and produced by Telemundo/NBC.

The Brillante Awards evening gala brings the conference to a spectacular close with an extraordinary concert by Alejandro Fernandez, a popular Latin Grammy-winning Mexican singer who has sold over 15 million copies in over 20 countries. He is an authentic ambassador of Mexico.

"Minnetronix, a medical device design and manufacturing firm, is proud to announce the appointment of Charles Garcia, Business Development Manager, as President of the Twin Cities Professional Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

SHPE was founded in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the City of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community. The organization was formed on the belief that heritage, social responsibility and a desire to improve the equality of all people, can be achieved through the use of science and technology.

The concept of networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation.

Garcia, who was first introduced to SHPE while attending Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo, Calif.), quickly recognized the strength of the organization as a professional and unique collaboration of individuals that prepared students for a successful engineering career.

Garcia shared, “The local SHPE Professional Chapter has made great strides in promoting the organization and contributing to the community in a positive manner. As President of the Twin Cities SHPE Professional Chapter, I look forward to assisting the organization in improving their visibility and promoting the essence of the organization, furthering the message of excellence in education, professional pursuits and leadership.”

"Fresh from covering the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, last week, HITN, the first national Spanish-Language Public Television Network in the United States, continues to take the lead by providing historic, nightly, primetime coverage of the Republican National Convention through Thursday, September 4.

HITN's live coverage begins at 7 p.m. (ET) directly from the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The telecast, with award-winning broadcast journalist Marlene Fernandez as anchor in Minneapolis, and award-winning journalists Malin Falu and Gerson Borrerro as anchors in HITN's New York studios, is a special presentation of HITN's Destination Casa Blanca 2008 cable television show. The show's format includes guest interviews, analysis, commentary from community-based organizations, and live calls from the viewing audience.

A first in television history, Destination Casa Blanca 2008, the Latino Voice in the Presidential Election, provides an English-language, nation-wide news program focusing solely on issues of importance to the Hispanic community. "Our goal is to provide the Hispanic population with the knowledge necessary to understand issues that affect our communities and with knowledge that will ultimately empower our viewers to make choices and their voices heard in the electoral process," said Jose Luis Rodriguez, Founder and President of HITN. "We want our audience to experience and understand the process that goes into the making of a President so that they can be educated voters. I am proud to say that HITN is the only network that has provided comprehensive coverage of both political conventions for two consecutive weeks," he added.

About HITN: The Hispanic Information and Telecommunications Network, Inc. (HITN) was established in 1983 as a non-profit organization.

"The Hispanic Leadership Fund today announced that it will hold a concert during the Republican National Convention featuring Latin recording artist and Reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee. The Fiesta Americana Concert, co-hosted with The Latino Coalition and the Hispanic Alliance for Prosperity Institute, will be held on September 1, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. at MYTH nightclub in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Approximately 3000 convention delegates and special guests are expected to attend, including members of Minnesota’s rapidly growing Hispanic community.

This event will showcase the Hispanic community and demonstrate a clear message of support for key issues such as tough, but fair immigration reform, free trade in the Americas and prosperity through ownership. This event will also allow for an opportunity to highlight sharp policy differences between Senators John McCain and Barack Obama regarding these issues, and will kick off Convention week in great style.

Headline artist Daddy Yankee, chosen by TIME magazine as one of the “100 Most Influential People in the World,” is a rising star in Reggaeton – a music genre he helped create. In 2008, he won Billboard Latin Music Awards for Album of the Year and Reggaeton Album of the Year.

Throughout his career, Daddy Yankee has been involved in philanthropic activities and shown support for key issues affecting the Hispanic population. At a recent event with Senator McCain in Arizona, Daddy Yankee said: “I am here endorsing Senator McCain because I believe in his ideals and his proposals to lead this nation. And like I said before, he has been a fighter for the Hispanic community, and I know that for me personally, I chose him as the best candidate because he has been a fighter for the immigration issue.”

The Hispanic Leadership Fund is a non-partisan advocacy organization dedicated to promoting common-sense public policy solutions rooted in free enterprise, limited government, and individual freedom.
The main purpose for these forums are to increase awareness of health problem prevention; to generate more involvement and have more informed dialogue that empowers children and families without health care coverage."

"Jose Torres participated in the first Day of the Immigrant three years ago, when the event sparked work stoppages across Minnesota and sent thousands of protesters into the streets to demand immigration reform.

On Thursday, he was among hundreds of demonstrators who marched to the State Capitol for a considerably smaller event taking place as a record number of Minnesotans are being deported.

This year, immigrants' advocates didn't ask businesses to close or encourage workers to walk off their jobs. A climate of fear has overtaken the immigrant community, so many people are afraid to be seen in a public demonstration, Torres said."
