Hot on the heels of successful stops in Indianapolis, Louisville, New Haven, Santa Fe and Toronto, award-winning writer/actor John Leguizamo brings his brand new show John Leguizamo LIVE! to Jacksonville. Shows are at 8:00 PM on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21 at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts.

John Leguizamo thrills audiences as he gets up close and personal in his new, uncensored, uninhibited tour-de-force. John Leguizamo LIVE! drew cheering crowds as it took to the road this past July, with stops at intimate venues across the U.S. Of his latest evolving one-man show, Leguizamo exclaims, "Yo, wat up my peoples? Wat’s crackin? Me that’s what. I'm coming to town with the latest installment of leguizamomania! This one is for the ages don't miss it -- the first time civilian eyes will be viewing my new and latest and greatest show. Help me help you get some anti-recession and anti-depression hilarity.”

In Leguizamo’s trademark live performance style, this piece explodes with energy taking audiences on a non-stop fever-pitch adventure, heating up the stage with vivid accounts of where he’s been and the colorful characters who’ve shaped different facets of his life. From his adolescent memories in Queens, New York, to the early days of his acting career and beyond -- with stories of the outrageous 80’s avant-garde theater scene and anecdotes from major movie sets and roles opposite some of Hollywood’s biggest film stars, John Leguizamo LIVE! is in turns uproarious and heartfelt, laying it bare for those along for the ride.

Multi-faceted performer and Emmy Award winner John Leguizamo's notable career defies categorization. Possessing boundless energy and creativity, Leguizamo's work spans the genres of film, theatre, television, literature and beyond. As writer and performer, Leguizamo created the Off-Broadway sensation Mambo Mouth, in which he portrayed seven different characters (Obie, Outer Critics Circle, Vanguardia Awards).

His second one-man show Spic-O-Rama enjoyed extended sold-out runs in Chicago and New York (Dramatists' Guild Hull-Warriner Award for Best American Play, Lucille Lortel Outstanding Achievement Award for Best Broadway Performance, Drama Desk Award for Best Solo Performance). His third solo show Freak completed a successful run on Broadway in 1998. A special presentation of Freak, directed by Spike Lee, aired on HBO (Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance in a Variety or Music Program and nomination for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special). In Fall 2001 Leguizamo returned to Broadway with Sexaholix...a Love Story, directed by Peter Askin (Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for "Outstanding Solo Performance" and Tony Award nomination for Best Special Theatrical Performance). Sexaholix aired as an HBO Special in Spring 2002 and toured widely. Other stage credits: A Midsummer Night's Dream and La Puta Vida at the New York Shakespeare Festival and Parting Gestures at INTAR. Presently, Leguizamo delights younger fans as the voice of Syd in Ice Age 1, 2 and 3. He has been seen in countless films including Love in the Time of Cholera opposite Javier Bardem and Benjamin Bratt, The Happening opposite Mark Wahlberg, Righteous Kill opposite Robert Deniro and Al Pacino, The Babysitters opposite Cynthia Nixon and The Take opposite Rosie Perez as well as Miracle at St. Anna, Land of the Dead, The Groomsmen, Lies & Alibis, Assault on Precinct 13, Sueno, Spin, Moulin Rouge, Summer of Sam, King of the Jungle, Spawn, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Dr. Doolittle, Carlito's Way and Casualties of War.

John Leguizamo LIVE! plays Friday, November 20 & Saturday, November 21 at 8:00 PM. The Times Union Center for the Performing Arts, Terry Theatre, is located at 300 West Water Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202.

"Jacksonville’s Puerto Rican Parade has become such a success, its popularity is creating some unexpected challenges for organizers. The third annual event is slated for Sept. 22 and based on last year’s attendance, the City has determined the only venue that can handle the projected level of participation is Metropolitan Park, the site of other major annual gatherings including the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and the World of Nations celebration.

According to Nilda Alejandro, president of the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations, Inc., the organization was formed to promote Jacksonville to the Hispanic community as a place to live, work and own a business. She said many relationships have been formed and this year’s parade and festival will bring as many as 1,000 Hispanic dignitaries and business leaders to Jacksonville."

"Maybe the roll started with Like Water for Chocolate. Or maybe it continued with The Motorcycle Diaries, and Maria, Full of Grace, or last year's hit film, Pan's Labyrinth.

In any case, Spanish-language and Spanish-produced films are captivating more audiences and imaginations, said Susan Duss, director of Viva Cinema, the Spanish film segment of the Jacksonville Film Festival.

Festival organizers want more Jacksonville folks to be in that audience, she said."

"The Jacksonville Film Festival returns May 17-20, 2007, and once again one of the most anticipated programs is Viva Cinema, a sidebar of Spanish language film.

This year’s Viva Cinema programming includes four feature films as well as an afternoon shorts program.

Among the highlights is featured guest Jesse Charbonier Rodriquez, co-founder of Latin Cinema Showcase and executive producer of the film Entremedio, one of Viva Cinema’s films. After the 1:30 screening of Entremedio on Saturday, May 19 at Theater Jacksonville, Rodriguez and the director, Andres Ramirez will be on hand for Q & A with the audience.

Also, the Viva Cinema Wine Tasting is May 19 at 4:00 at The Grotto in San Marco.

This year’s films include:

Azul Oscuro Casi Negro (Dark Blue Almost Black). Director: Daniel Sanchez Arevalo (Spain). Jorge dreamed of being a business man, but his father’s debilitating stroke and a brother’s prison sentence made him a caretaker and part time janitor instead. When his childhood crush returns from a stint studying abroad, Jorge yearns for something better.

Entremedio (A Place Within). Director: Andres Ramirez (Puerto Rico). Noah, an investigative reporter for his town’s newspaper, finds himself in love with Yin, a girl he has known for many years. Noah arranges a dinner to declare his love to her, but fails to tell her. When he attempts to contact Yin the next day, he discovers she is missing and her very existence in doubt.

Sin Ti (Without You). Director: Raimon Masllorens (Spain). A mother of two, Lucia, accepts life as it comes. Her only ambition, to conserve what she already has. One day an absurd accident leaves her blind. Destiny forces her to do what she had never before dared to face.

Super Amigos. Director: Arturo Perez Torres (Mexico). Mexico City is not Gotham City, but if you were to run into any of the five masked activists who protect this metropolis, you’d wonder if you were not living inside a comic book.

For more information on Viva Cinema or the Jacksonville Film Festival, please go to http://www.jacksonvillefilmfestival.com."
