Sedano’s Supermarkets, the number one Hispanic retailer in the United States, announced today that it will acquire three Albertsons supermarket locations in Central Florida. This acquisition marks Sedano’s Supermarkets’ first expansion beyond its South Florida headquarters and brings the total number of stores to 33 in Florida.

The Orlando area store locations are: 1100 N. John Young Parkway, Kissimmee, FL 34741; 12981 S. Orange Blossom Trail, Orlando, FL 32837; and 5660 Curry Ford Road, Orlando, FL 32822.

“We’re very excited about expanding into Orlando,” said Javier Herrán, director of marketing for Sedano’s Supermarkets. “The expansion into Central Florida helps us meet customer demand, while allowing us to quickly establish a presence and significant footprint in the Orlando market, as we pursue opportunities for continued strategic and conservative growth,” he said.

Sedano’s, with the assistance of The Food Partners, a national investment-banking firm providing merger, acquisition and divestiture services to the supermarket industry, strategically identified the Albertsons locations to maximize its entry into this new market. The store locations offer Sedano’s Supermarkets a great opportunity to respond to the needs of Orlando’s burgeoning Hispanic community as well as the general Orlando population. The stores, which vary in size from 58,000 square feet to 65,000, will feature Sedano’s staple Latin products as well as mainstream everyday items.

“Our ability to offer specialized goods, low prices and cater to our Hispanic culture have been paramount to our success throughout the years,” said Herrán. “We have a true understanding of the Sedano’s customer and continuously seek to meet their needs with tailored product selections that reflect the surrounding neighborhood’s diverse make up and taste.”

Sedano’s will officially take control of the three locations in the first quarter 2010. The stores will boast Sedano’s Supermarkets’ popular prepared foods section, custom-cut meat department and the iconic café serving espresso and pastelitos.

About Sedano’s Supermarkets

Founded in Hialeah, Florida in 1962 by the Herrán and Guerra families, Sedano’s Supermarkets has grown to become the number one Hispanic retailer in the United States. Sedano’s Supermarkets caters to Florida’s booming Hispanic community with more than 2,600 employees and 30 locations in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach counties. As the largest, independently owned, Hispanic supermarket chain, Sedano’s Supermarkets is recognized for its excellent customer service, ethnic product offering and competitive prices.

MASCOTTE — Voters in this south Lake County city this week reversed a historical decision made two years ago when they elected Central Florida’s first Latino mayor. – The tables turned for Feliciano “Felix” Ramirez and Jeffrey Krull, whom Ramirez easily defeated in his landmark 2007 election with 68 percent of the vote. This time, Krull squeezed by with 12 more votes to defeat Ramirez, who had strong ties with Mascotte’s increasing Latino population.

Editorial Ultramar, the Miami-based publishing division of the non-profit Hispanic Events, Inc., will launch "La Ciudad de la Unidad Posible, Seleccion Poetica de Miami" ("The City of Possible Unity, A Collection of Miami Poetry"), a book featuring more than 100 Spanish-language poems by 32 Hispanic writers. The editor and publisher, Dr. Aida Levitan, will present the book during the Miami Book Fair International at 4 p.m. on November 8th, Room 2106, Miami Dade College, 300 NE Second Avenue, Miami. Dr. Carlos Rojas -- winner of Spain's Premio Planeta, Premio Nadal, and the National Literary Award -- will speak at the event since he is the author of the book's preface. Each poet present will read one poem from the book. "We are very pleased with the quality of this publication," said Aida Levitan. "Some of South Florida's most experienced literary critics and professors chose the best poets and poems for 'La Ciudad de la Unidad Posible', and the result is inspiring as well as illustrative of the great poetry being produced in this area." The title of the book, suggested by literary critic Luis de la Paz, was inspired by a verse written in Miami by Juan Ramon Jimenez, the Spanish poet who won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Dr. Levitan, President of Hispanic Events, Inc., and Victoria London, Honorary Consul of Romania, underwrote the printing of the book. Also contributing to the publication were: The Levitan Group, Inc. and the Aetna Foundation. The book will sell at the launch event, for $15 each, or by contacting levitanbiz@gmail.com. PR Newswire has donated the news release distribution. The poets in "La Ciudad de la Unidad Posible" include both well-known and new poets. They are: Armando Alvarez Bravo, Silvio Ambrogi Roman, Rubi Arana, Manuel Castro Perez, Francisco J. Corces, Julie de Grandy, Rodrigo de la Luz, Odaliz de Leon, Amelia del Castillo, Raul Dopico, Julio Estorino, Jose Emilio Fernandez, Orlando Ignacio Fernandez, Ramon Fernandez-Larrea, Alejandra Ferrazza, Vicente Forte Sillie, Denis Fortun, Marlene Fuentes Lopez, Teresita Herrera Muina, Rolando Jorge, Magda Kraw, Felix Lizarraga, America Mara Manzano, Rodolfo Martinez Sotomayor, Angel Antonio Moreno, Ernesto Ravelo Garcia, Orlando Rossardi, Janisset Rivero, Mariblanca Quinones de la Osa, Jose Soroa, Elena Tamargo and Manuel Vazquez Portal. Editorial Ultramar has the mission of publishing and promoting the work of Hispanic poets in the United States. Its first publication, in 2008, was "Poesia Viva" by Rodrigo de la Luz, on sale at www.artesmiami.org. Editorial Ultramar is part of the 501(c)3 organization Hispanic Events, Inc., which is dedicated to providing funding and marketing services to Hispanic artists and cultural organizations.
