Press Release:

President & CEO of the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Javier Palomarez, today issued the following statement after the release of the December jobs report:

Today’s jobs report shows that the U.S. job market added 200,000 jobs in December, bringing the total number of private sector jobs created in 2011 to 1.9 million. Over the last month, unemployment among Hispanics dropped 0.4 percentage points to 11% (down from 11.4% in October and November) and the figure has decreased from 12.9% unemployment in December 2010. Over the course of 2011, 783,000 more Hispanics were employed according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ most recent Household Data Survey.

While these numbers are encouraging, the task of restoring healthy employment levels among Hispanics, as well as all Americans, remains at the forefront of our concern.

With every monthly jobs report that is released, the need for Congress and the Administration to act becomes more and more clear. They must move quickly to empower entrepreneurs through creating a business-friendly environment and boosting access to necessary resources for small business owners.
