Renowned Neurologist Dr. Joseph Safdieh Joins CATALINA Magazine as Newest Columnist – the Headcetera column covers matters of the healthy mind

New York neurologist Dr. Joseph Safdieh has joined CATALINA magazine as the publication’s newest columnist. Dr. Safdieh, a neurologist on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, is writing the “Headcetera” column for CATALINA magazine and CATALINAmagazine.com, helping readers understand matters of the mind — everything from migraine headaches to motion sickness.

“The brain is the most interesting organ, and treating diseases of the brain is my passion. It is my goal in Headcetera to provide regular updates to readers about new developments as well as useful tips to optimize brain health,” says Safdieh.

The column is the brainchild of CATALINA publisher Cathy Areu, who, as a migraine sufferer, has been a patient of Dr. Safdieh for over 5 years. “I trust Dr. Safdieh completely, and I want others to benefit from his wisdom like I do. He is one of the best doctors in the country, and, with Headcetera, now millions of readers have access to his expertise,” Areu says.

In a recent column, Safdieh explained Cathy’s condition: migraine headaches, a very common condition affecting 6% of men and 18% of women in any given year. Areu believes his migraine column and research are important because studies have actually shown that 50% of patients with migraine are never actually diagnosed by their doctor. And, because migraines have specific treatments that are different from other types of headaches, diagnosis and awareness is key.

Other column topics include increasing brain function with a Mediterranean “diet,” identifying a true sinus headache, and avoiding motion sickness at the movie theater.

Readers are also invited to submit questions to Dr. Safdieh at safdieh@catalinamagazine.com. As part of a seasonal promotion, to celebrate the new column, readers whose questions are chosen will receive a special gift, a Yak Pak.

Dr. Safdieh is available for interviews, in Spanish and English.
