NHMC Reacts to FCC Resuming Countdown to Decision on AT&T Takeover
Today, the Federal Communications Commission restarted the 180-day, internal “shot clock” on its review of AT&T’s proposed acquisition of T-Mobile. The FCC stopped the clock after it had been overwhelmed with new evidence submitted by AT&T in a final effort to explain how the transaction would serve the public interest.
“The more AT&T attempts to explain the imaginary benefits of this transaction, the faster it falls apart. This takeover attempt has been exposed in the public forum for what it is: bad for competition, bad for jobs, bad for prices, and great for AT&T. We are pleased that the FCC has restarted the internal clock on its review of this transaction. AT&T has had more than enough chances to substantiate its claims, and it has failed time and time again. I would hope that the recent leaks that have sprung in AT&T’s story have caused supporters to consider abandoning this sinking ship,” states Alex Nogales, President and CEO of the National Hispanic Media Coalition.
