SMOD is an act that fuses rap, folk and blues with traditional Malian styles; the group sings in French, and are fronted by the son of world music stars Amadou & Mariam. SMOD’s debut album ‘Ça Chante’ was produced by global icon Manu Chao.  SMOD originally connected with Manu Chao through their frontman Sam, who is the son of world music stars Amadou & Mariam. Back in 2005, Manu Chao had produced Amadou & Miriam’s breakthrough album, ‘Dimanche a Bamako,’ catapulting the group into international icons.
Ça Chante’ is a politically-conscious album that addresses inequalities across African history via impassioned French lyrics. French rap sensation Keny Arkana is featured on the track, “J’ai Pas Peur Du Micro.” SMOD embodies the emergence of a new scene in Africa, the embracing of new urban sounds while incorporation the importance of heritage. While the group has released three albums in Europe over the past 10 years, this new release is their North American debut.
“SMOD carries Manu Chao’s signature psychedelic bounce…The album brings Bagayoko’s gorgeous West African-style guitar work (unsurprising, given dad’s masterful chops) and a sweet French flow.” ROLLING STONE (3 1/2 STARS)

SMOD has one of the most intriguing sounds I’ve heard in a long time.“ - MTV IGGY
