As a significant Cinco de Mayo celebration, the City of Los Angeles and Council member Jose Huizar make culture and community paramount during this festive month by honoring the organization Union de Poblanos en el Exterior en Los Angeles (Los Angeles Union of Puebla Expatriates-UPEXT) with a proclamation in recognition of their efforts to foster cultural appreciation for the Mexican community abroad.
Media is invited to cover this noteworthy ceremony and acknowledgement that will take place on May 5, 6:30 p.m., at Olvera Street, the cultural hub of Downtown Los Angeles.
The following representatives & dignitaries will be present Alfredo Gomez, President of Union de Poblanos En El Exterior , Pedro Ramos, founder of the Uniόn de Poblanos En El Exterior, Jose Duarte, President of Comité Civico Patriotico, Mario Cardenas, President of Consejo de Federaciones Mexicanas en Norte America (COFEM), Director Monumento Histórico de Los Angeles (Placita Olvera), Councilman Jose Huizar, Rafael Von Raesfeld Porras in representation of the Mexican State of Puebla, David Figueroa, Mexican General Cónsul of Los Ángeles.

The City of Los Angeles recognizes the outstanding dedication and service provided by the Unions of Poblanos En El Exterior for their commitment to improving community advancement. The origination of Cinco de Mayo commemorates the victory of the Mexican army over the French army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862.
Union de Poblanos en el Exterior (UPEXT) is a Los Angeles based organization dedicated to the promotion and advancement of the people and culture of Puebla, Mexico. With events such as the Feria de los Moles (Mole Fair), UPEXT fosters appreciation for the unique contributions of Puebla abroad, and preserves the cultural richness provided by this region of Mexico to the rest of the world.
