Traveling Art Exhibit Coming to San Diego:

The Art & Poetry of Antonio Guerrero

San Diego, CA – May 2011 – The Centro Cultural de la Raza, The National Committee to Free the Cuban Five, and the San Diego Friends of Cuba, invite you to join us for the opening reception of the traveling exhibit of the Art and Poetry of Antonio Guerrero.

Special Guest Speakers: Gloria la Riva, Coordinator of the National Committee to Free the Cuban

Five and Marjorie Cohn, immediate past President of the National Lawyers Guild, plus: DJ Ana

Brown, live music tribute to Che Guevarra with Tema Quinonez, spoken word artist, food and

drinks all for a $5-$10 donations, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Antonio Guerrero is one of the Cuban Five. The Cuban Five are political prisoners serving two life sentences and 98 years collectively after being railroaded by the U.S. government in it’s continued hostility toward Cuba and those that defend it. Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and René Gonzalez are five Cuban men that were arrested by the FBI on September 12, 1998. They were charged with conspiracy to commit espionage on the U.S. government and were convicted on June 8, 2001.

The Cuban Five never committed espionage nor did they conspire to do so. Their actions were not directed against the U.S. government. Instead their mission was to monitor Cuban-exile terrorist organizations in Miami, which have carried out attacks on Cuba for decades that have killed 3,478 Cubans. Join us on this special night to learn more about the Cuban Five and the movement to free them all. Our special guest speakers will be Gloria la Riva and Marjorie Cohn. We will also have live music and poetry performed by local artist. There will also be great food, music and drinks.

All of the proceeds will go to the National Committee to the Free the Five and the Centro Cultural de la Raza.

“I believe that there is no reason to keep the Cuban Five imprisoned, there were doubts in the U.S. courts and also among human rights organizations in the world. Now, they have been in prison 12 years and I hope that in the near future they will be released to return home” (former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter)

The art exhibit will be on display from May 3 – May 28, 2011 at the Centro Cultural de la Raza.

Regular gallery hours are Tuesday – Sunday 12pm – 4:00pm: www.centroculturaldelaraza.org
