Video: After A Wrongful Detainment, 4 year old Emily Ruiz Is Reunited With Her Family

New York – Emily Samantha Ruiz, a 4-year-old United States citizen who was returned to Guatemala by U.S. immigration authorities a little over two weeks ago, has been reunited with her family today after weeks of waiting and uncertainty.

The child was brought from Guatemala to New York by the family’s attorney, David Sperling, and members of his staff.  In an emotional encounter, Emily’s parents and her little brother welcomed the girl.

Below is a statement from Leonel Ruiz, Emily’s father:

“Emily is back with us now.  We have no words to express the joy it brings us to see, hold and kiss our daughter again.

“We are very happy because we were away from her for so long, without being able to see her or hold her.  We thank all the people who have been working together to make our wish to be with her come true.

“My main concern at all times has been Emily’s well-being and my biggest wish is that my family remains together.  Today, with Emily’s arrival, our family is once again complete and united, and that’s what is most important.”

Emily’s mother added that she feels “immense joy by having her in my arms after so much anguish. I was so worried knowing that she was far away from me and not knowing when I would see her again.  I give many thanks, most importantly to God, and to all the people who have supported us in order to make this unforgettable moment happen,” the young mother concluded.

Emily Samantha Ruiz, ciudadana estadounidense de cuatro años de edad, retornada a Guatemala por autoridades migratorias de Estados Unidos hace poco más de dos semanas, se reunió hoy con su familia tras semanas de espera e incertidumbre.

La menor fue traída desde Guatemala a Nueva York por el abogado de la familia, David Sperling y miembros de su personal.  En un emotivo encuentro, los padres de Emily y su hermanito le dieron la bienvenida a la niña.  A continuación, una declaración de Leonel Ruiz, padre de Emily:

“Emily ya está con nosotros.  No tenemos palabras para expresar la alegría que nos produce volver a ver,  abrazar y besar a nuestra hija.  Sentimos una gran felicidad porque fueron tantos días lejos de ella. Sin poderla ver y poder abrazarla.

Agradecemos a todas las personas que han estado trabajando juntas para poder hacer realidad nuestro sueño de poder estar con ella.

Mi principal preocupación en todo momento ha sido el bienestar de Emily y mi mayor deseo es que mi familia permanezca unida.  Hoy, con la llegada de Emily, nuestra familia vuelve a estar completa y unida y eso es lo más importante”.

Por su parte, la madre de Emily agregó que siente “una felicidad inmensa de volverla a tener entre mis brazos después de tanta angustia porque me sentía muy preocupada de saber que estaba lejos de mí y sin saber cuándo la iba a volver a ver”.

“Le doy muchas gracias, primeramente a Dios, y a todas las personas que nos han apoyado para poder hacer realidad este momento tan inolvidable”, concluyó la joven madre.
